    We must know by now that Ohtani hardly make any kind of statements that casually.
    One thing the US still doesn’t get is that Ohtani was and is always a special player and a big celebrity. He was never open to media while playing in Japan though they had always chased him since he was in junior high.
    He would not speak to media unlike other “regular” players, his family was never in media talking about him or accepting interviews.

    • @mirikaku5811
      @mirikaku5811 6 месяцев назад +6

      But Ohtani has spoken a lot and participated in variety shows, charity shows, gameshows, enough to fill the internet. It’s just Americans never google or search in RUclips or check the account of Shobaes in Social media. There is a lazy conformity to assume based on own narrative common with American professional athletes with more opinionated characteristics.
      Compare to Trout, Shohei have done a lot of appearances in his first 5 years in Japan enough to understand what he thinks and likes and dislike. There are subtitles use them!

      From watching Angels games, and looking at the advertising at the stadium, it occurred to me that they might not have been able to trade him. The place was covered in foreign sponsors. If I was them, an assurance he would be there for the year would have been paramount. I saw/and read that as soon as he ended the season, the Japanese TV stations stopped broadcasting the games.

    Why is it all you media types ONLY look at Shoei as a pitcher and hitter only. Mostly POWER only, rather than his finesse and baseball intelligence. He is probably one of the best base runners, including his various methods of old school sliding. He could teach a lot of MLB
    players some finer details of the game. By the way he has a way of humbleness and respect for others is very uncommon with other sports stars. A great human being.

    nobody is talking about the consensus coming out of Japan that Ohtani would not go to Seattle because of Ichiro. People should consider that in Japanese culture respect is everything - Ichiro is a baseball god in Japan and Ohtani grew up idolizing him. If Ohtani went to Seattle he could, and likely would, overshadow Ichiro's legacy there, and it makes sense to me that Ohtani would never do anything that in his culture would be considered disrespectful to Ichiro.

      @@tryonehill2372 I thought about that exact scenario - that it's the only way Ohtani might do it - maybe it could happen but I doubt it for 2 reasons: In the reverse context I don't think Ichiro would use his influence to sway Ohtani's big career decision, and even if he did Ohtani still might decline because he knows he would overshadow Ichiro in Seattle.

    As a Rangers fan, I would rather re-sign Jankowski and give him a full year at the DH/OF role. With Wyatt Lankford coming up, it is risky to jam up the DH role with a 50 million a year guy. It is, quite frankly, stupid. All it takes is a strained UCL and Seager, Simien, or Garcia are a DH only. Now what are you going to do with Ohtani AND any of those guys who can hit, but cannot throw? It is just an irrational signing for the Rangers. Go with a cheaper DH option till Lankford comes up.

      @@kbso6303 I see your point and appreciate how well written your response is but the facts are, no human is worth, on the field, what Ohtani will get. Let alone a DH. The Rangers owner has indicated he is more about winning, at this late stage in his life, than money. That said, Ohtani does not make sense. If the owner cared more about making money, perhaps it makes sense. At this point though, I do not see how overpaying a hitter only, to tie your manager's hands when writing the lineup card makes a team better. I understand Ohtani wants to win but he is not worth the price tag he will bring.

  • @chilltownallstar
    @chilltownallstar 6 месяцев назад +13

    It’s so frustrating listening to these ppl talk about Ohtani like there’s some type of question mark on him cuz of pitching. First of all, Ohtani isn’t your normal athlete, he’s a well conditioned athlete and pitching is a part of who he is. He has come back from the first surgery a BETTER pitcher.
    Second, his salary will be paid for 100x over, the amount of money he brings in is ridiculous and no player even comes close. He’s a guaranteed money maker and 700mil is still a steal considering g how much revenue he brings in regardless of whether he pitches or not.
    Ohtani is worth way more than 700 million and he will be back as a starting pitcher and he will be a better pitcher than before.

      I don't think past performance is indicative of future performance. Ohtani is absolutely great, maybe the greatest talent in the history of MLB. But father time is undefeated. Ohtani will be 30 next year. Each year the risk of ineffectiveness and injury goes up. It's not if, but when. We've seen great players like Griffey and Trout hit a wall in this age range. Ohtani will be worth the money, whatever he gets, to somone. But that might create payroll restraints even if he gains money for the club tangentially.

    • @chilltownallstar
      @chilltownallstar 6 месяцев назад

      @@LDQBBQ past performances could sometimes dictate a players performance and yes father time is undefeated but work ethic, dedication and determination should always imo. No one athlete I believe works harder and is more determined to be successful than Shohei, he’s gunning for all the trophies as u can tell with his MVP statement. Even MJ took time out to go to the casino. Baseball IS the casino for Shohei. This guy has already defied reality so I’m never going to doubt him or his abilities. Plus he has a whole country that will throw money at whatever team he plays for. That revenue should be used to build a winner around him. That was the problem with the Angels, they milked him and were too cheap to put a monster team around him. They could have stacked that team like the braves and the Phillies. But no. We will see what happens but let’s not doubt this guys tenacity.

    M's dropped bank on Cano and it set the franchise back a decade. Dropping tens of millions of dollars into players heading into their 30s might be exciting for the fans, but it is not going to build a winning team. Angels have Shohei and Trout and still suck every year.

    Ohtani may get one half a BILLION dollars over say ten years. He is 29 years old, at ages 37 38 and 39 you can bet he sure as hell will not be producing on a $50,000,000 per annum level. Remember he is a two way player that adds stress to the body. He will most likely start to break down in his mid 30s, need more rest, and play fewer games. This arm has been reconstructed twice now, how many pitches does the shoulder and arm have left? Only a team with amazing resources can assume the salary risk of this guy. Few can have 50 million performing like 15 million in a few years. This is akin to having your “can’t miss” first round QB flop or underperform. It can stifle a team for years. Ask the Giants, Mets or Steelers about that. Ohtani is an amazing player but the financial risk is also amazing. Few owners, even billionaires, will assume that risk, remember they are mostly business men, they did not get to be billionaires by making stupid financial decisions. Unless of course they inherited it. This is a “bet the farm deal” for some organizations.

    how do the rangers sign shohei, hader, monty, and another top tier talent? realistic or an impossible dream? a few things to consider before laughing this off. first, there's no cap in baseball, only luxury tax. also the rangers would sell out every game as they just won their first world series in franchise history. that doesn't include revenue in shohei merchandise. they would literally make their money back in ticket sales and jersey sales in year one. lastly, if they offered a two year contract to all 3 players they could not only go after ohtani, hader, and monty, but another top tier talent next year. dodgers and red sox don't have a retractable roof which would shorten ohtani's his career as a two way. and respectfully to the west coasters who argue the weather is better, he's not walking his dog, he's looking for a controlled environment to play in so that weather isn't a factor for home games. i hate to break it to the big spenders but when it comes to being the greatest baseball player of all time, money alone isn't going to convince the face of baseball to join ur team. winning means everything. he's done chasing the biggest bag. l.a. and boston have state taxes so all of this factors into his decision. just from a common sense perspective it makes sense that the rangers are the favorites to land shohei. wyatt langford, who is being compared to mike trout, will be called up by the rangers sooner than later. and the rangers had 5 all-star starters last year. and w wyatt langford added to the mix, u are basically looking at potentially 8 or 9 all-star starters next season with the best pitching rotation in baseball when degrom comes back. it just doesn't make sense for any other team to be the favorites to land him. if he only signed two years he would still be making the same per year if he signed with the dodgers or the giants who would offer him a long term deal in the elements of unpredictable weather. but by the end of the two years ray davis would have so much money in revenue and ticket sales that they would not only be able to match a long term offer but dare i say be able to offer more.
    Reasons why Shohei Ohtani "will" sign with Texas:
    1: no state taxes
    2: defending world series champions
    3: retractable roof
    4: influx of elite youth talent built for years of success in the future
    5: great numbers at globe life field
    6: Chris Young is the best GM in baseball/Princeton graduate/former player (pitcher)
    7: Bruce Bochy is the best Manager in baseball/future hall of famer/4 rings (most recently last year)
    8: only team in MLB history to go 11-0 on the road in the post season
    9: Ray Davis is not afraid to open his wallet (he can't take his money with him only his legacy and lets face it he's in his twilight)
    10: Jacob deGrom, Max Scherzer, Nathan Eovaldi, Jordan Montgomery, and possibly Clayton Kershaw will be our rotation next year.
    11: Josh Hader according to the rumor mill has mutual interest in the Rangers
    12: He would bat clean up behind Marcus Semien, Corey Seager, and Adolis Garcia
    13: He would immediately become the face of a franchise who is in dynasty mode.
    14: how many All-Star starters did Texas have last year?
    15: Chris Young is a high character guy who seeks out high character players. Shohei is very much a high character guy. class recognizes class.
    16: Shohei has already said that he appreciated how the rangers sought him out before coming to the league.
    17: opposing pitchers won't be able to pitch around him because of who would bat in front of him which means more home runs.
    18: Yu Darvish loved playing in texas and most likely had conversations about it with Shohei
    19: the fan base. we are loyal. I waited my entire life for a ring. went to games for 40 years win or lose.
    20: last years world series had one of the worst ratings ever. there were zero story lines. other than the home fans who would watch regardless, what were the intriguing story lines that would pull in the league fans? there were none. hell, baseball needs a villain. astros are getting old. the yankees have a diminished brand. the dodgers don't win in october. where's the villain? there is none. the texas rangers shelling out a gazillion dollars for a gazillion stars would be exactly what baseball needs. shohei to texas? let's roll!!!
    if shohei is afraid of getting injured he will definitely go after a long term deal in which case the front office will have to offer him a minimum of 400 million for 10 years. but do i have doubts that if that happens the rangers will take their hat out of the ring? absolutely not. chris young is way too smart not to let the opportunity of signing the goat pass by. with that said, do i think shohei will consider other teams? well if it was before the rangers won the world series then sure, but i 100% guarantee his mind is made up. u can call me mystic mac cus i predict these things.
    corey seager had tommy john too. hell half the league has had tommy john. but ur saying the greatest player do ever play the game. the dude is a cash cow investment in revenue alone not just ticket sales. japan will be paying the rangers to televise every single game. and any team who doesn't have a retractable roof that is going to bid on him doesn't stand a chance. every person in japan will be wearing rangers jersey's. he's 29 years old. he's in his prime. and he's the elite of the elite. his body will heal. and he's way too much of a competitor so he will pitch again. so when degrom comes back and he comes back dear lord god in heaven and earth. w rumblings of kershaw coming to his hometown. monty, eovaldi, scherzer. heany, dunning, and gray will hold it together until degrom and shohei is ready so if it sounds premature to say "i know where he's going", just means other mlb homers for other teams are delusional. why would a two way player who has had two are surgeries want to play outdoors for the rest of his career?
    respectfully. tx just won the world series. it is a huge market. the hype around the team is already like the beatles. if shohei joined it would be like the beatles featuring michael jackson. ticket sales right now are projected to be historic for the franchise. if shohei joins every seat would be filled. it would have as much hype as when jeter and the yankees had their dynasty run. the rotation would have degrom at the top. shohei could easily slide in front of scherzer and scherzer be ok with it because he knows his days of pitching 20 strike outs in a game is over. he just wants to win as well. but in the end that's what it will come down to for shohei. not whether or not it looks like durant joining the already stacked warriors.
    i guarantee he will have a statue before his career is over in texas. only question is where to put it. they will surely be a dynasty. possibly the best talent ever assembled. but i don't think the level of celebration for those players, like dirk nowitzki, mike madano, or even the cowboys legends, even tho we love them, will get the same as shohei. ur talking about a global icon not just a home town hero. the way we feel about babe ruth here is how people in japan feel about shohei. and even players around the league are fans. the hype right now in texas is a perfect fit for winning and marketing. and i can't wait.

I'm not giving up jack for one year at 30$ noooo. As a SF historic supporter turned sociopathic hater of mlb, manfred, etc!! just a mess, sf would love Soto, even for one year, they'd give nothing up though. Accept the 30$ million, dudes value is only to a contender.

    As a Dodgers fan, let the Mets take Ohtani, I'll take Snell.

      Othani wants to win, so he’s most likely heading Dodgers way lol

    His arm has broke down twice ! His worth is at DH at this point but someone will
    ‘over pay” for him.

      You sound like the same doubters that thought ohtani wouldn’t be successful being a DH/pitcher when he first came to the states. All those doubters disappeared and look like a fools after ohtani proved them wrong. That being said, can’t wait until ohtani performs and make your comment look like another fool!

    If Ohtani wants a WS ring, the short list will be the Dodgers, Rangers, Braves or Astros. ONLY if the Dodgers get two elite starting pitchers. Or they will choke again.

      It's the Dodgers, they always choke. Apparently Ohtani has eyes for the Braves, but am unsure how they want for more hitters but need more pitchers.
