the gospel simply means "good news." The good news preached to Israel when they came out of Egypt (the "them" of Heb. 4:2) was the good news of salvation from slavery. The good news given to the thief on the cross was "Today you will be with Me in paradise." The good news preached to us is salvation from the slavery of sin and the opportunity to also be with Christ in paradise.

Can you explain what gospel the thief on the cross obeyed according to Hebrews 4:2?

The thief was a Jew who died under Judaism. The core teaching of the Gospel as defined by Paul (1 Corinthians 15:1-8) is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The thief died before the resurrection of Christ. Many try to say that the thief was not baptized, without giving any proof. It is equally possible that he had previously been baptized. He called Jesus "Lord," and was familiar with the teaching of Jesus concerning the coming kingdom. Prove that he was not baptized. There is a good chance that he could have been.

@@larrymcclain8874 Such assumptions are crucial for a baptismal regeneration narrative. However, Christians don’t have to assume anything when it comes to the true gospel, because biblical theology is based on solid biblical facts rather than mere assumptions.

Whether the thief on the cross was baptized by John or not, or whether he was still under the Old Covenant or not, is actually irrelevant when it comes to the true gospel, because the essential content of God’s eternal plan of salvation has never changed.
Therefore, what is the only gospel that the thief on the cross could have ever possibly obeyed, according to Hebrews 4:2 and its parallel passages (e.g., Isa.53:1, Jn. 12:38, Rom. 3:29-30; 10:16 and Gal. 3:6-8)?

That would require the works of human hands (Acts 17:24-25). Not the fruit of lips (Hebrews 13:15). When you take up materialistic inanimate objects and manipulate those objects to make noise, you are no longer spirituality worshipping a Spirit God (John 4:24). Jesus told the Samaritan woman that under the coming Christian religion you would no longer worship God in the manner of the Jewish Temple (John 4:21). Spiritual worship requires words that mean things (1 Corinthians 14:15-17).

Do you work in a grocery store as a butcher, by chance? Because you just butchered the scriptures of the Living God by taking a meat 🥩 cleaver to every one of those verses by taking them out of context and misapplying them in an attempt to prove one of the worst teachings the CoC ever devised. The CoC gets some things right, but this absurd assault on the use of instruments in worship is not one of them. ✝️🍞🍷😇
