      This faded Pelham Blue looks great, and looks OK with those clear control knobs (not so good on the other colours). The Burgundy one looks good, maybe a bit too 'sparkly'. I just don't get the other colours - Caffe Latte Fade/Magma Orange Fade/Carribbean Blue Fade 🤔.

    That is what you call a "forever guitar," not a "backup guitar," in my not-so-humble opinion. Seriously, I've had it (in graphite black) for about 10 months and I'm already toying with a fret job. Yep, I've played it that much. The damned thing has fused with my hands. Covid downtime has been a real boon for my playing. In 60 years of playing, I've never enjoyed a guitar more. In fact, I may never leave my home again.

    Awesome vid! Killer guitar. And killer playing, Brother! I really like your stylings and phrasing, and just the way you play that thing. Subbing you now. And I've just recently discovered these LP Moderns. Wow. On my list right now, for sure! They seem like amazing guitars. I love this one, and the sparkling red.

    Recently bought one of these myself. Great value.
    On the setup point, I’ve never bought a guitar that hasn’t needed one. I always factor in £100 to get a fret level and setup done on any guitar I buy.

      @@benallmark9671 Pretty sure it's just 3 of them. This guitar is on my list, and I've been checking it out. Don't have it yet. But I thin the 2 volume pots split (each) Humbucker... for those split-coil sounds. And then one tone control takes the pickups out of phase. Totally cool functionality. Don't know how much I would use it. But very cool versatility. I want one soon. Can't decide between this one and the sparkle red. Both gorgeous guitars!

    The binding on the Gibson version is the same as this. Which actually is better. That binding your referring to doesn’t cover the end of the fret. It’s a separate piece and as a guitar tech I’ve seen it 1000 times where the fret end and that binding has a gap where the string can get caught in. It looks great but is a horrible design and I’m so happy the modern frets go right to the end. Just grabbed one on sale this week. It’s a beauty.

    I love mine, very well equipped guitar for the money. However, it was barely playable out of the box due to a shockingly bad factory setup.
    Invested in some tools and time to do a full fret job and now it plays perfectly.
    It appears Epiphone just hammer frets in and send them out; budget for a fret job and if possible view a few in person as the quality of the ~3 piece bodies varies A LOT.

      Thankyou! & yes this is more than just a backup guitar. It became my new main for my summer gigs. It’s currently being fixed as the pots have worn out & the sound was becoming very inconsistent

    • @maekong2010
      @maekong2010 Год назад

      @@RobGalley I guess we're in agreement then. It's interesting that you mentioned unstable tone issues that you've attributed to pots. I think I know what you're talking about. My first take on it was the 3-way switch, because it seemed if I futzed with it enough, it would come back and stabilize (the problem seemed to affect only the neck pickup - which of course has implications for the middle position) and the only position that seemed not to be affected was the bridge. It was consistently stable. So, like you, I am at the second link in the chain (the neck position push-pull pot). Well, I haven't had a chance to test it yet, but at the end of my last session, I rather than futz with the switch and push-pull pot, I pulled my cable from the input jack and replaced it. Instant stability which lasted for hours, no matter what I did with the pots or 3-way. I just haven't had time to play since, so I can't say if I'm on to something. But I might be, even though it would seemingly make no sense. But there are so many phantom electronics bugaboos in the universe that sometime the most spurious-seeming answer winds up being correct. So you might want to take a look at that possibility before you start ripping out high-dollar components that are not prone to failure (being that our guitars are using genuine CTS pots). I actually got another indication very early on that the problem was related to the jack, as I thought it was a cable problem. When I switched cables, the problem seemed to evaporate - that, however, was short lived. But in retrospect, that alone indicated the jack - which is almost always the weakest link in the chain. I feel like a fool for having forgotten that until now.

    • @maekong2010
      @maekong2010 Год назад

      @@RobGalley Scratch the input jack. No relationship whatsoever. Back to the neck position volume pot. I am wondering if there is a way to address it with contact cleaner, but I suspect not. I am able to temporarily remedy it by pulling it out and then popping it back in “authoritatively,” though not with 1 to 1 reliability. Regardless, the status quo isn’t acceptable. This is a situation where living in the third world is not advantageous. Not exactly a haven for warranties. I will probably have to pony up for a new pot, though maybe not.

    Hi Rob, I am looking at purchasing this guitar as it is much lighter than the Traditional Les Paul which makes it more appealing, I also like the extras like the Push & Pull Tone and Volume Knobs and especially the Grover Lock Tuners.. The new Pick Ups also are appealing. I came across your review & demo as being the best out of the others. I have a couple of EPIPHONES already which are really good and just wanted to get a Les Paul Epi.. Your Review & Demo is excellent. Strings are they 10's? as I have them on my Epi 335.
