Well Ben...pretty interesting test. I would have expected your HR to rise (do to cardiac drift), but seeing it go down with the alphaflys and vaporflys convinces me your running economy improved with those shoes. Nice! Regarding further tests, I wear Saucony's so would like to see tests on a number of their trainers. Thanks and you are almost to 100k.
Saucony and Hoka have my votes! Although I'd love to see a video about heel drop and running form, what's the relationship -if any- between the two in your view! Love your content!
The thing to understand is related to footstrike. Forefoot strike, lower drop shoes (below 5mm) will suit, Midfoot strike it's 5mm to 8mm heel 2 toe drop, Heel strikers- higher drop +10mm shoes like Mizuno Wave Rider, or Brooks. Some rotation of shoes with different drops may be beneficial to work different leg muscles, giving each a break successively. Not a great idea to run in a 4mm drop shoe one day, then a 12mm another day though.. too much change
Ben your a GENIUS! Never thought about HR testing my shoes. If Mary can test Saucony that would be amazing. Personally not been impressed with Endorphin Pro 4 vs 3. Good to see Mary's HR given she has new pairs of both.
Love the zoomfly 5 currently have a pair and considering investing in the new zoomfly 6. I’d love to buy the vapourfly and alphaflys but the cost is a bit prohibitive. Love your channel and content.
I would like to see an analysis of Saucony because that is the brand I always run on. Also because the Guide 17 (which is my daily trainer) has changed so much compared to the Guide 16, that I am looking for a good replacement for the Guide.
Road to Trail shoe comparison across brands would be great if you have time. Pick 5 from Saucony Xodus Ultra, or Peregrine, Puma Voyage Nitro 3, Merrell Agility Peak 5, Mizuno Wave Daichi 8, Hoka Speedgoat 5, Inov8 TrailFly, and Asics Gel-Trabuco or from others. So to qualify shoes would need from 3mm to 5mm of lug depth on outsole.
I used to always stick with Nike, but once I tried other brands, i found what really worked for me wasn't Nike at all. 😂 I have ended up an Asics fan. I have a few levels of their sneakers and recently tried the Saucony that Mary wears for races. Experiment with brands not just cost. 😊
I'm the same on low milage easy runs, Pegasus 41. I use Vomero for medium long runs or trails (considering changing) zoom tempo next % for track work and short races (only made one year, I loved them so much I searched out the last 6 pairs in aftermarket and bought them all) with vaporfly as a backup, and alphafly 2/3 for long runs and races.
99.1k…. So so close 🎉 By next week after this vid I expect you will reach 100k…. Whoop whooop 🎉 although never been a fan of Nike shoes or clothing but the HR result is wow…. Maybe some alphafly should be added to me shoe collection 😂
Hello 👋 saucony, please. I have been running in triumph 20 speed 2 and have bought speed 4 pro 2 and I have pro 3 but have not raced in them yet and saucony peregrine for trails I've been racing in endorphin edge trail that I've grown to like . Thanks for sharing your time.
"if you have enough money to buy two" is often said but rarely a good point. Shoes wear out, so if you run on a regular basis, you must buy new ones before the midsole degrades because of the age anyways. Alternating between different shoes actually prolongs their lifespan (and reduces injury risk). If you want to save money, a rotation of different last years models is going to be way cheaper over time than buying a new Pegasus on a regular basis. Even if you prefer having only one shoe type it makes more sense to have two of them to alternate, even though this video shows nicely that the jack of all trades was beat in each category by the specialist.
That was cool. I've been thinking of comparing efficiency in the shoes I run in (HR at the same pace, or pace at the same HR). Would be good to see Adidas or Saucony. Or even better, a horizontal comparison (e.g., daily trainers, max cushion, super trainder, race day).
Ben, tried all of these (300ks plus) except the Peg.. You really should try the new FLY 6s... simply superb!! All you need.. plus maybe an Alpha for PB races..
Ah a fellow Pegasus 41 fan :) Does not typically get too much love :) I agree with your conclusion that a "daily trainer" like this is going to give you the best all round experience although of course any runner looking to do their best in races will likely want a Vaporfly or Alphafly or whatever else other brands offer. Interesting how close the weights are between the VF3 and AF3 for you in a more "normal" size. In my boat UK 13, the VF3 is 255g and AF3 291g and, as such, I have always felt more at home in Vaporflys. AF3 just feels like I have an awful lot of shoe on. I have got a Zoom Fly 6 on order which, by all accounts, is somewhat better/lighter than the ZF5 which was a true "brick" for me - about 380g.
For allarounder for me as a beginner I choose the Vomero 17 because it was 75£ and felt like a great deal instead of Pegasus 41 which would have been 110-120£.
Puma, Mizuno or Saucony would be good videos if this is more than a one off.. if you're not sure which shoes are good... Puma- Nitro series- 1. ForeverRun, 2. Velocity, 3. Deviate, 4. Deviate Elite; and then 5.. one alternative from Magnify, MagMax or Fast-R. Saucony- 1.Triumph, 2. Ride 17, 3. Endorphin Speed 4, 4. Endorphin Elite. and then 5.. one alternative from Kinvara, Kinvara Pro, Endorphin Pro. Mizuno- 1. Neo Vista, 2. Wave Rebellion Pro 3. Wave Rider (ok but high drop). Two alternatives from Wave Rebellion Flash, Wave Sky, Wave Skyrise etc.
Have always been a Nike fan boy but I can't lie my best, fastest or most enjoyable runs are in Adidas recently, am I changing..... 🤔 Great video as always! 👟
I'm the same! I could have been a successful Alphafly salesman at one point 😂 However after some of Nike's recent shoe disasters and the Alphafly v2 being a huge letdown, I found myself buying more Asics and Adidas shoes and boy I've not been disappointed! I can't wait for the release of the Adidas pro 4's in January 👌🏻
The heart rate data shows the reduction in load on your legs by having the carbon plates and super critical foams. You're working less hard because of the energy return from the shoes. Great for race day and fast sessions, but bad for easy miles because you won't get the conditioning benefit that you would get from non-plated shoes. Really interesting seeing the comparison though! 👍
Interesting... but, could the earlier shoes be the equivalent of a warm-up and allow the later tests to show a lower HR? You need to use a standard set run time at the same same running power for the benchmark. See how much distance you ran relative to HR at relatively constant power. BTW, if you are using GoPro... they are notorious for simply NOT recording audio for no reason.
How about trainers and race shoes for people over 200 lbs (91 kilos)? Also, should runners that heavy bother with carbon plate? I've read the plate is not much of a help for slower runners.
Definitely used to like Nike shoes and apparel.. I'm from their hometown here in Eugene, Oregon. Unfortunately they went off the deep end politically here in the states years back and I can't stomach giving them my money anymore. I doubt they care :) ... anyway.. I'm currently running in the best shoe I've ever owned.. the Asics Superblast 2. Never thought I'd switch from the On cloudsurfer but the Superblast 2 is the greatest Jack of all trades shoe.... IMHO .
Thumbs down!!!! Alpha flies and Vaporflies are only for racing! They only last 100-150 miles plus the cost over $200. Unless you plan on spend $2500 for a pair of trainers this is an enormous FLAWED experiment! You failed!
Your logic is absolutely flawed actually! Who says they are only for racing? You? I train in my vaporfly’s only and never race in them. Some people have both pairs and never race. They are for whatever each person wants them for within their budget and preference. Not a flawed experiment. Your logic is flawed in my opinion. But you’re right welcome to your opinion as well 😊
Now we need Mary to do Saucony, and we know she loves Pro 3 for race day!!
Well Ben...pretty interesting test. Asics! Also I would love a comparison of different brands and models for each type of training... easy run, tempo, fast intervals and long distance. 😊
Definitely addidas
Hoka as well :)
My vote is for a Saucony review next 🙂
Review Saucony please!
Saucony is the best
Would love to see your thoughts on a range of Brooks shoes.

Can Mary review Saucony please! I'm thinking of buying the Saucony Endorphin Speed 4's. Thanks 😊
Yeah go for it, think the heel rubbing issue with Speed 3s was fixed with the Speed 4.
@outerheaven8797 Thank you 😊
@@jocooke8255 Only note of caution would be the Speed 4 upper looks like it has sizeable holes for breathability... could be a problem could not
Saucony please 🙏🏻
Love the zoomfly 5 currently have a pair and considering investing in the new zoomfly 6. I’d love to buy the vapourfly and alphaflys but the cost is a bit prohibitive. Love your channel and content.
Saucony and ASICS are my preferred brands atm so I’d be interested to see those.
Hi guys could you do the saucony range please 🙏 I love and am addicted to your channel on all levels x
How about testing Brooks?
10 seconds... quickest click and like in my life.
Love your content!
Watching from Fiji 🇫🇯. This has got to be my favorite shoe video from Messy Happy from my only brand
Great T shirt I might have one similar, Saucony review by Mary please
I would like to see an analysis of Saucony because that is the brand I always run on. Also because the Guide 17 (which is my daily trainer) has changed so much compared to the Guide 16, that I am looking for a good replacement for the Guide.
Love to see you all do Brooks
Yes, Saucony! (or ASICS) 😁😁 Thanks a bunch...love your channel! God bless, Megan 🙏
Do them all! I’d watch every one!!

First time seeing someone do the heart rate test for a shoo compare, and I like it!

I’ve not been able to find a race day shoe better than the Alphafly v1 so I’d love to hear Mary review Saucony 👌
Mary to do Saucony - see if I have the right balance of Saucony trainers!
Peg Plus or Peg 41?
We gotta rep the Pegs, Tim! Hope you’re good? 😊
@@ThisMessyHappy Indeed ! Bit of a dodgy Achilles at the moment but trying to do what I can. Maybe getting a bit old ! Very well done in Chicago BTW.

Awesome info❤
Listening from Fiji 🇫🇯. Currently using Pegasus 39 hopefully will by the Peg 41 next
I find that my zoom flys actually felt better after 200kms. It’s a long way to wait for comfort but they really pop after that.
The Zoom fly 6 is out now. A big improvement apparently.
It has to be Mary testing the Saucony range!
I have shoes from ASICS, Adidas, Hoka and Decathlon. Any of these!

Please review Saucony, totally confusing top end:-)

Asics get my vote, the only brand I've ever been consistently comfortable with.
Review Hoka!!!
