    Young people may say Michael Jackson is the King of Pop. Fair enough. *But Elvis WAS the King* I'm 64 and Elvis' career *Began before I was born* . I don't even follow his early songs too much but I know that he could dance better than anyone with those swivel hips. 1.) First, what bothers me is people *who gave NO IDEA of how many genres he sang and got gold records in* . His only Grammy was for his GOSPEL SINGING. (Try that Michael) Also decades of his performing years. 2.) Second, reacting to "In the Ghetto" and *ignorantly* saying "what would Elvis know about ghetto"? Hey, would a five Google search hurt?
    Speaking of Google try this, look up *shotgun shack* because this is where Elvis was born and raised in. There were two rooms and Elvis only had one pair of shoes. He knew hunger a lot of days. Elvis frequently crossed the tracks and went to black churches as he LOVED to sing Gospel. Here is a church of black people and one small, skinny white boy in the back.
    He is the Hall of Fame for: Rock, Gospel, Country, and Rockabilly. Elvis sang *682* songs.
    He did NOT take illegal drugs, it was those damn legal drugs from his Dr. Feelgood.
    I'm not too fond of people who make fun of him because they only know "Don't Step on My Blue Suede Shoes". And the last years of his life where he had gained a lot of weight. Elvis was human
    Yes, Elvis did drink occasionally but never a lot. Peach brandy binge nearly killed him and that was that. He just thought it tasted good. Down but not out.
    Give the man some respect.
    Lastly, he was *never* racist. Every woman in his back ground singers have said that Elvis was a *gentleman* and also people already know how generous he was.
    Cissy Houston from the Sweet Inspirations (his female back up singers) had Oprah take a tour of her home. And there on display in a velvet, lighted cabinet was a shiny thick gold bracelet. She told Oprah said that she would cherish this as a memory. She took it out and on the inside was an inscription of Squirrelly. "That was his nickname for me".

    Elvis said he was more nervous then ever about this performance. He signed a movie contract some years before so he did movies and hadn't been up close with a live audience for about 10 years at this time. We tend to take things for granted but imagine Elvis performing 5 feet from a group of fans, the pressure would have been very real for Elvis or anyone of his status. On a huge stage he's 50 to 100 meters give or take from the people, but here everyone could see up his nostrils right up to the brylcreem soaking thru his scalp.

    We had three television stations ABC NBC and CBS and a Spanish channel I was 12 in 1968 I watched this with my mom and dad remember this was a comeback special he was tripping didn't think he was good enough when I was eight I played an old album my mom had and Elvis album I was born in 1956 he was hitting it in 1955 I saw a lot of his movies because they were on TV or at the movies. True story he was a twin his brother died at birth, I got to see him in 1972 he blew my mind my mom dragged me to the concert I was 16 I did not want to go he blew my mind I must say again his charisma his voice and most of all his energy spread out among the auditorium still the best concert I've been to The best talent I've ever seen when he passed in 75 I was 19 in 1980 John Lennon passed those were the only two times I can remember the whole country got together and stopped and paid tribute to the death or passing of a musician, that being said I never got to see John Lennon but I got to see Elvis and guess what Lennon has stated Elvis was his musical hero also so what does that say ! God bless

    I had never believed it when my professor in college, both a musicologist and professional symphony musician, himself, told me that he viewed Elvis Presley to be the greatest overall singer of all time. "Why?," "What the hell?," so many of us said? With him first going on to ask what's Frank Sinatra's greatest and/or signature song? "My Way," someone eventually said and then the professor proceeded to show us various polls from over the years which listed Sinatra as the greatest singer ever. Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin were also on top of some, and Elvis, too, on a few. But the point of the exercise was to simply show us Sinatra was considered by many, though it's subjective, to be the greatest.
    The class then listened to Sinatra's "My Way," and then Elvis' version, back to back. With the room being roughly split as to whose version was better, "which proved what I thought?" But then the professor showed us Elvis rocking out to 'Trying to Get to You' from the Elvis 1968 Comeback Special. With the point ultimately being that regardless of whose version of 'My Way" you preferred, Elvis was right there, totally at home playing in Sinatra's backyard for lack of better parlance.
    But as to Sinatra playing in Elvis' backyard, he said, it couldn't be done, as he said "[i]magine Sinatra, (who he totally loved) trying to do that rock number?" Then going on to say that he had found no singer who had ever sang more genres, more majestically, than Elvis, & he challenged us to find out for ourselves by looking at his full catalogue of Rock, Pop, Soul, Country, Ballads, Gospel and more.
    And, when done, I admit I became a convert who was so, so doubtful, at first, I can't even begin to tell you. But from rocking out to 'Trying to Get to You' from that Elvis 1968 Comeback Special, to singing about the dream of humanity coming together with "If I Can Dream," from the same show, I believe you will see what I mean. Elvis even had a voice that could be operatic if you go and listen to 'Hurt' and his version of "You'll Never Walk Alone" will tell you why he has also sold more gospel records than anyone, as well as just tons more, overall. But, with pop and 'Such A Night' to a ballad such as 'They Remind Me Too Much of You,' he did it all, and so, so damn well. While for soul, check out 'Long Black Limousine' or 'You're Wearin' That Loved on Look' which is a bit of another number. Because as Elvis' one album cover says, there's 'Something for Everybody.'
    Also, and if ultimately you don't think Elvis is the best, that's totally cool as there really is something for everyone!;-) Great channel and I wish you the best!!! ~ Christopher Tyler
    P.S. Those recommendations are only, quite literally, the beginning!

    • @103mrg
      @103mrg 2 месяца назад

      christopher Although I don't like to use terms like "the greatest" or "the best", I agree with your thesis of there being "no singer who had ever sang more genres, more majestically, than Elvis". I don't know if you've heard of Angelina Jordan, she's only 18, from Norway. If you haven't, you'll discover a musical genius that "before she is done", is sure to be as equally impressive as Elvis, vocally and in her soaring versatility. (Please feel free to ask if you need recommendations!)

    What a fun and hormonal reaction to Elvis in that black leather! He looked hot, right? Well you've joined a line of admirers that dates back to 1968 when this show premiered.
    The 68 Comeback Special is a superb showcase of this man's phenomenal talent and career which spanned 1954-1977 and included just about every popular music genre ranging from rock 'n' roll and gospel to country, blues and soul.
    Elvis was gifted with a beautiful voice and a beautiful face and, as you can see, a beautiful smile. I hope you will continue reacting to him as it's great to see younger people appreciating the greats.

    • @jimmiefatel774
      @jimmiefatel774 3 года назад

      @@jonmarretta2459 My mom's friend was the president of the local Elvis fanclub, I barely remember him saying something but from I remember whoever he was talking about was really Big so he takes me and him to Selland Arena. Elvis starts doing his moves and I'm mimicking him and he was kinda tripping then Red and Joe Esposito said "Hey E I bet he's Jesse Garon that's why he can do your moves." So Elvis looks at me and says to me that me and him (Elvis) are Brothers and that I'm really Jesse Garon reborn or reincarnated (I'm Mexican American, he knows but doesn't care) so after that Elvis would fly me out to Graceland Easter vacation and summers to play with Satlyn, the first time it was with Red then Verne (2-3x)then the other times it's his step brother the one with the long hair, he always had a toothpick in his mouth. I was the little boy he wanted to adopt. It's a trip when I hear some Elvis documentary where the people who stayed at the house talk about me. The little boy who got scolded for dropping my banana peal or peach pit on the floor is me. I was confused cause Elvis told me when me and him were eating fruit he said just drop it don't worry about it, but with everyone else I got scolded, then one time Elvis and me are standing next to each other so I (I was kinda nervous) dropped the I think it was a peach or a nectarine, then they were saying something to me, then Elvis said don't tell him anything then he turned and walked down the hallway(everyone was taken back)the one with his gold records on the wall. I remember he would take me to the hallway and show me his records. He was proud of them. I'm hoping enough people will cause a buzz so 20/20 or 60 minutes will interview and conduct investigative journalism, I think it would be cool to talk to Reacters.

    Must check out his 50s stuff. Then the 60s movie stuff. This was his big "comeback" year to doing live shows again. After this check out early 70s live performances. So many songs!! He is the GOAT!!! Enjoy your journey! ✌️❤️😊🎶

    Elvis could put some real gawumpf into a song and turn it from a simple melody into a brooding sexual knicker wetting classic that would more than stand the test of time and has yet to be bettered. This is one of my all time faves from the King. Jeesh wish I had a tenth of what Elvis had, great reaction vid. Try Elvis`s King Creole

    In The Ghetto and If I Can Dream gets to his more serious music, which was socially unacceptable at the time in the US.. a time when racism and human rights abuses peaked. Elvis was a force of good, using his platform to ask for peace and justice. The latter song was his personal tribute to the Kennedies and MLK who were all assassinated in the 1960s decade. Look for Elvis in a white suit for teh MLK tribute. Naturally this music still is relatable today and is among his greatest performances.
