No this was from the musical tribute called Hey! Mr. Producer the musical world of Cameron Mackintosh. I have seen it twice on VHS and many times on TV... This is what made me beg my mother and father to take me to see The Phantom of the Opera when I was 10! Thank you, Cameron Mackintosh for inspiring me to see your awesome musicals live on tour here in the USA plenty of times!!!! The Phantom of the Opera is my favorite musical and favorite horror story dating back from when I was a kid.
Actually, In Leroux's novel Erik goes up to the surface occasionally to purchase necessities. He does this in the book by use of a prosthetic nose (he has no nose in the novel), and I imagine his hat and some sort of scarf.
That male singer was every bit as good to my ear as legendary Michael Crawford or Anthony Warlow ... he was simply ... outrageously fabulous, vocally as well as theatrically ... (needless to say the woman's voice was divine, too). By the way, he did not sing the scripted "be" in that power note, for God's sake, people, let him do it his uniquely signature way. It's people like him who keep us wannabe singers humble. Standing ovation.
@swva7956 go onto karaoke version, there's one on there, but you will somehow have to cut it down, itunes can do that. Or type in Vienna Symphony Orchestra Project to itunes and that's a good track to, but again you will have to cut it down :)
Guy swapped the vowels on the high note from "be," to "bay" otherwise splenderous. The girl especially has an Amazing voice, that was some high note she hit! The guy had great vibrato, and control of volume.
I love Colm Wilkinson but sometimes it's distracting watching him sing with that thing he does with his lips.....like he lets it be well known that he has lips.
That's how real singing is done, It's to ensure every vowel and consonant are delivered correctly, It's not always the most pleasant thing to watch but at the end of the day you are there for the music not the people.
That's not very accurate though. Yes he never left the opera but he stole so many things from others in the theater and made many things himself. I'm pretty sure he would steal a blade to shave himself over the course of his years there...
Nothing quite beats this classic. The imagery and performance is so enchanting and beautiful.
how is this not the top hit on a search, best ever.
La mejor interpretacion .....gracias por compartir

my idea of a phantom is not a very old man, but still what an awesome voice!
Colm Wilkinson is my spirit animal

Where the crap did that high note come from? It doesnt fit his voice at all!
Ew the phantom with a BEARD? Hell no! Btw, she has a GREAT voice for this.
