Had this game on PSP. Was in a low point in my life and ended up going to a psych ward. They let me have my PSP to play so i would play this game at night in my dark room at a mental facility. It was awesome!
I love the replayability of this game. Doing different things can unlock so much cool stuff. Like for example, the Fireman accolade is unlocked when you save Alessa in about a minute (or under). You get a fireman’s outfit and axe. Then theres stuff for like barely using the map, barely using the flashlight, and taking a lot of steps
It’s me!!! At 6:27:55 and I got adressed by name by @Bwakbasoup! This is amazing I watch these VODs to sleep and relax at night because his voice is calming and helps me sleep and it’s an honor
Origins is actually good, it has it's little details, like for example, I don't like how they used Alessa, trying to make her a "creepy girl" when we already know she's actually the victim, probably movie inspired crap. That and some dollar store version of SH2 monsters. Other than those things, Travis is a good written character, and I like to think of him as the Charon (the styx ferryman) of Silent Hill, bringing and taking out other characters. It's original monsters are actually great and very creepy, like the puppets in the theater and the shadow people in the assylum (It's funny that Silent Hill being a small town, has actually two mental hospitals).
I think the only time that this would have ever been considered the "worst Silent Hill" game was the brief amount of time it was out right before Homecoming released, although it definitely would've been fighting for that spot with 4. I got this on the PSP when it released, by the way. It was fun playing it in bed late at night
Right? I loved this thing on the PSP, even though a fair bit of it can be called derivative, I.e we don’t really need the whole Butcher “we have Pyramid Head at home” situation. But knowing where this came from, with them originally showing an over the shoulder RE4 style game with your barricading doors and running from monsters. And to instead get to play essentially a proper 1-3 styled SH game on a portable system was neat. It’s a shame Homecoming sucks, and that Shattered Memories and Downpour both feel like devs had their own horror game idea and slapped SH paint on it to get funding. Origins briefly made me hope SH would be ok.
I'm guessing the "Wow music" Bawk is talking about in the theater area might be using some kind of sample from a music database that was also used by blizzard in their tracks. I swear I also heard it somewhere in a blizzard game and after looking around I found almost the same exact instrument/notes can be heard about 30 seconds into the track "Lady Vashj Of The Naga" in Warcraft 3 The Frozen Throne. This situation kind of reminds me of the Jungle Drums track from half-life that was also used in an episode of courage the cowardly dog.
OMFG I clicked so fast on this video!! This was my 1st ever SH game (PSP) and I adore it so so much! My first exposure to the world of SH was the 1st movie from 2006 and oh boy the memories!! ❣ So glad you played it Bawk! I also appreciate that you consider it a good SH game that is just below SH 1-3 🥺🙏🏻 "O.R.T" by M.E.G and Akira-san is an all time banger and I still remember getting spooked tf out by this game from start to end (I haven't finished it because of school back then but I have seen its ending) 🥲✌🏻 This and Shattered Memories deserves the credit that was meant to be 😤✊🏻 P.S: the og PSP version was so dark for me tbh 😅😬
Hahh the background whispering in the ritual cutscene is the same stock voice that was used in Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines when you activated obfuscate!
Of the non-team silent games, 0rigins is the best. Sure it pales in comparison to the originals but it has a creepy atmosphere and I liked the Protagonist. And compared to ascension, this game is awesome.
This silent hill game was a love letter to the silent hill fans of team silent, the mechanics for this silent hill gane shouldve been the blue print for all future totles...the stanima bar can go though
Homecoming and Silent Hill four both have their defenders....but not one really stans for this little game. Nobody really goes out of their way to piss on it, either. And that's....prolly how it should be. Everyone kinda forgets that it exists when discussing the franchise. And when it is brought up, it's always like "oh yeah, I played through it once." Not good enough to be loved. Not bad enough to be hated. Not unique enough to be remembered.
Motion Blur makes sense in most RACING games, but in normal games idky Game Devs think "Oh wow! They love Motion Blur in Need For Speed! Lets put it in this NON Racing game", and for whatever reason still to this day, they still put it in games even though pretty much everyone turns it off if it's an option. And I hate film grains, if there's a mod for a game that removes the film grain, like in RE2R, I'll use that just because it makes everything look crisper and clearer. Let the games environment set the tone, no need to overlay some nasty looking film grain that adds nothing to the game.
@@mustangmckraken1150A well implemented motion blur can turn disgusting teary 30fps into somewhat of a believable illusion of smooth 60. So you're just wrong.
The "crispy" jagged edges (because there was no anti-aliasing on ps2), "crispy" limited dynamic lighting and of course, my favourite, "crispy" bilinear texture filtering of low-res textures... yep, aha, right, "crispy". Film grain covered for all of those issues.
Always liked Origins, 4, and 5. Did not like Downpour, but the story was good. Of the set, Origins is the best. 4's main problem is that Henry is hardly a character aside of being in love with Eileen. And I really didn't like how guns where barely there and the fully charged ax swing kinda broke the game with it's I-frames. 5 was kinda broken on Hard because the fire ax and knife's hit box activation is too close the the models and it makes the first 1/3rd of the game an rng mess. Really liked the story though. Not really scary, but it has it's moments. I remember the PC port being a broken mess. It crashed ALL of the time. X360 version on the XBSX is best IMOE. Hope the SH2Remake is good. I can't believe that episodic, choose your adventure PLUS pay to win SH game they came out with. What the hell were they thinking!?
This game is a miracle given its development history. The California team originally responsible for this game wanted to emulate the success of RE4 through similar mood and combat. I honestly think Origins and Shattered Memories are good games & more enjoyable to play than even SH 4. I think this game is a success. There's small gripes with the story but I think Twin Perfect's video ignores some plausible connections. For example other people clearly aren't experiencing the Otherworld. The protag is accessing Alessa's nightmares through a mirror because his mother saw things in the mirror and that left an impression on his subconscious mind. This lines up with the timeline. There's a note in this game that covers up the discrepancy about the fire. The police are falsely claiming a boiler exploded. It seems in this game the ritual required fire and she was supposed to die in the birthing process but the protag intervened thereby spoiling their plans.
I think it's that they took the wrong lessons, or maybe incomplete lessons, on what made SH2 work. They make it _too much_ about the main character's past sins/trauma. The enemies/environment takes a _bit_ too much interest in the protagonist. Whereas in SH2, yeah the enemies take on the appearance of his traumatic past, but they largely seem disinterested or slightly irritated by his presence. It makes them more alien and colder.
Honestly I feel like Shattered Memories is a solid entry in the silent hill series It really felt like it was busy doing its own thing despite being a reimagine of SH1 I know some elitist hate anything not "Team Silent" but honestly SM is a solid entry in the silent hill franchise
I had this on PS2, one thing that I kinda wish the game had was a brightness and gamma adjustment in the options menu. It is really difficult to see anything aside from the film grain. Now if they added options for players to access easily I'm sure the game would of sold well and probably been really good

The idea of this game is inherently flawed, the original SH doesn't need a prequel. It explains its entire plot, and if you *need* more supplemental lore SH3 provides it. The one real problem with Origin (besides being able to go bck and forth as you please between the real world, a nonexistant mirror dimention and a shit ton of questionable gameplay decisions) is that it shoves in the Alessa plot when it shouldnt have even been posible to even take place in the first place while at the same time not respecting what was already stablished, showing how the ones who wanted to force the developers in to making this an "origin" story of the events of the first game had zero clue or even the slightest understanding of what happened in the first game,I think if they scrapped the redundancy of re-explaining what had already been explained enough in silent hill 1 and let them develop the game as they intended it,it would have just turned out as an average but understandable sh2 ripoff game, instead of a bad mish mash of plots with no real conection to the first game.
