Yeah, bawk tends to have janky opinions sometimes. As flawed as this game is, you're mental if you think it's worse than homecoming, downpour, or book of memories
SH4 is seen as one of the best by some (and for good reasons). I for my part just don't like the repeating levels later on and it's pretty stressful, but I still love it. SH3 is my fav, alongside SH Homecoming (yes, really). So yeah :)
some people hate it, but its my favourite silent hill game because of the music and the room part where you get to fend off ghosts spawning in your safe house.
Hated it?! Dang! Oh well. This is actually my first SH game. I remember seeing it in stores and thinking the cover art was so spooky. I eventually bought it and was immediately hooked, totally immersed from start to finish. Of course I eventually tried the others and realized it was the weakest of the original four, but man, great memories.
This game is one of the best in my top 10 of all time... The atmosphere, the scary hauntings, the stalker walter sullivan😮 man thanks for playing this ❤
Oh man! This game is the best SH I've ever played! I even top it on SH2. It's different in every aspect. Just try to picture that room with Eileen's huge face!
The plot in this game is a masterpiece .the whole lore of Walter Sullivan is super cool.the room 302 itself is an amazing idea ,ahead of its times .only thing I don’t like is backtracking later on in the game .apart from that ,this game is a gem .
The general vibe and music of SH4 is phenomenal, probably the most unsettling out of original 4, the story was great too. Too bad they fucked up the gameplay, you know, the most important part. Weapons, inventory, ghosts and half-a-game being back track is some unbelievable dogshit that I'm surprised was greenlit. If only they kept weapon and inventory system from 1-3 and expanded all levels instead of making you replay them and maybe just have a cool final location that is amalgamation of all previous areas and we could have another certified SH hood classic. Oh well
Pretty much this. The concept is really cool, the music as always is phenomenal and some of the areas were cool. But other areas were really bad, the combat and overall movement feels worse than the trilogy, the ghosts are annoying, pooly implemented limited inventory and the escort quest for 2nd half made me not even finish it
Bawk, don't know if you're ever reading this. But, if you ever playing this again, the most important thing for Eileen's possession is cleaning your Room of Hauntings. If the apartment is cursed, Eileen will progressively get hurt all the time. The candles do heal her, but if there are hauntings in the apartment, the effect will not last for long. You should always focus on cleaning all hauntings and save extra candles for the ending. Also, I avoid getting Walter's doll, because it give's you an extra haunting and nothing else. I played this game a lot since PS2 and it's the only consistent method for Good and Mother endings.
Silent Hill 4 is definitely the worst of the Team Silent games. It really is an annoying game to play (no tank controls, limited inventory, escort mission, AoE enemies, etc) With that said, I still like it a lot for other reasons. The game is genuinely creepy, the story is interesting, the soundtrack is excellent as usual, and the whole concept of "The Room" is quite genius for a horror game, and surprisingly influential (PT and its many clones exist because of SH4, basically)
IMO I think Homecoming is worse than this one. Although there are many reasons to dislike each game. I haven't really an opinion on what the worst one would be for me.
I absolutely love limited inventory, the escort mission, AoE enemies in this game. The limited inventory makes it feel like a Resident Evil game, which is absolutely fantastic. The escort mission is filled with interesting dialog lines. When Eileen takes too much damage, she becomes way more interesting. The AoE enemies are creepy and stress inducing. They are not a problem at all, use the run button and you’re good.
@@UTF016 Limited inventory works very well in RE, but in Silent Hill, not so much. Though I understand the game needs to give you reasons to come back to the room regularly, so it can easily be forgiven. The AoE enemies ARE stressful, yes, but in a very annoying way. The Twin Victims, for example, also create a lot tension, but do so in a good way, through its imposing, creepy presence. Anyway, I think the game is generally quite unpleasant to play (the absence of a tank controls option is unforgivable) but thankfully, as I said, SH4 has many other (non-gameplay related) merits that make up for its (gameplay related) shortcomings.
@@neorsb There is actually a very good reason why Resident Evil games have limited inventory and why there is basically no melee combat in that game. This is to prevent weapon and amo stacking, to make you feel as if you are not fully in control, while avoiding a softlock scenario in which you can no longer progress due to lack of amo, since you can always get back to the item box and maybe get the amo you need. If you have unlimited inventory, the system of breakable weapons is kinda pointless. You can just stack infinity of weapons and murder everything with ease. People were laughing at "Origins" for this very reason. To me personally SH4 is a mesmerizing experience with less clunky combat mechanics than in previous entries.
@@UTF016I wish I enjoyed the gameplay in SH4 as much as you do, because no matter how much I like the story and atmosphere in SH4 (one of the creepiest games ever) I never feel like going back to play it, because the gameplay feels so bad and annoying to me. While it sure was a departure from the established norm, I still adore The Room a bunch. The whole concept of being trapped in your own apartment, visiting nightmarish locations via a hole in your bathroom (or whichever room), slowly learning about the dark ritual which is taking place - awesome stuff. Then your safe haven becomes haunted, little by little - again, awesome stuff. Wish that more horror games did that sort of thing. For example, the safe haven in The Evil Within, which you access via mirrors, also falls apart slowly but surely as the story progress and ultimately vanishes completely. Now, I will admit as much as the next guy that the game has some serious flaws. Nobody likes escort missions, and if this is not the mother of them all, then I do not know. The limited inventory can be such a pain, you either love or hate the immortal ghosts, etc. Still, beyond it all, the game manages to impress for sure and was able to deliver the atmosphere which Silent Hill games had become known for. Honestly, I would rather play The Room over and over than lay hands upon Homecoming again. That one is such a mess, a buggy one at that. The combat does not belong in a Silent Hill game, and what little plot there is gets ruined by forced action sequences and lack of character depth, etc. Even Downpour, despite its own history of flaws, at least managed to give us a somewhat spooky town and a convincing (albeit predictable) plot. Homecoming is just a disaster by comparison and - in my opinion - the worst of them all. No, it is not unplayable and can deliver a wee bit of enjoyment, but calling it a better game than this is stretching matters for sure. Do take note that I am not accusing anyone here - this comment is merely based on the title of the video, and you can choose whichever of the Silent Hill games you love/hate the most. But I dare say that there are objective reasons as to why The Room is not the worst one of the bunch - that award clearly belongs to Ascension now, which is nothing Silent Hill ever was, and less than that even. Regardless - much love to you all ♥
Many people say it’s the worst silent hill, and I don’t think it deserves that title. It was clearly an experimental sort of game, and in my personal experience it made me feel much more anxious and frightened than any other game in the franchise
silent hill 4 control is so suck, but the story and the feeling of uneasy is on another level , i agree that how to enjoy this game is watching other people play it
A little late but the candles only heal Eileen temporarily, similar to the ampoules So you should only heal her right before you pick up the umbilical cord
I love those silent hill. it obviously has some major flaws, but the making of a great game is there. I absolutely agree that this game is best enjoyed by watching someone else play though. A remake could really rectify all the issues this game suffers from.
This was the first ever silent hill I played on my ps2. I completed it though got the worst possible ending, I still enjoyed it. It does feel like a weird spin off from the series that they just lumped in with the SH franchise, though I'm down for it 😁
This game is inspired by the book "house of leaves" a very pain in the ass book to understand but it's good? I kinda liked it and this game but I respect and appreciate your input bawk.
SH2 and SH4 are my favorites among the first four games. I love SH4 because it's extremely bizarre and unsettling... more than the others, in my opinion.
If there's one contentive that every fan has about this game is that it should have been a game on it's own, as it feels like a horror game with Silent Hill just slapped on it. While devs might say something different, we all know devs are born to sell illusions. It's part of the game industry.
I don't know if it was ever confirmed but I've heard several times that it started out early as a game called silent hill 302 and it was meant to be a branching game in the series not a main title but very early they changed it to become a main title so while technically it did have an early concept as a side game it was always meant to be a silent hill game in some form or another and it changed to a main title so fast almost nothing is known other then a vague outline of what 302 was about
This game is so much more fun to watch than it is to play.. so bad, it's still bad... but the vibe is there. I always got stuck in this game because this was before RUclips being what it is today.
All silent hill games are great though, I mean I don't get the hate just because they did it differently when they almost always do it different from 1 another except SH1 & SH3
PS2 version has better graphics (visual effects and textures) and superior sound quality, I suggest playing that over the PC port. You can use PCSX2 Nightly. The shadows on PC are broken too. Maybe the whole Eileen health thing is glitched on PC? She got possessed real fast. I never had that happen on emulator. And the "daaaaad" thing is actually a glitch that only happens on PC. See 6:13:50
I feel like people love Silent Hill 4 in spite of its gameplay, as it has genuinely great atmosphere, story and some iconic music. but yeah, in terms of gameplay...you already know
Objectively speaking, theres ZERO atmosphere in sh4 and adding more insult to the injury game has low level graphics and downgraded visuals. So every "appealing" feature/potential you saw or heard about this game was all wasted in the trailers and marketings that never saw the light of day at the final release
I don't mind this game. I share the same opinion as you bawk that It is better to watch than play lol. I like the story, however, I always got the feeling that this game tried to become another SH2/3, and what I mean by that is, they just took the same mechanics and gameplay of SH2 and 3 and just changed the plot and the graphics and the characters. They didnt really try anything new aside from first person perspective sometimes, Which I understand why they did this, it's just that I feel like they tried to force this one to be like 2 and 3, and forcing isn't good, because then you get bugs, unfinished areas or glitches enemies etc, plus it comes off as lazy imo, wanting a new game of the franchise to be like a previous game in the franchise. There's not many, but there are some, and the voice acting I could care less. That doesn't make or break a game for me. What makes or breaks a game for me is the gameplay and story. Graphics don't matter to me, voice acting doesn't matter to me. Look at resident evil for example. Now that game has fantastic gameplay imo, and has a great story, the voice acting is bad, but it's so bad that it's good, because if the gameplay and story sucked, the voice acting wouldn't be a so bad it's good scenario lol. Pun intended there. 😂✌️🤝✨️🐔
I just beat this recently as my friend watched but I’ll say I definitely liked this entry more than I thought based on what everyone already said about it. The one thing I will say for sure about this game is I HATE water world 😂😂😂
Not even close to the worst Silent Hill game, also not close to the best. Its middling at best. Origins ,Homecoming, Downpour, Shattered Memories, Book of Memories, Any of the mobile titles and the arcade and pachinko machines are worse than this.
I didn't like this game for a lot of reasons. Most of them have been talked to death. Klunky, hard to tell how to progress, backtracking, but the thing that drove me nuts the most is just how big a waste the entire premise of The Room was. Could have been a great chance for scares or creepy stuff. As it stands you pretty much have to get to the end of the game before anything interesting or creepy starts happening with it. Was severely underutilized. Wouldn't mind seeing someone take a re-make crack at it.
this title is wild to have in a video so recent lol. SH4 is simply in the same place as its tile is ,which is 4 to be fair . personally i thinks its better than the 1st one but clearly not better than the 3rd . people let nostalgia carry alot of weight lol . play all 4 back to back and trust me the originals have issues too lol
Lmfaoo he said the worst enemy designs in the series forgetting homecoming and shattered memories exist… i genuinely think people hate this game because of what others say ..also when he said the level design is bad you have to keep in mind that your going through someones dream/nightmare…so it focuses on the laws of the dream realm .. it’s not supposed to make sense .. and honestly feel like a dream when u play through it .. one thing this games does deserve criticism for is it’s controls they are pretty bad but overall. This game does not deserve that shit that it gets .. they undermined the games theme and call it bad game design..

Regardless - much love to you all ♥
Wow. I remember Bawk playing this years ago on Twitch. I can't believe there's finally SH4 gameplay with Bawk on RUclips. 🙌
Many people say it’s the worst silent hill, and I don’t think it deserves that title. It was clearly an experimental sort of game, and in my personal experience it made me feel much more anxious and frightened than any other game in the franchise
The flying zombies sound like the big jelly fish from spongebob
haha funny enough they are supposed to be ghosts haha .persona;;y i liked them
silent hill 4 control is so suck, but the story and the feeling of uneasy is on another level , i agree that how to enjoy this game is watching other people play it
No no no no no. The worst one is still Downpour.
The worst oneS are still all of the them from the west…and always will be…
It always hurts a little to see people regarding SH4 as a shit game. I think it's great. Actually my favorite SH, while all four are amazing.
you gotta be delusional if you think the room is worst than any of the non team silent ones lmao
A little late but the candles only heal Eileen temporarily, similar to the ampoules
So you should only heal her right before you pick up the umbilical cord
This was my 1st SH i played on PC, so many memories
I love those silent hill. it obviously has some major flaws, but the making of a great game is there. I absolutely agree that this game is best enjoyed by watching someone else play though. A remake could really rectify all the issues this game suffers from.
Bawk, how dare you call this the worst silent hill. This isn't memories or five.
This was the first ever silent hill I played on my ps2. I completed it though got the worst possible ending, I still enjoyed it. It does feel like a weird spin off from the series that they just lumped in with the SH franchise, though I'm down for it 😁
I grew up with 4 as my first Silent Hill so I love this game dearly. Regardless of burping monsters, ghosts, and pretty bad gameplay.
All these people arguing about silent hill homecoming and 4 being the worst games i miss when we had no idea ascention was a thing
Thanks for the vods
That's a funny way of spelling Homecoming XD
Ive has this game for many years on ps2 and still never beat it lmao. I got stuck on that sipral prison area with those annoying big head monsters.
If there's one contentive that every fan has about this game is that it should have been a game on it's own, as it feels like a horror game with Silent Hill just slapped on it. While devs might say something different, we all know devs are born to sell illusions. It's part of the game industry.
I don't know if it was ever confirmed but I've heard several times that it started out early as a game called silent hill 302 and it was meant to be a branching game in the series not a main title
but very early they changed it to become a main title so while technically it did have an early concept as a side game it was always meant to be a silent hill game in some form or another and it changed to a main title so fast almost nothing is known other then a vague outline of what 302 was about
I desagree because i really love that game, but I still give the man the like he deserves
See 6:13:50
U mean Silent Hill Downpour ? SH4 still and always be a good game
Was just watching the old twitch vod.
Wrong, Downpour is the worst on account of being so dreadfully boring.
Thought you meant downpour
i like this take by bawk. there are a lot of interesting ideas but interesting ideas dont make an interesting game
You mean the best?! Nah but it is my favorite. Not as good as 2 or 3 maybe but I love it.
Wait, this has a working pc port!!!! Unlike I certain homecoming that's not even playable.
My fave Silent Hill game by a mile. UwU Glad you got to finally experience it. ❤
NOT THE WORST :(
I just beat this recently as my friend watched but I’ll say I definitely liked this entry more than I thought based on what everyone already said about it. The one thing I will say for sure about this game is I HATE water world 😂😂😂
I can respect it not being your favorite. Mine personally are 1234
Calling it the worst Silent Hill is definitely a hot take.
You can't call this the worst one and tell me Downpour or Homecoming are better. The Room is flawed but still playable, the other 2 are barely that.
ahah. what a story bawk.
Oh hi bawk!
Silent Hill 4 is a masterpiece
Im 3 and a half hours in so far. You do end up using the swords of subjugation, right?
This is turning out to be the best bawktober, 😊
Downpour and homecoming are much worse entries
i have no idea wtf his objective is half the time, game is obtuse as fuck, 10/10 i will get a physical copy
I remember getting sh3 on my baday when it came out. Ur right wen u say was the last real banger in the series but i dnt hate any of em
This game is a lot like re0 in that the game is great in every way except the controls.
this title is wild to have in a video so recent lol.
I do prefer the story in this one over 3 but yea the backtracking wasn't a big issue... it was the apartment becoming a fucking enemy LOL
Nahh, Homecoming is worse than this LMAO
Downpour, Origins, Homecoming and book of memories are indeed all worse
@@Facidi Origins is still okay for me tbh
Can anyone explain to me what poggers mean? Never heard that till I started watching you years ago Bawk but keep forgetting to ask.
Ain't no way you called 4 the worst LMAOOOOOO bad take man
dude this is the best silent hill game in my opinion.
