great video! sometimes the topic of compressors can get really technical and go over my head in terms of understanding whats happening, but you explained everything very well :)
Good to see you mate. I think it’s a really great product, design/build quality,/feature. But any daw can easily emulat this for a mastering, and it’s be a little bit expensive for independent instrument effect. But great coloration for sound design. Also don’t forget there is also a tons of compressor pedal with great souding and cheaper
Pedal sounds cool, but could have used some indicator leds. Also I don’t want an app with my gear. In 10 years after multiple iOS updates, it might not be available anymore.
@@XenonOrion it’s not about needing a phone, but about iOS updates and apps needing to be updated to still work after such a major update. If the company behind this pedal doesn’t update their app anymore in a few years, you basically can use the app anymore.
@@FuZZbaLLbee i don't bother or even think about updating apple products since the last time. almost bricked the desktop because their new os requires an ssd and they didn't bother to mention it before the update. so i doubt i have anything recently updated enough that will work with this.
Ok, ua. good one. Time for stereo compressor limiters besides the ehx plattform. Nice one. Amazing features. As a ruby lover i still scratch my head about the completeley flopped tweed amp pedal. Anybody playing it? Cmon ua, give me the plexi finally. Spit it out. Include a variac plz.
I played the Woodrow for a bit. Mine arrived with a very broken foot switch, so I sent it back, but I tried it out for a bit. I felt like the preamp section sounded a bit more true to the Fender Tweed sound than the Strymon Iridium, but didn’t really like how the amp amp responded to playing dynamics and overdrive pedals in front of it. Really sucked the tone out of it, IMO. I’d be curious to experiment a bit with the Max, and compare the preamp section on Max to the tube overdrive on the OTO BOUM. Love my Boum, but inpretty much always process my drums with it, and it is kinda big for the guitar pedal board. I kinda want something similar to the Boum, but a bit smaller and less expensive, ideally. I love how the Boum sounds with some distorted guitar in front, and you can filter out some high end to get some very amp-like tones.
I think my gripe with dsp boxes like this might have a lot to do with the Addac converters, btw. It’s like when you plug something into an Elektron box, too. Like some of the low and high end disappears, and aliasing removes harmonics, and although the effects sound good, the original tone isn’t quite there.
Hey Cuckoo. Thanks for your invaluable output over the years. The Bass Sidechain feature Volume jump or drop when engaging or turning it off is something i see for the first time. It seems like there is something not very elegantly programmed cause i have been using sc filters on software compressors for years but never had such a volume jump out of the blue. Regarding the Overdrive, you say it degrades everything. Did you try it very subtly? Can it add a bit of crunch but like "ultra subtle" or does is it more of a "either it does something or it doesn`t" kind of options ? Ps: at 21:40 when you jump to the DYNA is it really only the Dyna playing or is the saturation still going on in the preamp stage? It sounds very saturated for a one knob processor imho ?
Hey bud, sry to change topic, but I have a few hard synths, and a SL mk111 keyboard, ableton......... i don't have a drum machine yet, for the price I feel like I would love the cycles and samples......especialy from hearing your music...........if I can only get one right now which do you think i would have more fun with and not get stagnant with, Model Cycles or Samples
Thanks very much for this video! 🤟 If the MAX is more for custom sculpting and a unique sound, is there any other final stereo compressors you rely on for live?
No, you can't feed it an external sidechain. For hardware sidechaining try something like a cheap secondhand Alesis 3036, it's not a great compressor (sound-wise) but with sidechaining all you're really doing is using it as an automated volume control, which it's great at.
Heeey thanks! I stopped the print on demand service, so it’s no longer available. But I’m thinking of reviving this style in a more developed screen printed T-shirt design at some point. Keep an eye out on my channel to keep posted.
Hey you should look into the TP-7 by teenage engineering. it seems really interesting (while expensive)but I can’t find any good overviews I think it could be useful for sick beats
Yeah the TP-7 is only in the hands of a handful of people at the moment. At Superbooth I didn’t feel like it was quite ready for a deep dive. It was still in beta firmware. I think there are a bunch of Superbooth videos of it out there. It’s one of these products that feel absolutely magical in your hand, and every other recorder then feels super dull in comparison. But a Zoom still is much more straight forward to use, and probably more useful in most respects. But the TP-7 seems to have a bunch of very unique features that I’m dying to try out once I get my hands on a unit. For instance, the ports are bi-directional, and can be configured for both recording input, or playback output. How sick is that!
I don't have first hand experience with Oto Boum, but I have a feeling you can be more creative, distorted, aggressive and go into crazy territory with the Boum with all the parameters, and different drive circuits. It sounds really cool. But for a subtle transparent and classy compressor, it's very much up to taste and personal preference.
I find compression too overrated takes away lots of the dynamics of a song or performance think an average perosn cant hear ghe difference between ths different kinds of compressor too 😊
I find watching this not only informative but really really relaxing too
Noone going to talk about that track at 17:24. Unbelievable work on that one 😲
Had previously thought this was just mono for guitar/bass now I find out it’s dual stereo! I’m in!!!
Yeah it’s quite generous!

Thanks mate! 🙏🏼
a lot of presssure on that MAX. great Cuckoo! thanks
We miss you Cuckoooooooooo! 😢 I miss your more intimate videos
I’m heeeere! Back from summer holidays that felt like eternity. What sort of videos do you miss the most? 🙏🏼❤️
Start at 01:18 he gets real intimate with this machine 😉
i always love more workflow oriented vids 💕 technique over tech ✨
sweet video.
I ordered one of these last week.
Since, it's stereo I think i'll be using this thing a lot with a lot of instruments
All this information is golden. You should have made the official manual. 😊
Bro , i enjoyed your commentary. Reminds me of Bob Ross.
Thanks
Great content as always, good job Cuckoo ! Thank you for sharing.
Let me get my popcorn

I wish this had midi cc, it would be such a monster modulating it with the elektron boxes.
Yup same, was literally about to buy, but once I learned it didn’t, changed my mind. Major miss that isn’t that complex to add 😢
Why the fuck does music making have to be “complex”?
Sounds like you limit yourself.
imagine cuckoo designed an instrument 😍
Now that's a Huge! pedal.
start using it on your microphone on the videos, with a lil bit of saturation, might sound amazingggggggg
Pedal sounds cool, but could have used some indicator leds.

I wish UAD made a plugin where you could easily toggle between compressors (like in Logic)
Will you being doing any USA shows anytime in the future, how can we keep posted

Ugh dammit...they had to hide features in the app that I'd use in a performance. Barstewards :( Great demo though, thank you!

*synth, grooveboxes....
Maybe the rnc 1773 is a good and cheap master compressor for live sets
bro why 20 on ratio i can´t hear how it really works
Can it handle guitar and line level without any configuration?
Does it do trad sidechain for a kick for example? 🤔

Can’t believe I was using the attack and release backwards 😅
Haha I think everyone is, until they read the manual. ❤️😅
I think we have the traditional 1176 convention to thank for that. 😂 Clockwise for faster.
Hi cuckoo , where I could buy your nice T-shirt😂

Every great recording you've ever heard has compression on it.
Maybe have bad ears, but newer heard big difference with use of compressors. Rising gain on a track does the job for me.
Hanging out to see if someone will use this to compress vocals... @truecuckoo ... You up for giving it a go?
Might as well just use the UA plugins for that, same algorithms.
