San Gil is fun. Been going almost every year since 2020. At the easier, lower level rapids the rafting guides used to play games in the water, now too many regulations. After a rapid in the shallow calm sections we played turning the boat upside down, everyone stands on top with no paddle and then we see who is the last one standing after the guide starts jumping and moving the raft. Second we all sit in the back next to the guide, he attaches a rope to the front and pulls the raft into a bony hop, kinda of like when you ride a bike in one wheel. Sometimes the raft will return back down, other times the raft falls back and we end up under it. Other times we jump out of the raft before the rapids arrive, the guide goes ahead with those that refuse to jump and we do the rapids solo, just with life jacket. Sometimes we swallow water when the rapids pull you in, other times you butt hits the rock, so we are supposed to pass the rapids foot forward, body straight, laying out head in the back of the life jacket like a pillow. It's fun and sometimes terrifying. As long as you are calm all will be fine. No matter how much the rapids pull you in, the life jacket pulls you out, so, you can breathe. Other times after passing a high wave in a rapid, we all paddle in reverse to the rapid, this is cool because when the raft touches the wave it is pulled in and it gets full of water, it can spin crazy or even just flip and many go flying. Fun fun. A little risky but it is fun!! Good memories in San Gil, Colombia. What better than to end a trip and go to the Indio cave and crawl into the narrow cave, and jump in the water at the end of the cave tour.
I was looking for a video of this river on RUclips to show some friends in the Philippines to what big river rafting is like. I did not expect to see myself in this video! .24 second's in dark blue shirt and same in the front of the raft. Thanks for posting. Always wanted to show friends what this river was like. This was my tenth time down the river with these guys in many years. A great outfit in San Gil
