  • The All New Makita 36v 7-1/4" circular saw will cut up to 610 cross cuts on 2x4 and is all around and awesome saw, but there is one problem that I found with this saw that left me scratching my head.
    Buy here imp.i284638.net/NrPoV
    18V X2 LXT® Lithium-Ion (36V) Brushless Cordless 7-1/4” Circular Saw, Tool Only
Makita, a pioneer in Brushless Motor technology and battery innovation, combines both in the 18V X2 LXT® (36V) Lithium-Ion Brushless 7-1/4 In. circular saw (XSH06Z, tool only, batteries and charger sold separately). It's powered by two 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion batteries for maximum performance, and has an electronically-controlled BL™ Brushless Motor that matches torque and RPM to the application. Makita 18V X2 means freedom from the cord, even for demanding applications like cutting sheet and dimensional lumber that traditionally called for a corded saw. Best of all, users can remain in one battery platform, using the same fast-charging 18V batteries with the XSH06Z as they use across the expansive Makita 18V LXT® cordless tool system. The XSH06Z has a long list of features for efficient cutting without the cord. The electronically-controlled Brushless Motor delivers a full 6,000 RPM for efficient cutting, with Automatic Speed Change™ technology to adjust the cutting speed and torque under load for optimum performance. In internal testing, the XSH06Z made up to 600 cross-cuts per charge in 2 x 4 SPF lumber using two fully-charged 5.0 Ah batteries. Added features include a large 2-11/16 In. cutting capacity at 90 degrees, and an electric brake for maximum productivity. The saw has a die-cast magnesium base and blade guard with die-cast aluminum blade cover and motor housing, which combines durability with less weight (only 10.4 lbs. with batteries, sold separately). Added features include a built-in dust blower to clean the line-of-cut, and a built-in tether notch (tether sold separately). It’s part of Makita's expanding 18V Lithium-Ion system, the world’s largest cordless tool system powered by 18V Lithium-Ion slide-style batteries. Makita 18V Lithium-Ion batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger.
wered by two LXT® batteries; X2 LXT® technology delivers more power, speed and run time without the hassles of a cord
Compact and ergonomic design at only 13-1/2" long
Weighs only 10.5 lbs. with batteries (batteries not included) for operator comfort
Extreme protection technology (XPT™) is engineered for improved dust and water resistance for operation in harsh conditions
Rubberized soft grip handle provides increased comfort on the job
3-stage L.E.D. gauges indicate battery charge levels
    On-board blade wrench for convenience
Flat motor housing design for stability when changing the blade
Built-in dust blower cleans the line of cut for operator accuracy
Built-in tether notch (tether sold separately)
Dual L.E.D. lights illuminate the work area
Makita built electronically controlled BL™ Motor delivers 6,000 RPM for maximum performance and 50% longer run time per charge
Ideal for framers, builders, roofers, forming, and more
Equipped with Star Protection Computer Controls™ to protect against overloading, over-discharging and over-heating
Rapid Optimum Charger communicates with the battery's built-in chip throughout the charging process to optimize battery life by actively controlling current, voltage and temperature (battery and charger sold separately)
The BL™ Brushless Motor eliminates carbon brushes, enabling the BL™ Motor to run cooler and more efficiently for longer life

Just recently bought this saw, as in yesterday. Transitioning over from rigid line since Home Depot will no longer replace in store anymore. That takes the allure of rigid away for me. I have yet to use this saw for more than a couple of hours but noticed no such issue with the blade guard. I can say it blows away my older rigid octane tools. I use a deWalt corded saw at my saw station while building. I can say that I’m very confident this can fully replace my corded saw station.

After using and liking Makita corded saws for decades, I wanted to get on the Makita cordless platform but I didn't like the scrunched up feeling of this saw and the view down the left side of the blade was abysmal which as a carpenter is important , I went with Dewalt Flexvolt and am very pleased.

I noticed that when the blade guard did not retract correctly in your example video, you had the front portion of the shoe above the workpiece and the center of the shoes on the corner of the workpiece. You may want to try placing the shoe squarely (flush) on the upper side of the worpiece, which should improve the geometry of the guard / wood contact, making it retract better?

File or grind the end of the blade guard at a closer to 90 degree angle or behind the blade there is a blade guard stop that you can shim by wrapping it with something to back off the guard just slightly allowing it to engage the wood smoothly.

Darn, just bought this Makita yesterday, Home Depot was out of stock, they are delivering it in 2 days. Very concerned about the blade guard. I have mostly Makita tools so I can interchange batteries. To me, Makita tools have always been most dependable. In process of switching from corded to cordless. Paid $349 for saw, blade, 2 x 5 AH batteries + 2 port rapid charger. Price wasn’t my concern, usability is. Did I make a mistake? What do you recommend instead of the Makita? I am farmer/rancher, not a lot of fine finished carpentry...fences, gates, rough carpentry

  • @starseeddeluxe

Great video! And I love the attention to detail in this review. I will say, it's not difficult for a right handed person to use a right blade saw. They are not any different than a left blade saw. You can see the blade the same as you can on a left blade saw, because the blade is clearly visible at all times, from either side of the saw. They don't block the view of the blade, just because the blade is on the right side. The reason you use a right blade saw is not because it's supposed to be better. It's because there is no dust with a right blade saw. Also, observe the motor and shoe; it is supported properly on a right blade saw, but not on a left blade saw unless you're using the left blade saw with your left hand. A right blade saw, should be used with your right hand, and the blade should face away from your body--this allows all of the dust to shoot away from your body (see 6:30). A left blade (Worm Drive) saw, operated with your right hand, blows dust in your mouth.

Professional contractor, looking to replace my 18v brushed 6.5 makita, bought this 36v 7.25 saw. I hate it. The guard stops me from making straight cuts, then once engaged it snags on anything and locks up, its absolutely unusable. I went back to my tried and tested 6.25 makita. I can still cut 2x12 laminated lvl with the right blade. Only thing that helped for the 36v saw was adjusting the cutting depth, so then whats the point of the bigger blade if you cut shallower? Too bad because this thing has power. Dont tell me i have to adjust the guard depending on thickness, big waste of time.

DeWalt doesn't have the blade guard issue that Makita has. That's a nice saw but the DeWalt is just as nice

Most makita circular saws need to be set to the appropriate depth of cut to make the blade guard work well. Also a good safety standard to have your cut depth set for the material at hand.

Nice saw. I know you get 36v from to 18v batteries so you don't have to buy different batteries to go back and forth from 18v to 36v. I just don't like using 2 batteries on a tool. Makita makes good tools and this is no disappointment. Great review. Glad that there was no problem with the darn angry Makita Gnome.

Reasons why they make the dual charger but would definitely love to see some higher amp-hour 18v batteries in the future tho

DeWalt has a better electronic brake on their saws than that Makita. That being said that's a nice saw there

Blade guard is due to not setting blade depth... simple issue, really not an issue.

You can see that the "kick" problem is to do with the geometry of the guard. You can see that it is square on to the work piece. It needs to slightly slope down and forwards. And for first contact to be as low as possible (so that it is off-axis, as much as possible, with the centre of the blade). It's a rooky mistake by the designer. Hopefully they will fix this with the next version.

It's by design its even mentioned in the manual. It's to try to get people to set depth correctly.

You keep saying you prefer a left sided blade because your right handed but I'm right handed and prefer a right sided blade..... I don't think your handiness has anything to do with it.

The guard doesn't stand a chance of lifting. I want this saw,, but thats fucked. Maybe theres a diy version to cut the guard back. The makita one doesn't even have a chance because of the angle the guard is pushed into the material rather than away.
    Not a fucking chance

Adjust the blade so its just coming through the wood and that should be better. You have the blade set too deep
