    Hey man, check R215 next to GS9216, it should be a 0 ohm resistor, but i bet its blowed out. Most of the time if a GS9216 dies it burns out the 0 ohm resistor next to it on the 12V input rail.
    Also yes, plug them power cables in as it mentioned below by some good-eyed mate :D

    Your story about the locksmith reminded me of this story, Author unknown.
    The Consultant Engineer
    There was an engineer who had an exceptional gift for fixing all mechanical things. After serving his company loyally for over 30 years, he happily retired. Several years later his company contacted him regarding a seemingly impossible problem they were having with one of their multi-million dollar machines. They had tried everything and everyone else to get the machine fixed, but to no avail. In desperation, they called on the retired engineer who had solved so many of their problems in the past.
    The engineer reluctantly took the challenge. He spent a day studying the huge machine. At the end of the day he marked a small X in chalk on a particular component of the machine and proudly stated, 'This is where your problem is!' The part was replaced and the machine worked perfectly again.
    The company received a bill for $50,000 from the engineer for his services. They demanded an itemized accounting of his charges. The engineer responded briefly:
    One chalk mark .. ..... ..... $1
    Knowing where to put it ..... $49,999

    No way a previous Overclock would cause a failure like this. The card would crash or shutdown if anything at first. Just another case of poor quality IC manufacturing. Seems like there has been some issues with moisture and poor quality ingredients in the last 2 years when it comes to making passive and active components.

    • @bdogsp0012
      @bdogsp0012 Год назад +4

      True. All my gpus that oc always crashed and restarted if the current settings didn’t work. I have an msi rx 5600 xt that would crash on me because the dang thing turn its fans on automatically when the temperature rose. I would get coloured dots on my screen and then my computer would crash. I had to use a fan control speed software to manually turn the fans on.

      Wrong. Literally thousands of these cards get pumped out and sold and you only hear about the few that popped we dont hear about all the nice working cards of course, sound like a normal failure rate to me.
      You also have to remember the amout of people that pair these high performing cards with $20 psu's

      overclocks also don't transfer so easily from one card to another, unless it is the same model which uses the same software. In any way even if, the cards have a power limit (which you can set and on hardware level) and the Gigabyte Software (AORUS Engine) is foolproof the most you can cause is a system crash and be back to where you startet, no non-invasive overclock can cook a board component like that. Most likely as you said a poor quality component

    • @OnYourSquare
      @OnYourSquare Год назад

      What? Overclocking destroys GPU's. Especially if the card has a low air flow fan. The card cannot dissipate the additional heat.
      Cards crash during overclocking because the current being supplied to the GPU is insufficient. The GPU stalls.
      That card uses smart power stages instead of MOSFETs. Each has it's own built in current monitor. It design to protect the GPU. They are designed to fail in a manner that does not bridge the 12v to the GPU.
      The component did it's job.

    Your overclocking (oc) that you had on your old graphics card cannot destroy your new card! The only things that can happen is that the PC shuts down or freezes the computer, after a restart everything works again. However, if you continue to use your old oc, the computer will freeze again.

    You can also look at the opposite side of the locksmith example, say the locksmiths job was more difficult than he quoted and it took 1 or 2 days to do the job, the customer is not going to say please charge me more because the job was worse than we expected, they will still pay just the original quoted amount

    I happen to be an automotive locksmith. Whenever I have a cash call on a lockout I ask the customer " I know you think this expensive so I can pretend it's really hard and take a long time to open your car or I can open it in 10 seconds. tell me which you prefer" Never had one to tell me to take longer. When they ask for a discount I always say sure but ask them to do me one favor. Call my bank and ask whatever amount they wanted discounted to see if the bank will deduct that off my mortgage and if the bank agrees I will give them a discount. Nobody ever got a discount.
    When I first started and didn't know any better I would barter with people. Either do something at no charge or just charge my cost for a favor or service for me in the future. NEVER ONCE did any of those "favors" ever come to fruition. I stopped that nonsense a long time ago. I tell them you pay my price and if and when I need you I will be happy to pay your price.

    When a chip fails like this, chances are the cause is not the chip itself but an event that caused the chip to blow.

    • @OnYourSquare
      @OnYourSquare Год назад +4

      It's the opposite. The chip itself fails. Power stages are built to fail-safe. They contain their own Over current and over voltage monitoring circuitry.
      It destroys itself in an effort not to bridge the 12v directly to the GPU.

    Paid a locksmith $250 for a simple lockout, watched him fumble with it 10-20 minutes, before telling me he had to drill it. I said no, and he managed to pry the door open. He never even tried to pick or bump the lock. That $250 wasn't wasted; he did get me back into my apartment but with zero finesse or skill. That whole experience led me to keep a spare key in my shoe and to learn to pick locks. I would've been happy to pay a pro $250 to pop the door open in 30 seconds. I value expertise but this was just disappointing.

    Is it possible that the chip could fix the problem - if less solder was used on the large pads underneath it? I totally love your channel but I often think when solder bulges out of the package when pushed downwards, there's a chance those 2 large pads underneath may join up something on the underside. Please dont take this as an offensive comment - just a suggestion, and that might not be the problem because as we all know - the flux will generally stop bridges like that (but not always).

    • @Mueller3D

    Normally there's a reason why a chip failed in such a smoky way, especially if it's a buck convertor. I'd assume it was overloaded, possibly due to a short on the power line it's supplying, or by something else that failed. Also, if a buck converter fails, what can happen is that it can short the internal switching element, and put the input voltage of the buck converter on the output directly. That means half the board could have gotten fried in the process, or at least everything that this chip was supplying. It was probably a good idea to check for shorts after removing the chip.

    You pay for knowledge not for time, the times people pay little money and you spending 6 a 8 hours of figuring it out and getting the knowledge, that’s what you are paying for so you don’t have to wait the 6 a 8 hours.

    8:15 yep. can relate. i do cad drawings. same drawing that average cad designer takes 40min, 3-4hrs for beginners, i can finish it in 10-15mins but i hand to them later after couple of hrs. why? because clients are complaining i charged them too high for a 10min job. many times i've explained to them my skill is the result from thousands of hours of experience. didn't work. they left with sour face.
    somewhat dishonest, i take that. but it had to be that way.

    Senior in my industry told me a very similar story but when confronted about the time spent, he said that it's taken him 20-something years to be able to produce a commission like this under 30 minutes. The client apparently didn't feel cheated after that..

    In the mechanical industry we are always being hammered with the "you only spent 20 minute's to find what's wrong with my car so why do I have to pay it's not like you even done anything anyway".....
    Oh yeah sure I only spent 2-3 times the amount of your vehicle's value just on tools alone not to mention the years and years worth of experience and education and service manuals and so on. It drives me insane when people just assume you're time and expertise is worth nothing.
