What does NADP and NADPH stand for? Why is there a + symbol next to NADP?

NADPH stands for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate hydrogen. NADP stands for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate, and the + symbol is there because it is positively charged.

Why does it need to 'stabilise' though?

I am assuming it's necessary in order for the plant to adapt and react to the new source of light. Can't be instantaneous can it?
