Okay this was such a missed opportunity to ask her questions about her current job and experiences, and her life in general, to an extent. She doesn't do many interviews so if she would've been willing to give more answers about her retirement and her challenges during that time, it would've been wonderful. She seems to be such a humble person and an inspiration, really.
She is. 👍 But Olympics is a sport channel (the channel of the greatest sport event in the world to be precise), so it makes sense they only asked questions about the sport - especially so close to the opening of the Games. :)
@@mercuryfever392 @amm I've watched that and read all her interviews. I was hoping she'd talk about the Russian junior team she's coaching, her experiences there and her work-life balance. All this of course, if she wants to talk about it. But this is what I meant.
Aliya Mustafina has always been as classy, gracious and inspiring as an athlete can be and always pushed herself as far as possible resulting in incredibly beautiful precise performances. She also knew what it was to have fun when younger. All of this will make her a great coach for young Russians. I am happy for her students.
My favorite thing about the past olympics has been mustafina. I was really looking forward to seeing her perform in Tokyo but so long as she is happy, that is what matters.
Aliya saying gymnasts don't have a least favourite event really is a testament to how much of an all-arounder she is. She is a joy for the eye in every single event

Simone Biles performs more difficult skills but I'll always prefer to watch an Aliya Mustafina routine. Aliya's elegance is unsurpassed, as far as I'm concerned.

I’m not a gymnastics expert but aliya was my favorite gymnast. I loved her artistry and lines which combined with the technical part. Looking at a lot of gymnasts nowadays the artistic part is completely gone. She was really charismatic on/off apparatus and always happy for silver and bronze as well. Great athlete. So sad she is no longer competing.
I am so glad that the Olympic channel did this, Aliya Mustafina is my absolute queen, her determination and artistry inspire me but hearing her talk on a personal level, made me feel comradeship with her, I am so grateful.

There was even a facebook page called 'si la gimnasia artística fuera fácil, se llamaría fútbol' (if artistic gymnastics were easy It would've been called football/soccer) Every sport is different and shouldn't be compared.
Aliya was always very respectful and gracious towards other gymnasts, even when her team members would say critical things of other countries gymnasts - she never contributed to any of talk like that. She also wrongly was labeled a diva by NBC. They liked to hilight how much "attitude" she gave her coaches, when actually in gymnastics culture young girls have been abused, terrified to speak up, trained to think any assertiveness was downright disrespectful - Aliya looking bet coaches in the eye and not being afraid to speak her mind should be celebrated, not condemned.

After Svetlana Khorkina, I found Aliya Mustafina to be the queen of Russian Artistic Gymnastics. Both have such a different personalities, but still resemble Diva attitudes in their own way. Will definitely miss her in Tokyo Olympics.
I find it funny how supposedly we've defined the "GOAT" yet Aliya just said that the materials and design of the apparatus' have developed to become easier to use and more complex elements are able to be performed now that it's changed. Which begs the question, why have we chosen a "GOAT" when back then in the 70s and 80s, the apparatus was incomparable to todays? The gymnasts back then were performing on floors without springs, and smaller vault tables. Many gymnasts back then didn't even use grips like they do now, so is Simone really good or is she aided by modern technology?
I think Simone is the best of her time, and people think of her as the best of all time, because the popularity of gymnastics pretty much took off during the early 2000s. I'm a huge fan of gymnastics from the 1976-1996 period and my preferences for gymnastics reflect that but if you're a certain age/ only just started getting into gymnastics then yes, Simone is GOAT. Especially considering other people have the same tech she does and aren't doing what she's doing.
Simone is the goat, because even the gymnasts in her era don't perform the skills she does. Jade barely came close to her difficulty on floor, but she lacks in vault, bars and beam. Suni had the most difficult bars in the world, but her scores on vault, floor and beam are often low. Simone even had the highest All around score of Tokyo Olympics. There are very few modern day gymnasts who are medalists in every single event at world championships, but no one has won as many titles as Simone. Except in bars, she's at least a 2 time world champion in every single event.
