epiccreepertnt Wow. You're right. 2005! Damn! That was about a month before I started my 8 1/2 year college experience. And when Myspace was still popular.
A 13 year old video for a 22 year old game. This music arrangement still pulls me out from any negative feeling I have with tears of joy. I loved this game with all my heart.
Man the incredible amount of effort Square/Nintendo did on this game is amazing. Not only did we get like 3 endings but they also made 2d versions of the characters in the credits parade. Music is just so well done it's addicting.
After beating Smithy, I almost cried, and almost cried again when I saw the Ending. This is one of my favorite games of ALL time. Thank you Square and Nintendo for creating such a masterpiece.
This game really is one of a kind. Even the other Mario RPGs like the Paper Mario series and the Mario & Luigi series don't hold a candle to this one. This was the first game that made The Mushroom Kingdom feel like a REAL place and not just a backdrop. Its amazing how the SNES was able to create games with so much depth and feeling while modern games struggle to even when they have insanely high budgets, huge development teams, and cutting edge hardware/software to work with. I guess less really is more.
I suppose it was because back then, graphics and sound were limited for game development, so they had to try harder to tell convincing scenes and complex stories. And honestly, it works much better than the average modern game cutscene.
Why is this ending so special? In my opinion, I think because it is a smaller scale reflection of what happens when our life ends. We get to look back and think about all we did, all the things we experienced: good and bad. All the people, places and things we loved... and that at some point we'll have to say goodbye. Those conflicting emotions we feel when the end approaches are perfectly represented here and also the music does nothing but extraordinarily underline all those feelings... sometimes it is happy, most of the time it's a sad melody, but it also gives hope and a sense of accomplishment. It's been more than 20 years since I finished the game for the first time and back then, it didn't hit me so hard because I was in an age when you take everything for granted. But as you grow old and start realizing that there are some things that are gone and will never be a part of your life again, that's when reflections of your life experience such as this beautiful ending, touch the deepest corners of your heart.
The slightly slower reprisal of that music at 1:46 always gets me. Just really makes you reflect on what a journey you’ve been on. It’s been so long since we first heard that music as Geno the doll became Geno the star.

this game brings back so many beautiful memories. my sister & I were in toy’s r us one day back in 97 when she told me to choose a game & she’d buy it for me.
