- THOUGHTS on Psalm 150:
The word Hallelujah simply means "Praise the LORD". This one verse from Psalm 150, after listing every instrument that should make noise, closes by also commanding everything with BREATH to praise the LORD as well.
In 2 Chronicles 20, a vast enemy army approached Jerusalem, and King Jehoshaphat offered a prayer of petition to the LORD, closing it by confessing, "We don't know what to do, but our eyes are on You." God assured them of victory and they worshipped in response. The next day, Jehoshaphat...
"...appointed men to sing to the LORD and to praise Him for the splendor of His holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying: “Give thanks to the LORD, for His love endures forever.” As they began to sing and praise, the LORD set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated."
PRAISING is often the last thing we think about when we face opposition. But it very well may be the most powerful. Praising the LORD acknowledges His greatness, His supremacy, His omnipotence, His majesty, His steadfast love... which He is worthy of, regardless our circumstance.

STORY BEHIND THE SONG:
...about 10 years ago, I was a part of a community who worshiped monthly in the Taize tradition: singing simple melodies, with simple instrumentation, combined with words of worship on repeat, sung over and over until their truth eventually sunk in. One afternoon in the summer of 2021, I sat down at my piano and attempted to sing these words in that very style.
While some debate the proper pronunciation of my Hebrew, I can testify that I carefully referenced a Jewish Rabbi (of blessed memory) who has quoted the entire Hebrew Scriptures and made it available online.

I am a worship leader and have been leading this in my small church for about a month. I asked a friend who teaches Hebrew at the local university to translate the second verse for me. She said it can be translated:
1. "she will praise" (future)/
2. "she shall praise" (as "language of the law"- a command forevermore)/
3. "she praises" (habitually)
4. "may/let her praise" (as a jussive, expressing a wish/desire)
(The "she" refers to the feminine noun for breath...)
After my friend sent me this it made me think of the Bride of Christ and how all those above statements are simultaneously true! Praise the Lord!
