  • Build a photo box for still life photography or for jewelry and small sculpture. Learn more at thevirtualinstructor.com/blog/...
A photo box diffuses light resulting in softer transitions of value and tone. This produces a more attractive photo that you can use as a reference for drawing and painting. This photo box construction also works great for photographing jewelry or small sculpture.

Thank you for this video. I had issues with the tissue paper tearing all the time so I bought some interfacing fabric I sourced from a fabric store. I used 5mm thick foam board. I wish I purchased thicker but hopefully this holds and lasts for now.

What brand and wattage light bulbs do you use? Do you use LED or incandescent bulbs?

Do you think this could be adapted for 3d scanning, where you move the camera all around the object using an app?

I am photographing framed wall art. It has glass front, but most are floating frames so now backing. I have so much trouble with glare. How do I prevent this? My frames are usually 11x14. thanks

Hi Laurence, I would suggest sticking with black. You can always lay large white paper and attach it to the back to create a white backdrop - or any other color that you wish.

also why does the top has a wider edge on one side ? why did not you do it like the side with the tissue paper?? thanks
I am sure there is a special reason for it!

      Hi Laurence,
This box is designed to shoot with one defined light source, that's why the top piece is cut on one side. You can always cut more from the top to suit your needs.
