Your style really looks like it was influenced by the CLAMP style (at least the Chobits, Kobato, etc clamp). On top of everything, The Little Mermaid was my favourite Disney movie growing up. No, it was that killing him would release herself from the 'contract' that she put herself under. In the end she couldn't kill him and gave up her life instead. The story was that since the reason she was up there wasn't fulfilled (having the prince fall in love with her) she was to either kill him to return to the water or die herself since her end to the deal was not upheld. (Btw its been a while since i read it so its not totally accurate.)
Miss Meow isn't the story supposed to end like the mermaid was too inlove with the prince so he couldn't afford to kill him and she turned into bubbles but Angels took her soul and spirit
