    I’m a Minnesotan... I went to a show at Paisley Park when I was 9 with my parents and Prince walked by me down the hall... I swear to you I think I was taller than him. The days after his death we went to Paisley Park and put items on the fence and DT outside the Target Field and watched Purple Rain, and a concert of all his songs afterwards. I grew up blocks from the “Purple Rain” house! Great video 👍🏻!!

    When Prince passed away his estate was in a mess so they calles on the management of Elvis Presley to run the Prince museum and attraction because Elvis and Graceland had been a sucessful attraction for over 30 years..Graceland is amazing :-)

  • @wolflover968
    @wolflover968 5 лет назад +17

    The fact that they allow some recording and still photos of some areas now is pretty cool. But, in a way, I do agree with their earlier restrictions. it really is an art museum. It's meant to be experienced first-hand. Some venues that's all you see are cellphones, cellphone flashes..it takes away from the experience. It's cool (and rather respectful) that you did this in a way that didn't cheapen what's meant to be an experience. Thank you :3

    Excellent tour and explore of those locations very personal to Prince.
    I got into his music after watching Purple Rain at the cinema when it first came out, I must admit I was reluctant to go and see it as it wasn't really my thing, I was into heavy metal rock but my gf at the time was a big fan and she dragged me along. What I found interesting about his life was his passion for music, his determination, talent and how much of a showman he was, he certainly developed into a musical icon. Very sad loss 🙁

    I went the very first week PP opened to the public in 2016. So glad I did! I was able to pay my respects with his urn in the center of the atrium and on the VIP tour, the 1 picture allowed was at his purple piano in Studio A. Very emotional as I sat on HIS piano bench.
    Now that Graceland is out and there is a new PP Team, I will return. Some of their changes are evident in your vid. The tour bus was still parked in the back dock area when I was there and your phone was not returned to you till you were in the gift shop at the end of the tour.
    Unbelievable to see his costumes up close and the reality of his petite body. His moves and the shape he kept his body in always reminded me of an athletic ballerina.
    Still can’t believe he is no longer on earth 😢

    Scott, this was terrific! What a treat to see the stage and all the outfits, i am so glad that they decided to let people take some pictures. That is fantastic. I joined a group and members went to PP and to Purple Rain spots, etc. A local member led the tour and we were shown so much then. So I thought I'd seen all his childhood homes but obviously not. The first two homes were new to me. I got emotional watching the video. When our group members were there, they put balloons with the names of those of us who couldn't make it up on the fence. I didn't expect it but when I saw my name on a balloon on the fence it made me cry. The property with the gate house by the side I believe was where he tore the house down after the marriage was over. It was rumored that when he retired, he was going to rebuild there and enjoy his retirement on that beautiful property.
    From what I heard, he did drive that sky blue car around town every now and then. What an amazing man to invite people (free of charge) to his wee hour concerts and then have pancakes ready for those that stayed. I think that is incredible. Great video, Scott, emotional but amazing!! Thank you for this gem of a video!

    Heart felt tour, thank you. You dedicated a lot of time and I appreciate your commitment to fellow Artists like me. The day he died I printed large signs and placed them in front of my company, it it said: "Honk if you love 'Prince' and if he made a difference in your life - musically speaking.' Cars songs all day long for almost eight hours until we drove our other neighbors crazy however, my brother and I worked together and we sat silently working in our Workshop with that knowing smile that we had done something honoring him that day that no one else on the planet had done. We will miss him, miss his Spirit, miss his kindness, miss his integrity, valued his music, valued his mind both personally and spiritually as well as valued his contributions to this world. Overall, I miss him as a person what he did leave was a great memory and his epic music. Jesus was his number one Focus and that, is the reason he was put here was to shed light and give light and share The Message to people: Jesus is the way, the truth and the life and that's no man comes to the father except through Jesus.

    I’m not sure how I even stumbled across your video but I can provide a tad bit of information as I’m from Minneapolis and my ex husband worked for Prince for a short time. He was an audio engineer for Mayte’s dance/ballet tour called The New Power Generation Dance Company. The tour was cut short for some reason. If I remember correctly it had something to do with advertising.
    Prince had a living quarters at Paisley Park but it’s not where he lived full time. His main residence was some house in Chanhassen.
    I’m not sure what the layout is at Paisley Park is these days but there was a receptionist desk when you first walked in. Gold records covered the wall going down the hall as you walked in and soooo much purple furniture.
    The first time my ex husband took me there a black cat came up to me rubbing up on my leg. It had a gold charm on its collar that was Princes (sign). The receptionist told me it was a stray someone there found on the property when it was a kitten. I wish I could remember it’s name.
    His cars and motorcycles, including the Purple Rain bike were in a different area back then. I never saw them but the ex told me about all of his cars. The sound stage is massive but I never went to any of his shows there because as you said, he was famous for not showing up or showing up at 3,4,5:00 am.
    That empty building that’s never been used was actually intended to be a school for kids. I think he had plans of starting it for the children of his employees but it was a fleeting thought. I remember seeing a playground there back at that time but in your video it’s not there anymore. I’m not sure when it was tore down.
    The only employee Prince kept around for years and years is a guy named Buzz Goodchild. He was Princes estate manager & a friend of my ex. I think you can find him on FB. He’s a super nice guy and I’m sure he would be willing to answer any questions you would have about all of these properties.
    You missed going to his old nightclub Glam Slam in Minneapolis. I’m not sure what it is now but I believe the big logo is still on the dance floor. That was all purple as well.
    I had no idea they got rid of the elevator. Do they just use the stairs now ?
    I have thought about doing the tour now after his death but that place actually brings back some bad memories for me. Seeing the tour bus in your video triggered them 😬
    Maybe someday.

    Hey Scott. Thanks for showing where our Minnesota man had lived and made his music. A friend of mine who worked at this place got to literally go inside his studio and if I remember got to meet him. He said he was nice and very soft-spoken. I hope to visit Minnesota again someday and see the statue they made for him. His passing shocked the heck out of me, especially hearing how he died and how similar it was with the song, : "Let's go crazy. " Just a total shock. Minnesota will never be the same. Thanks again. @@aprilwest1883 Yes but only about work. I worked at his house at the entrance in a guard shack. I saw him frequently but rarely talked to him. He was not a very social person in real life. Not bad just very to himself. It was my job to make sure no one got on the estate and run things up to the house when delivered. Even when stuff was delivered tapes from the studio, the news paper I would only walk it up to the house and leave it in front of a long window next to the front door. Then when I would get back to the guard shack and check the camera on the front door usually the item was gone. Meaning he grabbed it. He didn't have any live in help he lived absolutely alone when I worked there. All cleaning and restocking his house was done when he left and quickly so the house would be empty when he returned. Obviously he brought some people home sometimes but almost never.

    • @rcnation8910
      @rcnation8910 4 года назад +2

      @@aprilwest1883 I would guess so. I believe his son died there or something and after that is when he had it demolished. It was about two miles down the road from Paisley Park. At the time I worked there Paisley Park was still a functioning studio and although he had a living quarters upstairs. It had no fence around it. The house property had a giant windmill (30 to 40 feet tall) in the back yard and that's where we were required to go every hour to walk the property and make sure there was nothing going on. Also at the time he owned tons of property there. The driveway was very long and you couldn't really see it from the street. I worked there in 1991-92. I still have my security uniform. Lol. He had just gotten the newly released BMW 850 which was a 12 cylinder sports car and gave his older BMW 740 or 750 4 door to his brother Dwayne. Ironically less than ten years later I owned a guitar shop and his guitar tech Techumi and Paisley Park commissioned our shop to build 10 yellow cloud guitars. They were basically copies of the first white one Dave Russan Built him for Purple Rain. I built two and they screwed us over on money so that was all we built. But now one of them I built and hand carved is at a Hard Rock cafe. I found it in a Hard Rock cafe coffee table book with the certificate of authenticity we delivered with the guitars next to it in the display case. Lol. Life is strange.

He was wheeled out in one of those cases you see artists store stage gear in. The case was put in the side if the tour bus so Prince could leave the venue and get on the bus in anonymity.

    Thank you for this Scott! July 1984 - the opening of Purple Rain, I was with friends in San Francisco and there was a huge line around a huge building and we didn't know what was going on but decided to join in and get in line. I'll never forget that. It was an amazing experience. Everyone loved it and was so into the movie. Then around 5 or 6 years ago my daughter was able to hang out at Paisley Park a couple times. The first time, no Prince, but they had a great time and were given a pancake breakfast around 5a. The 2nd time she went, Prince was totally hanging out and he played a set around 1a. My daughter was there, just a few feet away, totally awestruck. Amazing experience.

    Hi Scott. Yes the Paisley Park tour is very emotional. I’ve been there twice the last time was 2018. It’s amazing they let you use your camera in the soundstage room -that room is so vast-We couldn’t when I was there.. The first time I visited in 2017 I did see the urn with his ashes displayed. Nobody was expecting that to be presented. And there wasn’t a dry eye. We also got to sit on the purple couches in the NPG music room. Which really surprised me. On my second tour in 2018 we went into the actual control room of studio A. You can only imagine the tears in our eyes as they played Break Down. And how you describe him being very diminutive, it’s unbelievable the size of his clothing and shoes. How somebody of that stature was so dynamic and giant. Thanks for the tour, very special. Your miles that you put on showed a labor of love and true fam ship. God Speed
