  • Have you ever thought about what you would do if your anesthesia machine stopped working? You never know what's going to happens. Hospital power could go out, a faulty machine, etc... you don't want it to happen but it could.

    OMG! This story revved up my SNS! LOL I had a machine go down on me and your story brought me back to an experience I had! My machine check was fine in the morning. Into my third of five pedi dental cases, my machine stopped delivering volumes, and I got crazy errors that I, my CRNA covering me at the time, and my attending never saw before! We converted to TIVA and my patient started to slowly wake up and bronchospasmed! Hot mess! But the case ended up going well and the kid was fine! So the doom and gloom they teach us isn't urban legends like you experienced too! Always gotta be ready and a step ahead!

    Random question!! Would you recommend going to a “name recognized” crna school with the hpsp or recommend USUHS? I’m not sure which route would be better if I wasn’t sure I wanted to stay in for 20 years :)

    Would you have been able to use a regular vent with iv sedation? If that were available?

      What do you mean regular vent? Like one in the ICU?

    I have a question. What do you THINK the chances of someone to be considered for an anesthesia program, if they failed a class in nursing school?

    • @willedwards6185
      @willedwards6185 4 года назад +3

      Hey Practical Nurse Jays, I can answer that. I'm soon to take my CRNA boards and I actually failed one semester of nursing. Without going into details of why, my suggestion would be that whoever is in this position should make sure afterwards his/her GPA is SOLID before applying to CRNA school. Beyond that, get great ICU experience at a Level I or Level II trauma hospital taking care of really sick patients, and overall, either take a graduate course or two (organic chemistry or pharmacology), and/or get a certification that is different (like PICC line insertion or anything interesting) that sets said individual apart from other applicants. Despite my failure in one class, I excelled and I'm graduating with my doctorate degree and with high honors! It can be done!
