I’ve been watch your videos for a while now and it stands out a mile how you’ve developed and grown as a biker, a presenter and as a person. You’re videos are always true to life and honest, along with being entertaining. Keep them coming!
Speaking from experience, you need to be flexible and realistic with your routes and also yourself. Sometimes you can crunch out the miles, sometimes it’s hard work and you need to adapt accordingly. Don’t ride tired or fatigued or push yourself when you should call it a day, especially when riding alone.
Keep up the great work and happy riding.

If you don’t mind me saying, you have balls of steel. I’ve been in your situation many times in Scotland. You will learn not to do too many miles in a day five to six hours at the most and find a spot and spend two nights at least once on the trip. It will all make you stronger even though you will feel weaker ( if that makes sense). Well done and keep on trucking. 🙏

Saffy, Iv'e been touring for decades, and I've failed and experienced crap happening probably more ways than I care to remember!! On that basis, my recommendations for making your trips "better" would be 1. Get a BIKE dedicated SatNav (you have a great mount for it on the CB) as it's waterproof (as is the bike powered wiring), heat proof, sun proof (as in, will work well, with bike gloves on in ALL weathers and won't die on you mid-ride (and bright sunlight it'll still be visible, and will also work with bike gloves on, in the rain). I like to have a map in front of me, and I like to design the route before I go away, so I'm not using it to get me places/I don't follow "it's" routing, (though I do that occasional too, mostly I'm following my own pre-determined, planned route). 2. I only use soft luggage and it all mostly leaks eventually, so I put everything inside my bags inside their own waterproof bags to ensure nothing gets wet! 3. I ALWAYS take an extra pair of gloves as you never know when you might end up with wet gloves (which is disgusting). I've had waterproof gloves fail on me, and there is nothing like having a spare, dry pair to switch to!! (also try not to use heated grips in the rain as it can make the waterproof membrane work in the "opposite" direction, and you end up with wet gloves even though they haven't failed). I always have at least 2 pairs on a trip (in winter, some winter and some "mid-season" both waterproof, in summer, summer vented with no membrane AND some summer unlined but waterpoof gloves). 3. Always put the cuff of your gloves INSIDE the cuff of your jacket as otherwise, water runs down your arm and into your gloves, which will eventually get waterlogged (and if they are waterproof, there is nowhere for the water to go!) Ideally, you have an "inner" cuff on your jacket and the gloves go over that, and under the outer cuff. If no inner cuff, the same still applies, though. 4. I never take my lid off when it's raining, unless I'm under cover, so as not to get a wet head (on top of everything else (I'm also a glasses wearer and this helps with them not getting wet/steamed up, too (I wear a Schuberth flip to help with this too - recommended!!))). Sometimes I won't take my wet gloves off either, in case I can't get them back on! ;) Hope this helps and you can benefit from my failures/bad experiences! ;) :)

for real decent biking roads stay away from the Nc fad. Straight up the middle is miles better, No motorhome mayhem, No city slickers stopping at every loch or drop of water for an instagram pic and generally the hotels are priced at face value not overpriced trash because someone saw a few Nc500 signs. Most locals I know up there hate it. I have friends in tongue who despise the way it’s turned out.

    Bigger bikes just make sense.
I started out (on the road), on a CG125, then an SV650S, then a ST1300A2, and now a K1600 GLT E. I mean, the CG struggles to do 70mph. The K16 will do that in 2nd gear, and has heated seats from the factory.
Warm & wet is best. I mean, think about it, when was the last time anyone was miserable in a hot tub? Heated seats/gripts/clothing is an absolute game changer! (which it looks from the wiring that you were wearing?)
Also, I spy your Insta One X mount on the bars, but I guess you didn't want to test it's level of waterproofing.
Stopping when you can, before something bad happens, is the best idea. Live to ride another day, even if it doesn't go to plan.

I’ve never ridden long distances or motorbike camped before I attempted the same as you , my first day was the lake district 270 miles with the view if I camp at Keswick it gives me chance to buy anything I find i need after my first night camping , second night was fort William including glen etive , third night poolewe joining the nc500 after loch carron , found that was as far as I could ride cause each day cause my Africa twin was killing my bum , I seemed to spend more time having coffee breaks cause I just had to stop

😅 it does be like that sometimes! If I go longer thank 5 days, I make sure to schedule in a rest day every 3-4 days

The editing of these videos is increasingly more slick with all the good techniques layering on top of each other. Et voila. 🙂

Just back from Ullapool and Lochcarron.
The Johnny cash duo live in the Caledonian hotel Ullapool, then the following night at the Lochcarron hotel. Rode down with Calum, from the band on his Harley. (Local person, and Knowledge)
I took the Royal Enfield 350 Meteor. From Aberdeenshire.
Live music in Ullapool most nights

brilliant drone shots Saffy, "Tractor Tom", is that the new name for the new bike? , you're right cameras don't really show how beautiful the landscapes are, always good to see you're still able to smile even it's all going wrong.

Quite a reading of the beginning poem Saffy
Listening to your body is a good thing to do. Don't end up with pneumonia as it is not fun.
Hope you feel better than a waterlogged cat in the morning.

When are you going to stick some knobblies on and go green laning? You could do some of the A.C.T (Adventure Country Tracks).

Discretion is the better part of valour. Better to call it a day and save you and your bike. Do you carry a brew kit? Even just some coffee sachets will make a morale boosting brew. Keepbon keeping on and keep it shiny side up ❤.

Great scenery. Thanks for taking us along. How do you find the Honda. Well balanced and frugal on fuel, comfortable for the rides?

Don’t be so hard on yourself! It’s an adventure, doesn’t really matter how far you get in a day. Also, in Scotland always put your sleeping bag in a dry bag!!!!

Nice Rachel Field Poem, did you stay on an island ? I'm hoping to stay on Skye when I go next year. Great Drone footage, you forget the easy parts of an adventure but remember the tough bits and It's not the bigger bike that makes the ride easier, it's the experienced and confident rider. We'll done ❤

As youre in Scotland then i cant recommend waterproof bike gear from Scottish company Lomo enough. So cheap youd think they werw lidl clearance items, 100% waterproof and really well made. The stickers from the adventure bike festival and is a great memory for you, keep it where it is 👍🏻

I did the nc500 the same way you are doing it as I decided the west coast is the best bit not to be missed but if I got to Ullapool and had similar weather and wanted to give up I would try and do the extra day to tongue/ Betty hill then head back Inverness as the roads through the centre of the highlands give better views than the east coast , I chose to stay at bay view campsite than Sango sands as it was more sheltered although the site was very basic indeed

It's never any fun when you're soaked through, and the rain keeps coming down. Wow, that's almost a blues song. Right! Where's my keyboard, I need to put some chords to my lyrics.
