I live in York off of Rte 161 and it was a beautiful day. I was outside enjoying watching my dogs play and the sky was blue with fluffy white clouds. I went into the house and about 10 minutes later, it suddenly got quite dark. I opened the outside door to my screen porch and WHAM, all of a sudden very strong horizontal wind and copious amounts of rain was blowing steadily SIDEWAYS! it nearly blew my tiny dog off the porch. It wasn't so much gusts as it was steady wind and it was bending the trees like straws, we have those really tall skinny pines, i they were ok but in the woods I could hear loud cracks of large trees breaking. Then the hail, it was pea size first mixed with rain, then as this man is saying the pieces just kept getting bigger, as large as tennis balls. I thought the gable end of my house which faces west was going to get its windows broken as well as damage to the vinyl siding. The noise in the house was deafening. I decided to go into the closet under our stairs to the second floor with my two dogs because of the sounds I thought that perhaps part of the sound was a tornado coming on. It was quick, but seemed like forever and when it passed, back to clear blue skies and fluffy white clouds like nothing had happened! This takes the cake on the WEIRDEST storm I have ever experienced in Colorado, In Arizona and in Ohio all places that I have been in some whopper storms. At my house the lightening had to have been really close as there were not even seconds between the flashes and the booms that shook the house. We lost power from the get go and that was about 4pm, it did not come back on until 7am Sunday am. Kudos to all the workers who were able to get it back on considering all the downed trees and lines.
