British Rail recorded announcement - London Victoria - Portsmouth & Bognor (Control Room creation)

  • This is an announcement I created in the early 1990s using the London Victoria Control Room Ditra recorded announcement computer when I was trying to stay awake during a night shift. In reality during this era, all Portsmouth & Bognor Regis services were routed via Gatwick Airport.

    Fantastic ! I should've known my favourite station announcer ever would have a classical composer's surname ! Been trying to find out who he is for AGES. Brings back so many memories.

    Platform 12 for the 10:23 Portsmouth Harbour and Bognor Regis service.
    Calling at: Clapham Junction, Selhurst, West Croydon, Wallington, Sutton, Horsham, Christ's Hospital, fast to Pulborough, then Arundel, and Barnham, where the train will then divide. Please make sure you travel in the correct part of this train.
    Passengers for Chichester, Havant, Hilsea, Portsmouth & Southsea, and Portsmouth Harbour must travel in the front 10 coaches only furthest from the ticket barrier at platform 12.
    Passengers for Bognor Regis must travel in the rear 2 coaches only nearest to the ticket barrier at platform 12.
    Passengers for Christ's Hospital must travel in the front 4 coaches only.
    Passengers for Wandsworth Common should change at Clapham Junction.
    Passengers for Waddon and Carshalton Beeches should change at West Croydon
    Passengers for stations to Epsom Downs, also Cheam and Ewell East should change at Sutton.
    Passengers for Amberley should change at Horsham.
    Please note that this train will not call at Billingshurst.
    A buffet service is available on this train from Clapham Junction to Portsmouth Harbour.
    Platform 12 for the 10:23 Portsmouth Harbour and Bognor Regis service.

    Sutton going fast to Horsham was quite a long way they would've stopped at Epsom and Dorking too surely if it was real...

      It must have been a special service, because this ceased existing as a regular service in 1984 (and even then, off peak services hadn't existed since 1978). They probably had a requirement to make back some time by running fast under ancient and old fashioned rules.
