In 1976, LeDoux won the world bareback riding championship at the National Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City. Winning the championship gave LeDoux more credibility with music audiences, as he now had proof that the cowboy songs he wrote were authentic.
Chris had a short, but very full and fascinating life. He passed away at age 57, in 2005. He was a fan favorite in the rodeo circuit, and a well decorated rider. He wrote and produced his first 22 albums, turning down many offers from recording companies. His big break came when Garth Brooks mentioned his name in Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old) , on his second album. Chris then signed with a record label. He had one top 10 song, a duet with Garth Brooks called Whatchu Gonna Do With That Cowboy. Me and my best friend sang it, for his wife, at their wedding reception. Chris retired early from rodeo riding, but left a huge mark on the sport. After he passed away of cancer, Garth came out of retirement, just to write and sing a tribute to Chris, called Good Ride Cowboy. He then went back into retirement until his 3 girls got through high school.
This was my favourite Chris LeDoux song. I was working in Music Retail as a manager when Country exploded. When I heard his duet with Garth Brooks who was big at the time, my store was shipped his entire catalog and I blown away! I had no idea how awesome he was!
Daily Bread, Millionaire, Gravitational Pull, Somewhere Between the Rainbows and the Rain...LeDoux's body of work has some of the best love songs ever recorded
My favorite song of his is "Western Skies" it really speaks to who he is. He might have had a great music career, but he stayed true to being a Wyoming cowboy. So sad when he passed way too young. His son is carrying on his music.
I was so lucky to meet Chris at a rodeo where his son was riding in 2002 while I was attending tech school in Wyoming! He was so nice and we talked for several minutes.
I bought my first Chris Ledoux cassette tape from the back of his pick up truck at the Prescott AZ Rodeo back in 79 I think I was six or seven at the time and the man has been the soundtrack of my life since
Garth Brroks took the idea for his live show from Chris Leduex live performance, He even mentions Chris in one of his songs. He was a hell of a performer. A true Cowboy.
I worked one of his shows back in the day… when he did this song, a mechanical bull came up out of the stage! This fog rolled across the stage and he climbed on and rode it during the song! The crowd went nuts!! 👍🎶🎸
"A worn out tape of Chris Ledoux, lonely women and bad booze, seem to be the only friends I've left at all". The music line that changed Chris Ledoux's life
I rode bulls in the early 90's with my three cousins. This song BLARED in the truck as the last song we heard when pulling into the arena. It's funny .... I have not heard that song in 30 years because of the memories. And I still remember every word. THANK YOU for helping me re-live a great time in my life....
I saw Chris in concert back in the 90s...he was the opening act for Garth Brooks. One of Garth's first hits commented about listening to "a worn out tape of Chris LeDoux", which gave a huge boost to Chris' career. We lost Chris in 2005. When you get a chance, listen to his son, Ned LeDoux. Ned sounds a great deal like his father. (BTW, thanks for doing this reaction. Love seeing your videos.)
My husband LOVES Chris Ledoux, as do I, and we danced to his song, Look At You Girl, as our first dance at our wedding. My husband was a bull rider and bull fighter in the PBR in Australia and in more locally in the U.S.
Both this song and Garth Brooks song “Rodeo” are designed within the music to give you the feel and intensity of a Rodeo ride. Both songs go about it in their own unique ways, but both pull it off masterfully. Great Reaction!
I knew Chris. Not well, but anyone in rodeo in the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and even now, knew Chris. So many rodeo dances when he was starting out. Wild times.
Love Chris LeDoux... saw him in concert about a year before he died. Small venue, small crowd but he had so much energy and his show was so.... electric... that he filled every inch of that club... and what a ride he took us on!!! I was in my car, in a parking lot when I learned he died.... I bawled like a baby.
Im from Wyoming and we love our Chris LeDoux here. Cool Story, One of my very good friends is a LeDoux and him and his family attended Chris’s Funeral. There baby started fussing as the service was going on and right about the time my friend was getting up to take care of the kid someone tapped his shoulder and said I can help you. My buddy turned around and Garth Brooks had his hands out to take the baby. So my friend, a little took back said thanks and Garth walked around with he baby and kept him happy and quiet. When you are at your friends ranch ask too ride a steer, it’ll be fun.
Oh, man, Chris is THE good ride cowboy. So many good tunes. Bareback Jack, Even Cowboys Like a Little Rock n' Roll, This Cowboy's Hat, Whatcha Gonna Do With a Cowboy, The Fever. List goes on and on.
I learned about Chris LeDoux from Garth Brooks.. his song Much Too Young to Feel This Damn Old. When this song first came out Garth said in an interview, "No one knows Garth Brooks, but they know Chris LeDoux." 😅
This song was an amazing pump up song driving to a rodeo. We listened to a lot of Chris, AC/DC, and Ozzy. While I was growing up my family owned a rodeo stock contracting company, C R Rodeo. We had Chris a lot at the rodeos we provided the stock for. He has been my hero since I was in 3rd grade forty years ago.
Love listening to anything by Chris. Now that you are heading to a rodeo soon down in Texas, you just might hear this played. Before attending, I recommend you watch the 1994 movie "8 Seconds" starring Luke Perry as the bull-riding legend Lane Frost. It would be some good background info.
When I was a kid (loooong time ago) Chris used to ride the rodeo circuits including a lot of our Utah small town rodeos, and then play live music for the dirt-dance after the rodeo! He was all cowboy and will be missed!
I met Chris when I was competing in high school rodeo, at the Days of 47 rodeo in Salt Lake City, Chris the pride of Kaycee, Wyoming always took the time to connect to the youth. He took the time to give me advice. He was the bareback Bronc professional champion in 1976. Check out his Bang a Drum with Jon Bon Jovi. Here is my favorite Chris line. "Sit tall in the saddle, Hold your head up high Keep your eyes fixed where the trail meets the sky And live like you ain't afraid to die And don't be scared, just enjoy your ride" Now don't be scared, just enjoy your ride
I did 6 years on the local bareback circuit because of this guy. Lol. He was a huge inspiration to me as I grew up not far from him in Wyoming. Had the ranch life for a while and wanted to ride. So, I did.
This is the biggest pump up song as you call it, for every county Fair rodeo around the country. Chris LeDoux was one of the best and a great country artist. God rest his soul.
Chris LeDoux goes hard. I grew up going to Rodeos (riding steers and bulls) with my family, 3 brothers and we all rode, my dad would always throw this song on when we were getting close to the Arena. The amount of adrenaline you feel before getting on is INSANE and this song still gives me butterflies every time. check out Cadillac cowboy by LeDoux.. also another classic rodeo song.
He successfully made the switch from World Champion Bronc Rider to Country Singer. While still competing, he traveled & roomed with my cousin. He kept him awake nights practicing guitar in motel bathrooms. Lol. Garth Brooks offerd to be an organ doner to Cris, but wasn't a match
Some of his best songs by category Best life philosophy song ever- The Ride Songs truly about the west- Western Skies, Call of the Wild, County Fair Romantic songs- Look at you Girl, Tougher Than the Rest, Daily Bread Fun songs- Cadillac Ranch, 5 Dollar Fine for Whining, This Cowboys Hat
I lived the rodeo life for 9 years. Quit 11 years ago and my heart rate still goes up when I hear “ climbing over that chute gate, he settles down inside”! Standing over your bull and sliding down inside is the moment of truth!
If you love Chris Ledoux's rockin songs, then here are a few for you. Stampede, Honky Tonk World, Horsepower, The Fever, and Little Longhaired Outlaw, just to name a few. My favorites are Billy The Kid and Hair Trigger Colt's .44. those two songs must be heard back to back. They are two separate songs, but they blend together perfectly and sound like they go together.
Chris was the absolute best!!! A legend, a true cowboy! “They” can say what then want but Chris was the true king of country!!! His wife sold A tracks of his while he rode at rodeos
PRCA: Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association. I raised my boys on Chris's music. When Rascal Flats covered Life is a Highway, they were not happy. We still listen to his music.
Chris is my all time favorite musician. This song is the first one i learned how to play on guitar. They used to play it a lot during the bull riding. Songs like this and Little Long Haired Outlaw are why Chris is considered Rodeo Rock n Roll. And a lot of todays Texas Country artists find inspiration from Chris.
Chris was one of the nicest guys I have ever met. He took time to talk to my family, signed my shirt. During the concert pointing to us several times. His music was about his life all the way. Fabulous entertainer as well. He is missed.
this is the bull rider's national anthem. when i rode you could walk through the back lot and hear Chris playing every where. this song came out the year i stopped riding.
We are a rodeo family. My son was a young and upcoming bullrider (what this song is about) and this was his all-time favorite song. He was murdered at the age of 19, and we played this song at his funeral. Some people thought it wasn't appropriate but I wanted the funeral to be about Travis and his life. We also played my personal favorite Ledoux song, "This Cowboy's Hat". That one sure tells a good story!!!
@dillodefense Thank you. It has been 21 years now. I don't believe in 'closure', I think that's just a buzz word everyone is using . But I have made peace with it all. Miss him like crazy. Rest easy Travis.. 143 fiorever❤️
I rode bull's for 5yrs, back in the late 80's, your boy isn't very far away, he just went someplace first! God bless 🙌 you 🙏 and yours!..from Wyoming USA 🇺🇸 👋🤠
“This Cowboys Hat” is probably his most famous song. I would recommend that one but there’s another song he did with Garth Brooks called “What You Gonna Do With A Cowboy” that I would really love to see you react to if possible. It’s a pretty upbeat song I think you’ll love it.
My son rode Bulls and he would listen to this song every time before he got on his bull needless to say the song means a lot to me as my son passed away in 2013
As a former bull rider, I listened to this song on repeat on my way to each rodeo before I rode :) Seventeen as another great song by Chris about the rodeo life as well.
As a old guy now 57 former bull rider haven't sat on a bull in 25 years this song still makes the hair on my arms stand up Chris is a Legend in the rodeo. That song has probably been played at every rodeo since it came out its like the cowboy anthem.
Gotta love that beat. No matter the genre, that's pretty much what drives my desire and fondness for my music. Thank you Sebs, once again you chose a good 'un.
This song gives me Heart “Barracuda” vibes. RIP to this Rodeo Cowboy music artist. Big influencer of Garth Brooks and his energy on stage. Seeing Chris perform is so electrifying makes you forget it’s country
I'm a 6th generation Texan. We came here in 1831. My great great grandfather captured Santa Anna at the battle of San Jacinto. Today, he would be considered a young boy, in fact, he was called the boy soldier of Valasco. He was the last messenger to leave the 7:28 Alamo. He caught the measles and couldn't go back. The measles is why I am here today. Anyway, my whole family are "horse" people. I was with the National Cutting Horse Association as Editor of their magazine and wrote a book called "It's the Ride Darlin," so when you come down here, get on a good Quarter Horse, take a little ride and feel the experience. BE SURE TO WEAR A HAT.
I am so glad you found Chris Ledoux! He was a true cowboy! My cousin used to help sell his CDs at The National Western Stock Show in Denver. I come from a ranching family, my aunt inherited it and married a rancher. When he died at over 90, I couldn’t listen to any of Chris’ music without crying. I felt as though the old cowboy era was passing by. Thankfully, the newer generations have not given up. There are so many great songs. Here are some of my favorites: Ten seconds in the saddle, He rides the wild horses, Hippies in Calgary (fun song), Song of Wyoming, The buffalo grass, Horsepower, One less tornado, A cowboy is born, This cowboy’s hat.
That's so freaking awesome u found.this! I was lucky enough to see him in concert,at a cowboy night club.his band was absolutely LIT! What a concert it was.at some .point the guitarist (his guitar was rigged) started to smoke .profusely then shot sparks and flame! One of the coolest and most unexpected things I've ever seen! He was a legend.RIP chris
I used to ride bareback back in my late teens/early 20's, I'm 62 noa; and that song still gets me pumped up. Riding broncs and bulls is a huge adrenalin rush, and can definitely become addictive. And yeah; listening to Chris was a thing on the rodeo circiit.
Thank The Cowboy For The Ride and Riding For A Fall are two of his best. Chris LeDoux lived and loved the cowboy life. There's not a country music lover who doesn't love Chris' music - he was truly iconic. And when he sings This Cowboy's Hat - grab your Kleenex, and then get ready to cheer
The man the myth the legend that was Chris Ledoux. Gone entirely too soon. He never got the recognition he deserved. His son Ned is out there doing his dad's songs. The only way you hear him on the radio is on satellite radio
Hubs was a rodeo cowboy in his teenage/young adult years. Back before Chris was popular. Chris Ledoux has always been and always will be the rodeo cowboys man. And the women loved him too!
Chris lived about 70 miles north of me in Kaycee, Wyoming. The town has made a very nice memorial park and sculpture in his honor. I'm not much of a country music fan, but I enjoy several of his songs. His son Ned carries on his memory and is an accomplished musician himself
Chris is the best of the sub genera of "Western Country" music. You will find his music does not sound like any conventional country past or present. My favorite artist, check out "You just can't see him from the road". Chris was a world champion bareback rodeo rider and an inspiration for me when I was riding bareback as a kid and young man. As for your question, yes we used to get pumped playing this song back in the 90s and early 2000s when I was rodeoing.
Great reaction to on the GOATS that we lost way too soon. Luckily we get to have his son Ned Ledoux continue on and sing amazing music and it's eerie how much he sounds like his dad.
I'm a long time country fan but I have never heard this song. I've heard of Chris as he is mentioned in other people's songs but never any of his music. Thnx! for introducing me to him.
Chris Ledoux was one of the greatest to ever sing about the cowboy lifestyle. He not only sang about he lived it.He never become corporate he stayed true to his roots.I was lucky enough to see him in concert 7 times before he passed away.He inspired artist like Garth Brooks,Cody Johnson and many more.He passed away way to young.
I never got to see him live, but i grew up with him. My parents went to one of his shows and met him at a bar afterwards. They offered to buy him a drink and he turned them down. He said you bought tickets to my show and made the trip to come see it, so let me thank you and buy you a drink instead. Chris was very humble and genuine. Its a shame that more people aren't familiar with him.
This song is a big hype, did bull riding from 08-10 when I was in high school and would always listen to this and rodeo by Garth brooks which is one of my favorites
Used to listen to this on repeat!! Gets everybody pumped up behind the chutes. Announcers used to play this when the bulls were getting loaded. Still makes my hair stand up when I hear it. Thanks for taking the time to review a great song!!
Love the song. Loved to play it, John Lee Hooker and AC/DC while driving. Behind the chutes I didn’t pump up with music. I was focused mentally and quiet. It’s a great driving song.
My eldest son is named after this legend! I met Chris 2 months before I found out I was pregnant and told him I was going to name my first son after him. Now my son, Christopher, is good friends with Ned, Chris's son. Both my son and Ned are singers. Ned is definitely carrying on the family tradition.
Now I'm ready for the day! 😊 Woke up with my back so tight I had to roll out of bed. He performed at our state fair rodeo, and he was high energy, we almost blew the roof off Barton Coliseum when he rode the mechanical bull. 😊
I had seen Chris in concert a few times and had a chance to meet him on one of his record tours at Tower Records. His concerts where full of eagerly. I hope you get into more Chris’s music.
Chris was the real deal. His music was true to who he was and what he believed. He lived his life with integrity and didn’t sell out when he could’ve. As you’ve read, Garth really put Chris on the map with one line in a song but Chris had more than paid his dues! I grew up on a horse. I did rodeo events and Gymkhana. It was a wonderful way to grow up. I’d love to see you react to Keith Whitley’s Don’t Close Your Eyes.
You didn't just find a great country singer, you discovered a real cowboy. Chris Ledeux has been one of my favorites my entire life.
This Cowboy Hat is a great song, too. Every cowboy has a little rock in their soul.
Yes, "This Cowboy's Hat" is a song EVERYONE should Hear and Listen To..........
Yes!! That was going to be my request.
That song was my introduction to Chris ledoux. It made me an instant fan
Send will love this cowboys hat.haunting and beautiful and badass
My all-time favorite song! Sebs would love it
In 1976, LeDoux won the world bareback riding championship at the National Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City. Winning the championship gave LeDoux more credibility with music audiences, as he now had proof that the cowboy songs he wrote were authentic.

a worn out tape of Chris Ladoux put him on the map im not even sure he wanted to be on
CHRIS IS DEAD
This was my favourite Chris LeDoux song. I was working in Music Retail as a manager when Country exploded. When I heard his duet with Garth Brooks who was big at the time, my store was shipped his entire catalog and I blown away! I had no idea how awesome he was!
His band was called Western Underground. They still play with his son Ned.Who sounds sooooo much like his daddy.
“Just Look At You Girl” is a great one to react to with your wife.
My son in law sang that to my daughter at their wedding on the dance floor, the first dance. It was great! I am so glad I got to see Chris in the 90s.
Absolutely! Fav love song of mine. ❤
That's the song that my wife and I dance to on our wedding day it's our favorite song there's no better song than that one
Daily Bread, Millionaire, Gravitational Pull, Somewhere Between the Rainbows and the Rain...LeDoux's body of work has some of the best love songs ever recorded
It's a perfect love song
My favorite song of his is "Western Skies" it really speaks to who he is. He might have had a great music career, but he stayed true to being a Wyoming cowboy. So sad when he passed way too young. His son is carrying on his music.
Western Skies is one of Chris' finest, very personal, very polished, one of my very favorites.
This is my favorite too. Really shows who he was, and that he didn't care about the scene, he lived his life the way he wanted to.
The ride has to be one of my favorites
Western skies is one of my favorites. I live in the rural west and have family in Tennessee.
I was so lucky to meet Chris at a rodeo where his son was riding in 2002 while I was attending tech school in Wyoming! He was so nice and we talked for several minutes.

He was popular before that.
That's when Garth started hiding the bodies
That was the first time Garth Brooks heard of him.
I rode bulls in the early 90's with my three cousins. This song BLARED in the truck as the last song we heard when pulling into the arena. It's funny .... I have not heard that song in 30 years because of the memories. And I still remember every word. THANK YOU for helping me re-live a great time in my life....

Chris was a great song writer and story teller..We lost him way to soon..Please check out his song This Cowboys Hat..

My husband LOVES Chris Ledoux, as do I, and we danced to his song, Look At You Girl, as our first dance at our wedding. My husband was a bull rider and bull fighter in the PBR in Australia and in more locally in the U.S.

I knew Chris. Not well, but anyone in rodeo in the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and even now, knew Chris. So many rodeo dances when he was starting out. Wild times.
Watched him perform that song live while riding a mechanical bull 25ft in the air above the crowd. Was awesome!!!

He totally kicked ass!!!

I grew up riding roughstock. Bulls & Broncs. We always listened to this before riding. It definitely pumps you up
One of his best albums is a live one that describes his sound perfectly "The Rodeo Rock N Roll Collection"

I lived the rodeo life for 9 years. Quit 11 years ago and my heart rate still goes up when I hear “ climbing over that chute gate, he settles down inside”! Standing over your bull and sliding down inside is the moment of truth!
Smell that rosin!!
Moment of truth - when you nood for the gate.
It's the same way with a good bareback horse.

As a old guy now 57 former bull rider haven't sat on a bull in 25 years this song still makes the hair on my arms stand up Chris is a Legend in the rodeo. That song has probably been played at every rodeo since it came out its like the cowboy anthem.
He was a legit rodeo cowboy and champion. His music wasn't JUST country. Many of his songs were country, but he sang many songs that crossed genres.
Gotta love that beat. No matter the genre, that's pretty much what drives my desire and fondness for my music. Thank you Sebs, once again you chose a good 'un.
Barell Racer long time ago. But Chris was often live entertainment at rodeos. He can pump you up! May he R.I.P.
Chris Ledoux is one of my all time favorites.
I feel like I am at home with all these fell Chris LeDoux fans! Look at you girl is a wonderful song of his as well and County Fair.
Barrel racer here. I did all the “girl” events when I was young. Barrel racing, pole bending, trail, keyhole. I loved growing up in the rodeo circuit.
Chris rules. I saw him twice, and he delivered both times in spades. He had so much soul. All Chris is phenomenal. I especially dig his 70s output.
One of the better storytellers to come along in the 90s. His songs seem to put you there.
Chris ledoux is the real deal! He lived the rodeo, and was world champion Ronco rider in the 70s...
The greatness of old school country and some of modern country is the story behind the song.
Please do This Cowboy's
Hat! Great song!
Yes, "This Cowboy's Hat" is a song EVERYONE should Hear and Listen To..........
That sounds like an awesome family trip!!! I’m so proud for you all! You’ll love it!!
I was a rodeo bullfighter. listen to Chris stuff from 1973. this song really pumped you up.
The build up reminds me a little of "Lunatic Fringe" by Red Rider.
I read somewhere that after doing a census of injuries in Neanderthal skeletons they found the nearest modern analog was in rodeo cowboys
I'm a long time country fan but I have never heard this song. I've heard of Chris as he is mentioned in other people's songs but never any of his music. Thnx! for introducing me to him.
I get chills every time I listen to it!
I never got to see Chris in concert, but lived in Wyoming for a while when he was the shit. Peace, Love!!
LeDoux is one of the greats. Hands down, my favorite across all genres
This song is a big hype, did bull riding from 08-10 when I was in high school and would always listen to this and rodeo by Garth brooks which is one of my favorites
Chris Ledoux was on our playlist to every rodeo in the early 90’s it was mixed in with NWA as well!
My favorite song of his is Buffalo Grass. Fantastic song that you can feel as it paints a real picture
i have played Chis LeDoux since high school when my brother and his friends rode saddle bronc in the rodeo every weekend all we played was his music
As a former Saddle Bronc rider this song will definitely get you pumped up. Like good ole Chris LeDoux is a former Barback Rodeo cowboy.
My eldest son is named after this legend! I met Chris 2 months before I found out I was pregnant and told him I was going to name my first son after him. Now my son, Christopher, is good friends with Ned, Chris's son. Both my son and Ned are singers. Ned is definitely carrying on the family tradition.
LeDoux's _Old Cowboy Classics_ and _Songbook of the American West_ are two of my favorite albums.
When I was riding bulls this was my ride song and still one of my all time top favorite songs
Now I'm ready for the day! 😊 Woke up with my back so tight I had to roll out of bed.
He performed at our state fair rodeo, and he was high energy, we almost blew the roof off Barton Coliseum when he rode the mechanical bull. 😊
Chris has lots of good songs love that rodeo rock and roll!!!
I had seen Chris in concert a few times and had a chance to meet him on one of his record tours at Tower Records. His concerts where full of eagerly. I hope you get into more Chris’s music.
The song "Little Long Haired Cowboy" will explain a LOT about Chris's Music phylosophy! God Bless Chris LeDoux!
On the back of the bucking chutes with this playing your pumped asf
Chris was the real deal. His music was true to who he was and what he believed. He lived his life with integrity and didn’t sell out when he could’ve. As you’ve read, Garth really put Chris on the map with one line in a song but Chris had more than paid his dues! I grew up on a horse. I did rodeo events and Gymkhana. It was a wonderful way to grow up. I’d love to see you react to Keith Whitley’s Don’t Close Your Eyes.
