Great work! You got me thinking -
Back in the day my dad showed me something cool. I don't know if they still make the stuff. But it would pull the ink out of the paper and you could transfer it to another surface- the surface had to be white or black. I'm going on memory and at my age that's not too reliable 😂 I know it worked on metal (not sure about other material) because we use to customize cars back in the 80's.

They do make a water proof Mod Podge. Needs about 2 to 3 coats, let dry between coats. Then let dry for 24 hours. Don't know how it'll hold up on shoes, but try and see what happens.
