- I was watching my old Football Manager clips on stream recently and a thought hit me - oh how much I sucked at FM back then. I was really dreadful at it. Naturally, I then set out to make a list of the biggest FM tips I didn’t use then that I do use now. The sort of stuff that takes you from thinking your tactics are good enough to start streaming FM in the first place to making a ton of tutorials about Football Manager itself. Maybe the point of this video is to turn you all into me, that’d be cool.
We need more FM RUclipsrs in general I think. I have huge gaps in my knowledge on things like training that I have yet to fill. I hope to soon though. This video covers more tactics, transfer tips, and scouting ideas to turn you into a real beast in the game. The problem is, there’s really nothing that does that outright, but you’ll be marginally better at Football Manager than before you watched this video. Mission accomplished.

Lower your press one notch, lower your tempo one notch, and play a tactic that suits your players. Oh and don't change things around much. Give the lads time to gel. Do those things, and you will be good.

So on the topic of delaying payments, the AI also really really loves this. I run a very financially succesfull club at this point and never really need the money right now. So I simply offer players out at 0 paid now and a big amount in installments. And clubs love this because they see a player they can afford right now without taking a big chunk out of their budget. Often paying more than what they would if it had been just a big chunk of money. And I love the idea of spreading out my profit and getting a steady income spread out over years.
Do you actually get the money though?
@@JohnDoe-nt1sv Of course. Every January and June/July I get paid big time while basically making sure that I have a "stable" income for the next couple of years.
Yeah this doesn't work for selling players in lower leagues, this would kill me in league 2, I came up from the Vanarama North in 3 seasons with Bradford Park Avenue. I have no budget every window because the club is broke.
@@Goudg I had this, sold ihatarren to city who would only offer 11mil, anything over they just cancelled, so I put 2 12 month installments for 11mil each plus the original 12mil, in effect getting 33 mil for him

PERFECT TIMING. Just came back to my PC with my breakfast on the plate
For me one thing that is extremely important, is how well they perform, I have purchased one player when I was in serie B in italy (Andrea Ghezzi), he is completely average compared to another player right now, but since I arrive in serie A he have become for 3 times in a row the best midfielder of the serie, finishing the season with 10 plus assistances a couple of goals. This season I have purchased a new right winger to replace him, but this "prodigy" performs at best a 7.0 and Andrea this season have a average of 7.44. So for me he is one of my best players, I dont care what are is stats.
I would change that to "how he performs for your team."
The list of players I've signed that had average performances at their current clubs, but became stars at mine, is endless.
What I try to do (can be hard at times), is when I spot a player that have better attributes in the areas that I want compared to my current starter, I sell the backup in that position and pit the new signing towards my starter to see who will be the best choice in the future. Oftentimes, a new signing will only perform well enough to be backup in the first season, but will become my new starter in the coming season.
But yeah, whoever performs best at your club, should be starting. I got a player as a backup right winger in the Vanarama National, last season he helped me get promoted to the Championship, bagging 10 goals and 5 assists. He shouldn't have been good enough, but he would score goals that no one else would from that position - if I had made selections based purely on stars and looking at his attributes, he would have been gone about two seasons ago.
@@SpurvN that is what makes fm great game, you have everything to compare two players, one players is better based on stats, but the other one plays better, so you cant know how good a player is until you play him.
Shouldn't you adjust your tactic in your player's attributes and abilities? For example if you have a world class midfield with good passes and so on you should pass him the ball? Or am I wrong?
How could you not fall in Love with a fullback that has 10 for crossing and tackling but 18 for pace and acceleration?

Another thing with buying players, if it's a developmental player that's gonna get loaned out anyways, a loan-back clause can save like 50% on a transfer fee. The AI seems to love these clauses this year.
Someone needs to come up with a Tony or Academy Award for sports games information clips. You would win one every year.
What i have discovered with potential is that most players have done all the major developing they cam by the time between 15-18 ,very few players get amazing growth after 18. So if he is not good enough to atleast be a squad player when he is 18 or 19, that potential really means squat all
Not always, you can get late developers (especially if their weaknesses are mental attributes). If you can send them out on loan to play regularly, and they perform well, you can suddenly see their stats increased when they return from loan. Plus you'll likely get higher offers for the player. But this depends on the size of your club.
@@watteffer no I got a defender that was a perfectionist and had solid 5* potential and he was 20 when I got him he never developed and sold him for 120m later

I'm going to drop a hot tip that might end up as a video.... Arthur Hovsepyan does(well did) have it.... at CM. If you retrained him as a CM,/Mezzala and work on his tackling he could have worked out. It's something a lot of people forget about, but an either-footed CM with high bravery and decent everything else gets on the field for me enough that it might kickstart their development. Worth thinking about at least. I don't know how many wonky TM I'm retrained as BPDs, or technically gifted wingers with decent size I've made defenders and it worked out. You literally have nothing to lose in a lot of cases with some of these guys. And the 1-10 that work are are 1-10 young players you turn into valueable assets.
"Don't fall in love with the green" is a really good advice, especially when you just started a save in Pakistan's Premier League and your players just simply don't have any. They have all five star potential, though (which speaks volumes about how bad my team actually is :D)

because it's FM. I think 120k is a good number for such a small community and it will keep growing. He also always has over 1k viewers on twitch. I'd guess the average is around 1400 maybe even more? Those numbers are pretty good from my uneducated perpective :D

Have you ever had an experiment with putting double intensity in players individual trainings?
1. Does it have any influence on player's development?
2. Maybe it is useful to put double intensity only for young players from u18 squad while they don't have big match intensity?
3. Is there any bad consequences that might be caused by double intensity except the injury risks?

I just started a new park to prem save with AFC Telford in Vanarama North, managed to bag a tasty young winger MUCH better than he should be for my team using the trusty Zealand trial spam! Played him first team for 4 weeks of trials and he couldn't wait to join! Stoked.
Using shortlist often is great. I've only recently started doing it in my save by shortlisting players I'm interested in, potential replacements and wonderkids. Getting messages when the player got transfer listed, contract expiring, if they extend/ reject a new contract allowed me to make decent transfers.
Also I got to track their progress and performances when they got awards or something and I think you can also see on the news/ social section if they are unhappy as well which was kinda useful
i dont know how anyone can play without shortlists u just NEED one to keep track of players that have made u look twice even if u never sign one,also if you need say a right back u can have a search for one and shortlist five or six options then go back and have a closer look,if u cant sign your top choice u go down the list,recruitment would be impossible for me without an indefinate shortlist it costs nothing

i dont know how anyone can have decent recruitment without a shortlist preferably an indefinite one costs u nothing to just add anyone who ticks any box or anyone that just gets your attention for any reason and the club keeps u up to date on anything happening with a player,its also kind of nice if say your over 5 years into a save and youve done really well to have a quick look at some of the players you considered back in the day when your team wasnt so good,shortlists have been huge for me all the way back to champ man 97-98

I have an idea for a new experiment video. Apologies if it's been done before. The question is, how much do facilities really affect player development? Since first team game time is absolutely the best way to develop players, should we not care as much about facilities when loaning a player?

The thing I find is I have a 10 year career mode with Brentford win premier league championship efl cup and the thing I found is most helpful is drop ur line don’t press go much and try to pass your way through because of u try really high press as a weaker side it won’t work yes it will be lees exciting but it will get u the results
I always put champions league, league goals and international cap fees when buying a player reasoning that if they hit any of them then I won't mind paying as the player would have been a success. I also reason that my club will be in a better place a few years down the line

well, when i started new game i went and sell basically my half of my u23 and B team :D i got quite a nice sum for them :D they would be decent players, but i wanted better, i signed some players from abroad that were free. If i found that they are not developing i will look for sale. Meaning i will make some money from them and then i can buy some better players (i hope :D)
I also suck when I play this game at first but I'm doing better if I play longer than ever. It is also the same as the other games too so just keep playing from worst to best.

The one consistent challenge I’ve always had is Home Grown players.
Playing Stockport. Risen to Championship now, but I have to include a sub each game who is still really crap, just to meet the rules.
Because I’ve risen from the Vanarama so quick, there’s a huge LAG in the ability to grow players. The quality is just so far behind my team. How do I resolve this?
Gotta fish those youth contracts via scouting, and keep the wonderkids in the club for 3 years. You can loan them to lower leagues from UK and they will be homegrown. But yeah, not much you can do when rising fast. The championship is the hardest league to get promoted off so you will have a couple of years to plan for it.
Is there somehwere I can see the tactics I used in a previous match? I can see the full report from a previous match I've played against a certain rival, the formation I used and all kinds of crazy stats and data I won't really use, but I cannot see the most basic and crucial stuff: the team instructions, player instructions and team mentality I used for that match. C'mon, it must be possible somehow... it would be so dumb from SI to not make that possible in the game.

I once was like you, but then my scouts came back from the beautiful lands of south america and brought the gifts of 18 year old wonderkids with 4 star current ability and also still room to develop.

I remember having a glitch in my old FM (when they didn't have rights for the German national team) I could effectively sign German players for free by offering like £200m once the player had played 20 games for the national team.
That wasn't a glitch I think. I've read somewhere they couldn't let real players play for germany national team because of some german regulations.

I tend to run all the clubs I manage into financial difficulties...... In my current save I perform every year which forces the board to take loans to pay off the balance now we are in the Premier league let see what will happen
Any advice on young players natural fitness. Signed a player from my youth intake with great attributes but a fitness of 6. It was a big nó no for me but knew I could sell him later, got 7 million. Another intake player I solded had better but still low natural fitness, now he a superman in a title winning team
Natural fitness is a player's susceptibility towards getting injuries. You can manage that by putting them on a low intensity training and limiting the number of matches they play. Just don't expect them to play 50 a season without breaking down.
I feel so much better knowing I don't need to use my youth team I haven't gotten anyone good from it

Compare players attributes allways is the best mental vs.techical,pace jumpong and others..why i dont now..look player who have accel.16,17 but have det.10,bravery 7,decions 10 off o the ball 10 compare with player who have accel average and very high mental attributes allways go better

I'm curious if #3 is considered cheating. Imagine there's a guy selling for 30M upfront, but in the end you pay like 5M upfront, 7-10 in installments and 25-30 after 50 games. You keep the player for 1-2 season and then sell for 30-40 upfront easily.

The reason why young players with high potential might not develop is because at the level of a team coming from the lower leagues and getting promoted all the way to the top league, your training facilities are usually going to be awful same as your coaching, but while you can improve your coaches faster, with facilities it's a lot slower as they require a lot of money.
State of the art facilities, 5* potential, perfectionist and playing for the senior team never developed after 4 years and I just decided to sell him

CAN SOMEBODY HELP ME?!?! I'm playing a Belarus Save, just been hired by club and having a extremely difficult time signing staff. Absolutely NOBODY wants to sign with my club, either they decline (ie: Standard Reputation of club is too low for them, Unwilling to Move) or I simply can't afford to pay their initial asking price (even after trying to negotiate them down). Where can I find Staff that are cheap to sign???
Finding staff shouldn't be a problem, just keep lowering their required attributes until you find staff that are willing to join, they won't be good but they will be something. Even amateur clubs can sign staff, shouldn't really be a problem
Well initially you will struggle with that. Latest iterations of fm made a sort of bottleneck when it comes to good staff. Once your reputation and finances improve you will drown in them.
Scout knowledge also plays a part in locating good staff. For now just focus on filling the staff roles with year per year contracts. Your main objectives are trinity of det/dis/mot. If all of them are above 10 you are good to go. Also look at their adaptability.
If you are just hired you will definitely find them in job centre after adding job offers. Not maybe the optimal way, but you can find decent staff there. If you want to look for them by yourself you can try to set maximum reputation on candidates.
