Kind of gives away some good plot beats, but honestly this looks really interesting and it’s so nice to see Ricci leading big movies again

The son is actually a metaphor for our problems in life. You and I are all actually the mom who is trying desperately to maintain control of our chaotic lives. Like the mom, we fail to realize that evil forces (which is represented by the swamp monster) will always be at work, challenging our ability to "be in control." This is a Christian movie per the director's own words.

The real monster in the movie is grief and regret.
Seems really interesting but pretty much gives everything away and leaves nothing left for to go watch that would surprise me.

It seems to be a Mr Sandman clone or “sound alike” riff. It feels similar without being the actual song. It’s either used for the “somethings off” effect or the film makers didn’t want to pay a royalty for its use. I could be wrong of course. 😉

To me this seems like a classic version of the Babadook
If you put the way the story is and the way the mothers are in both movies they are similar. But they did show way too much in the trailer. Should have kept some hidden I felt like I watched the whole movie already 🤷🏻♀️
Yeah, the trailer is just missing the 'twist' at the end. Which is probably that it's all psychological based on the fear they have from the father. The closer he gets, the more intense the monster is. That's my guess without having seen the film

Ya'know what I'd like to see more of; movies that portray young boys stuck with perpetually-negative, abusive, neglectful mothers that threat their son like shit. Cuz not every case of abuse is some poor helpless woman getting abused by a violent overbearing man.. And not every mother is some flawless, loving, maternal being, that puts their kid's mental health, and well-being ahead of their own..
Shit these days the mother don't give a shit about there kids there kids are but a side cas mommy can't keep her legs closed and thinks a guys going give them everything they want and the kids have to deal with it mom's need a wake up call

@@SANDHUSAAB-bz2kb If you're talking about that new one, I haven't, but it's on my list to watch. I like the actress from American horror story. However it's really not along the lines of what I described above. A: it's a girl in the abusive situation, B: it seems she's not really being abused, so much as kidnapped, and treated nicely by a manipulative woman. C: The woman isn't even vindictive by her own nature, she's mentally disturbed and off her meds(apparently).
Well said. I think my childhood/potential was ruined by passive abuse/neglect from a single mother with 2 daughters. I was easily excluded and saw my father demoralized regularly. You do see it some movies but it never revolves around that premise or builds on it.
@@8xRedMonkeyx8 I think those types of movies may exist, but I honestly can't recall any off the top of my head.. in 8 mile, Eminem's mother was abusive iirc, but I don't remember how much of that movie was built on that point.
While my "dad" was never around (ditched shortly after birth), my mother was also very demoralizing to most men she dated. Some men hit her, and frankly, I didn't blame them.. I remember one such incident of her shouting down the hallway for me to call the police, as done dude was beatin on her, and I almost got up, then I thought about it, and sat back down on my bed.. the number of times she hit me.. like, where was my person to call the police when she was doing that..? So I just sat there with a nervous grin on my face..
Don't get me wrong though, I was just a kid, I don't generally condone violence as a solution to anything, but when you deal with someone screaming at you, at the top of their lungs for hours on end, day after day for weeks, months, or longer.. well, eventually you're gonna lash out just to stop the damned noise. That's one thing that women seem to get a pass on far too often, is verbal/psychological/emotional abuse. Which can last much longer, and have a deeper overall impact than the majority of physical abuse.
I also get you, about ruined potential. I just learned at age 39 that I'm autistic. Between my mother and an ignorant society, my entire life has been wasted up to this point.. and those were my best years.. my mind may be on the mend, slowly(in light of finding out how to interpret myself, and cultivate my intellectual attributes).. but my body will only get worse..
I hope she get to marry the monster at the end. THey seem really cute together 🥰🥰

The woman was the grandmother who told Christina's character she wishes she could take her back to "her time" at the start of the movie when she was crying over a boy.
Only the son died and the mom was in denial about his death.
The movie was set in modern times but the mom was back in her grandmother's time in her head. The car she was driving was her grandmother's first car, you see at the end when the mechanic is working on her car that it is now old and beaten up.

@@rallara noooo you should watch it again...She's not in her right mind... Her son drowned and she couldn't handle it so she ran away to escape the reality of what happened so she could keep her son alive...I just watched it again with my dad and I think it's even better the second time
