    In this video I go over the REAL cost to build a supercharger. When compared to a complete kit this is the way. I saved almost $2,000 building it over time!!

    This is essentially the SBC version of the Rings/Bearings/Cam Upgrade Dingle Ball Hone Junkyard LS with a Torqstorm Centrifugal Blower. Nice job.

    FYI....last year (Nov 2023) Speedmaster had a "Cyber Monday" sale (Monday after Black Friday) and I got the complete 6-71 kit polished with intake, dual carb adapter, upper & lower pulley, idler pulley and bracket, dual V-drive pulley, snout, 3" belt, aluminum blower (red) pop-off bolts, gasket for blower and dual carb plate and all mounting hardware....are you ready....40% off for $2870.00. This is not for an immediate build because it took some time to get it (late Jan) at this discount but for a savings of $2000 WHAT THE HELL!!!! I may buy another this year for a future project.

    1700 dollars? You couldve gotten 2 650cfm edelbrock avs2 carburetors from summit for less than 800 bucks. More top end power, and reliability, for half the money.

      If only. This setup would need two 750cfm Draw Thru carbs. Those are over $1200 Each. Plus after using the super sniper setup, I'm glad I went efi. So much more tunability and control.

      @diveingarage dont get me wrong, the efis can run great. WHEN they work that is. But with sensors and wiring, comes problems. Ive heard nothing but complaints from others who converted to efi. I dont see how an engine under 400 cubes would need more than 1300 cfm, especially for the street. Especially since these kinds of carbs can pull closer to 1500. Not to mention they can be jetted up if need be. But if flow is that big a concern, just get 800s instead, a pair would still be under a thousand bucks. Just my 2 cents.

      @@diveingarageas a follow up, im wondering where youre getting the idea that the proper carb is 1200 dollars. A BLOW through carb would run roughly that. But im sure you know that all normal carburetors are draw through.. an engine is just an air pump. So is a blower. And i double checked some numbers. Assuming your redline is below 6500 rpm, you certainly dont need more than a pair of upjetted 650s to run on the street.

      Pair of 750s gives me some overhead. When I did the math a while back I think it was like 1380cfm? Super Sniper setup can flow 1600cfm, so to me even better.
      Really the wiring setup for this with the Hyperspark was a breeze. It's a pre made harness so, plug and play. Even the O2 part (which I was nervous about) ended up being realy easy.
      I think people have trouble with wiring when they DONT use the hyperspark. I could see how that'd be difficult. But I went with it for that reason, to keep it as straightforward as possible. Plus then you get spark control right from the software. Makes tuning it almost no different than tuning an LS.

      As for the carbs I was looking at a Holley 750 Q series, setup for a blower, two of course. They run $1,200 each.

    Id rather have more cid. Too much stress on old iron.

      I mean hey I'd rather have a big block too haha truck came with a sbc, working with that

    • @Davidhillborn
      @Davidhillborn 2 дня назад

      @diveingarage humor me, idk much abt this stuff. Do you think a supercharged small block would be more cost-effective in the long run than a NA big block pushing the same power numbers in a street truck? Also, what kind of lifespan/mileage might you get from a blown sbc vs NA bbc?

    • @diveingarage
      @diveingarage  2 дня назад

      A good power level BBC budget build will probably edge out this blower SBC. As for longevity, I'd say N/A big block would win too. As they always say, there's no replacement for displacement! Ha. The N/A setup will be easier on parts and you can run tighter ring gaps to seal up combustion and limit blowby. The problem with this power level boosted or not is that the components behind it all need to be rated higher. So you're basically building a 1000hp rig.

    That supercharger is soo under drived its more of a restriction than a power adder

    • @diveingarage
      @diveingarage  2 месяца назад

      20% underdriven right now, making 5psi as planned! Once I get the tune dialed in, I'm definitely swapping for a smaller top pulley!!

    There is nothing wrong with a good deal but I have to strongly disagree with " it's just aluminum " there's many different grades, not all aluminum is the same. I'd like to say it's just a pully. I've done the budget build several times and learned the hard way not all budget parts are the same. Youre going to need some extra cooling. without charge air cooling at some point you're going to be trading timing for boost. I would suggest meth injection for a little cooling and help retaining timing. If or when you go to put boost on that SS you'll be looking at around 9k.

      most brands get their stuff from the same place which i've found, no matter what they say theyre all sourced from the same places.

      How does methanol injection work? I've heard of guys just spraying windshield washer fluid right into the intake (blinker fluid if you've got the bank for it). Do you just run a switch on the throttle to detect WOT and turn on a pump?

    • @diveingarage
      @diveingarage  5 месяцев назад

      You're right on a lot of points there. We'll if it blows up on me I'll be sure to do a video on it!
      Down the line I want to do a 2" intercooler. Then either some nos or meth to stabilize the temps and timing. Starting basic for now! Will amp it up as the build requires.

      @@miketriesmotorsports6080 essentially yes, ideally you'd use boost reference to activate the spray if using methonal.
