- The JBL Charge 5 portable bluetooth speaker was just announced in 2021 but it's predecessor still has plenty of power. In fact, the main driver is fed with the same 30 watts as the new JBL Charge 5, which also has a separate 10 watt channel powering it's newly added high frequency driver.

Most think more is better but that's not always the case. This single driver is pretty powerful and good quality.
People need to hear it in person. The samples at the stores don't do justice.

oops if people could pair and listen to their taste of music at stores they would probably feel more comfortable picking a speaker, when I listened to the samples non of those songs were my style I took a risk and it paid off well!

yes. it depends on if everything is balanced correctly and has quality components.. i have 2 OLD klipsch tower speakers in my house that only have 8in drivers in them with an OLD optimus receiver and they shake my house when turned up 1/4 of the way.
Had a charge 3,,, got a 4 ,,amazing sounds from the little thing,,now I see why,,,thing looks packed full of quality to me

I subscribed. Can you confirm if the Charge 4 has a microphone? On the JBL website it states that the speaker has a speakerphone function, but JBL tech support says that's an error on the site. However next to the driver there did appear to be what looked like a circular mesh covering something.
Sorry for the late response, I just tried on my iPhone 5 and I can't seem to make it work for some reason.. only earpiece and phone's speaker work. Can't make the Charge 4 pick up sound or play the voice of the other person. I'll have a friend who also owns the Charge try later and I'll get back to you. It's really weird if it doesn't have this, I mean even the Go and Clip has it I think. Thanks for subscribing, glad to have you!
Robert NES816 So my friend tested the speaker phone feature and apparently nothing happens. Unfortunately my Charge 4 is closed up again but I'm pretty sure I've spotted a mic wire in there, a twisted red/black one. Maybe they'll enable it in a future firmware update? Did you receive yours? BTW that circular mesh is some sort of pressure valve I think, a similar one is present on the Go 2 and Clip 3. I've looked closer and it's a tiny hole in the middle, probably regulation the pressure according to the outside temperature.
@@AudioCuriosity Yes Ive had mine for two days. The Charge 4 only has the option to play media, no speaker phone function. It's not a big deal since the speaker phone sucks on most of these speakers anyways, but its still odd that JBL would remove it without further lowering the price. Or maybe the new hardware costs more to produce? Who knows.
What are the dimensions of that speaker??

Glad it was useful. To answer your question, I don't think so. It would probably be hard if not impossible to find a driver the exact size and a better quality. Honestly, that thing is a little beast and can take a lot of beating!

Excuse me, I notice the speaker is mono speaker. If it plays stereo songs, will the sound from other channel missing? For example, Assume it has mono-R. so when there is a song on the L channel, it won't come out. Or does it covert the stereo input to mono, so the sound from both channel come out? Thanks
Yes the speaker sums up both channels internally and plays them through the single driver. There is no audio information loss.

A little late lol. But I took my charge 4 apart. Its different from yours in just about every way. The driver is different (magnet shape, basket, cone) and even the plastic case design is different. Its also interesting to see how heavy that little driver is! As I looked into the desigm more it seems JBL could've centered the driver by arranging the battery cells in a horizontal formation instead of stacking them up, which forced the driver to be pushed to the side. I could be wrong though.
Yea it's really weird that JBL has two Charge 4 versions with such differences. I'm thinking they can't even sound the same since it's pretty much a different driver. Yours has a paper cone right? Did it pass the water test? Usually paper cones have better highs, so it might actually be a plus. Indeed the speaker enclosure seems wide enough to fit two of the 18650s in series, and then maybe the third cell next to one of those. That way they were probably able to place the driver in the middle but who knows, maybe they didn't thought about this being an issue for the customers. You should make some videos with your Charge 4, there seems to be plenty audience :)

So if i understand the radiators correctly, there is no tech inside them, theyre just moved by air inside the speaker?
yes, it's just a membrane. works just like a port (it's resonant frequency can be tuned) but the advantage is no port noise and compact size speaker
I was literally listening to this through a charge 4, my mom showed Me this because I thought that my speaker was broken, because I thought only one speaker was working. But now I know there is only one speaker on the right side. LOL thanks for this video.

You may find yours looks slightly different, and the grill is not screwed on on the front side. This is due to multiple revisions of the same product. Just look at the serial number. If it starts with the two letters “GG,” it will be like this. If it starts with the letters “TL,” it will be what I have. In my case it is simple. You don’t have to pry the back of the grill off to get at the screws that hold on the front, you just pry the back and the front off the same way.
That's correct, thanks for the explanation. It should also be noted that GG models seem to have some sort of coating on the drivers cone, maybe for added water resistance, while the TL version seems to be just a simple paper cone. So if the user plans to use the speaker in humid environments I suggest looking for a GG version just for the possible added protection. The TL's driver cone might have some water repellent agent in it's composition but I'd personally keep it out of the water just to be safe.
Yes I agree. It claims to be waterproof, but people have broken theirs with saltwater.

Ugh, I returned the first one because I thought the other half of the speakers weren’t working. Just got this second one. Frustrating and came here and now realize why my little flip 4 sounds fuller! Returning this!

FLASH Ninja 1001 In conclusion, not all oval drivers are bad. But considering most tv’s use these drivers, they kinda get a bad reputation. It all depends on how its made. But JBL are a quality company,so it would make sense to make a change, that no other company hasnt done,to maybe introduce a new speaker trend, thats my opinion.

a mono speaker can't sound stereo, but both of the audio channels in the bluetooth signal are merged together so you don't lose anything at the output

I have the Bose revolve plus and to has one drver but yet still sound amzimg with powerful bass. And it's the same with the jbl charge 4 good and amazing deep bass. It shows with one drver it pushes the bass out more then rother using two drivers.

sure, the cover has nothing to do with the waterproofness. it simply clips back on

yes as long as you tighten the screws properly, there's an orange rubber gasket around the driver that keeps it sealed

Does anybody know if plugged in the battery is still consumed on the Charge 4? Also is there any difference in sound quality output when plugged in?
If the speaker is plugged in the battery will stay fully charged.

Yeah they're pretty good value, rugged and has a large battery which can be used as a power bank. And yes the driver has a neodymium magnet :)

It won't destroy the water seal but I'd recommend sending it for warranty, I think there's a slim chance that something "disconnected" by itself. It's possible they won't accept it at warranty when they see you've opened it.
@@AudioCuriosity yeah, the thing is i bought it in France, and their warranty policy states that it does not apply to EU countries sadly. So I think I'll just try and see if something disconnected myself, or send it to a professional. Thank you for the reply tho!! :)

you probably won’t find a new replacement driver, only used from another broken speaker that’s sold for parts. keep looking on ebay. but best thing is to have it repaired if still under warranty

Alpha V normally there is a waterproof sealant on the rubber gasket which some of it might get removed if tampered with

Charge 4 has no sub, it's just a single full range driver and two passive radiators on the sides.

Yeah, JBL speakers are usually known for their punchy bass (at least from the Flip series up). But as most other brands, as soon as you go past 60% volume, the bass starts to slightly decrease to avoid distortion. The Charge 4 is well built and durable.

yeah man definitely. some charge 4 versions only have plastic clips, mine also has 2 screws at the bottom

Can you feel the stereo sound easily?
@@pedrwm i did compared both of them side by side. The mono sound of the charge 4 just don't sound crisp as the charge 3. Bass response is a little better on charge 4 but i like crisp and clear sound with some bass which is found on the charge 3.

it's not necessary two speakers, the JBL speakers in general are small, it's not necessary a stereo sound if they put just one powerful speaker.

JBL does not play stereo when linked with other JBL devices. They just play the same song and that's why it's trash. Linking two JBL speakers is like having one, except for maybe one facing backwards and one forwards.

Shit My Charge 4 is fairly new, about a month n half.....Ive dropped it countless times. Now it sounds like a piece of plastic is broken. The sound is perfect wondering if I should take it apart or get a upgrade.
open it and see if you can remove the broken piece. if the speaker is still sealed it's ok, just don't drop it anymore lol

I bought one played it 1time 2nd bumped the table it dropped about 5ft never worked again couldn't find anyone in my area to fix it nobody knew how decided to do it myself took apart didnt c anything obviouse never put it back until I find someone that does
