2015 Nissan Altima 2.5L Camshaft Position Sensor

- After searching and searching for where they were located in a 2015 (or newer) 2.5l 4cylndr I decided to locate them myself. I literally took me longer to shoot the video than it did to replace them.
*UPDATE. Use the OEM Cam Shaft Position Sensor. Aftermarket gets rejected by the CPU about 6 months later and the "check engine" light comes back on. It's because the CPU finally recognizes the part as "non" Nissan.
No cap bro. I went to autozone today told me the same thing charged me 68 a piece . Went to a mechanic and was quoted a 1000.. wasted 140 but save a full band thank you
Based comment. I was at auto one yesterday and got p0015 on my Altima. Dude said they were 68 each too! I’m trippin on a mechanic when I fr just change em out and I’m done?? Any issues since you did the change?
Any time Bro!
I thought you said this was for a Nissan Altima 2015 2.5!?
Thank you for taking the time to show others how to replace those sensors, you definitely made the job very easy for me. People like you place our community in a better world.
Thank you for this comment. I truly appreciate it.
Awesome video bud, simple and to the point. Had same issue here, I said no way I'll do it, I found 2 sensors on eBay and here we are. Thanks bro, I appreciate it
Glad the video helped out!
Are the two sensors the same pattern or different?
Problem Fixed: Whenever your ECM detects P052B on L33, the first thing to check is your MAF sensor and Camshaft sensor. When the IAT is faulty is going to trick out the PCM and send wrong messages to some units such as fuel injector by pumping more fuel and oil. This will probably damage some other sensors such as camshaft, crankshaft sensor and PCV valve. to fix P052B code on Altima 2013 to 2015 you will need to change the cam-sensor after inspecting MAF sensor, PCV valve and intake air housing. Consider oil change before doing this. Tx
How do you check the mass flow air
Thank you very much it is well appreciated, its -30degrees c here in Canada and I will have to fix it outside, life saver!!!
Bank 1 or A would be Intake which is on firewall side or back of engine and Exhaust B or Bank 2 would be at front towards rad on 2.5 engine head .
I checked both and both were bad, but the dealership said it was only 1.
That’s the crankshaft position sensor it’s made different from the camshaft
Crankshaft is at bottom of engine camshaft is on top engine at front 2 with dual cams one intake and one exhaust.
Thanks so much for the video, I was searching for hours trying to find a video for the location of these sensors. Any idea of a part number on these?
Sorry about taking so long to reply. Part #23731-JA11A. Need to make sure the connector end is right angled.
Great video. Very informative, easy to follow. Thank you.
You nailed that video. You’re the man!
I appreciate that
Richard I'm bypassing my ac compressor on a 2013 Altima. I'm using a dummy pulley bracket. What else do I need to remove/ cap off in the system until I replace the compressor in warmer months?
@@mikeamanda3114 man...as I'm not a mechanic, I have no idea
Thank you!! Is the one camshaft sensor you pointed out is bank 1 or bank 2
Did you ever find out? Bank 1 or bank 2?
@@KenLouMosame question
Sorry about taking so long to reply (just now seeing it) Bank 1 is the upper (away from you) and Bank 2 is the lower (closest to you)
I'm having the same issue with my 2016 altima 2.5 litre 4 cyclinder....I replaced the camshaft position sensor on bank 1 and the spark plugs...and its still cutting off...what might be the issue
This might not be the camshaft position sensor but one of the VVT solenoids. Had a friend's 2014 Altima that would cut off after starting it. Thought it was the camshaft PS but it was one of the VVTs. And it happened to be the hardest one to get too
Yes i am getting the shaft by a dealership right now..just spent 4k on having them replace the tranny and have gone through 3 alternators in 3 weeks since i got it back
I bought the camshaft position sensor from Autozone and I have a question. It brought a little packet that has a type of liquid, and I’m wondering if I have to put it on the O-ring and if I have to remove the O-ring to get it all in there. But I don’t need to take any oil out or anything? Just a quick remove and replace? Awesome video btw.
Thanks for the comment. You can use the lubricant that came with the part or some of the oil the will be at the end of the sensor.
@@pcolasoldier31 last question and I’m so sorry for the bother this might be a stupid question but do they need to be torqued and if so how much?
@@nem0cuh385 just hand tight is good enough
Replaced the new camshaft position sensor and it wouldn’t start. I changed them back to the old ones and started right back up. What do you think the problem could be? You think I should change the O-ring from the old to the new? Great video btw.
Edit:do you think the whole time I had to reset the check engine code?
Appreciate the comment. Seems like you either bought a bad camshaft sensor or maybe the wrong one. Never replace a new O-ring with an old one.
Ur vid nailed it for us. Thanks for posting it.
Wondering if you’re still here? I know this is an old video. I’m trying to look at the purge valve solenoid, located at the top of the screen and to the back of where you’re working. The plug broke off of my Altima and I am trying to rewire the new plug in and I’m not sure which wire goes on top and bottom, it is the brown or the purple wire on top?
I'm still here, but unfortunately this is my ex's car that was traded in a few years ago. If you go to the official Nissan website, you might be able to find a wire diagram for that plug. If that doesn't work, and a Google search doesn't work, your best bet would be going to a junkyard that has that model Altima.
@@pcolasoldier31 thank you for the response. I guessed off of other pictures and got it right! Hooked back up and my CEL is gone.
@@kaycieboerner3913 that's great news!
Appreciate this... Perfect way of showing it...
Anytime my man
Great video. Did everything step by step. Put the new sensors in. The car still sounds off, takes a while for the engine to turn over too for the push start. Check engine light still on. Did the diagnostic and it still says camshaft………anything possible I could have missed?
The first sensors I purchased only lasted a month. Make sure it's OEM cam shaft sensors -disconnect the negative lead from the battery.
@@pcolasoldier31 yea had to get brand new sensors from the Nissan parts store. More expensive than I’d hoped but it did the trick.
Hey quick question is the crank shaft position sensor in the back of the motor? I can't seem to find videos on that either... or it doesn't have a crank shaft sensor??
Sorry just learning mechanic.. I have a Nissan Altima 2018 and no videos on that I'm lost
The crankshaft is on the bottom towards the rear of the vehicle. Right above the manifold. www.parts.nissanusa.com click on the link and you can search by year and model
Thanks for been clear and quick!
Hello bro, I have a 2013 Nissan Altima and I'm trying to remove the Camshaft position sensors, (P0014) like what you deacribed, and I am having a difficult time removing the engine cover. I removed the 3 bolts and proceeded to moving the cover, but there seems to be something holding it down near the back, on the right side, could you tell me what's holding it? Thank you so much I'm advance.... cheers!
Hey...just now seeing this comment. When I get back home I will take a look and see what it might be. You sure it's a 2.5L 4cylinder?
Just pull it.
what was the symptom that car was having to throw that code? My 2015 randomly turns off when idling, sucks when in busy intersections, but I dont have any CEL now.
There wasn't any symptoms given except the check engine light. But that issue you're having is common with this problem.
I have a 2016 altima 2.5 4 cylinder. Codes read P0300 and P0011 would the first thing to change are camshaft position sensor? Car will start idle low then cut off. To keep running got to drop in gear and gas it. But still will shut off if at light and idle shakes rough, HELP! ALREADY PAID NISSAN FOR NEW TRANSMISSION!!!
From research I have done it does sound like your Camshaft position sensors. If the position sensor isn't properly working it has a hard time keeping time with the camshaft and will either idle rough or just cut off.
By know means am I a mechanic...just research a lot
Thank you brother I am not either. My dad is retired air force but went through a whole lot and up in age. So you know how that can be. Thanks and humbly appreciate it.

Hey brother thanks for your video one of a kind because there's one 1 of this year.... I change 1 the top one of the both you pointed at just not the other one should I change both... I changed 1 and it started working more then before should I change both
Hey brother thanks for the kind words. I changed both because I didn't know at the time how to test to see if the sensor was bad or not. there's a video on RUclips where you can check the sensor to see if it's actually bad and you need a multimeter and do a bunch of other things.
Hello there not sure if you know this one or you've had any problems or since you owned the 2.5 liter but my question is not about the camshaft sensor but the MAP sensor LOCATION i can not seem to find it at all on my 2014 2.5 liter ..and EVERYTHING i find points out to taking the INTAKE MANIFOLD off for a maybe ?? Just desperate here TRYING TO HELP OUT my friends actually. Question is do you know where the MAP SENSOR LOCATION for the 2.5 liter is ? Thank you for any help
Here is the parts #22365-1TV1B. It is also known as Sensor Boost. It is located on the Evap Emissions Canister. www.nissanpartsplus.com/v-2014-nissan-altima--base--2-5l-l4-gas/emission-system--emission-components
Also check out ruclips.net/video/57MGrr3VvEY/видео.html. He shows exactly where your EVAP canister is located
Thanks bro big help did u change both or just bank 1
I replaced both. And glad I could help
I’m
Having trouble disconnecting the wire connector. Any suggestions? What am I missing?
It can be a bit tough to take off. If I remember correctly, just left up on the tab and pull straight back.
Thanks. I’m
Missing something. Tried that and a screwdriver. Maybe the print is making it stick
Any idea why when i replace both it wont’ start? Had to put the old one back in (the rear one) to get the engine to start. Thought it was a bad sensor even thought it was new. Got a new one and have the same issue. Thanks,
Maaaaan, I wish I could tell you. When you put the old back in did the check engine light come back on?
Hey! Great video. Quick question, only my cam shaft A or 1 sensor is bad. Which one is number 1 or A? Thanks!
truthfully I wish I could tell you. I would guess the back (or one closest to the firewall). I googled engine schematic and could never find that engine diagram.
Thanks! I did the same with no luck. Guess I’m gonna go with the process of elimination method.
@@joem8447 If you figure it out, let us know!
I have a 2014 Nissan Altima s 2.5L Do you buy 2 camshaft position sensors? Or one is camshaft and the other crankshaft sensor?
The 2 on the top are both camshaft sensors. It's a dual cam. The difference is bank 1 and bank 2. In my case both were bad. Depending on the fault code you are throwing will depend on if you need to replace 1 or both.
@@pcolasoldier31 long crank and then car starts. New fuel pump ,coils, spark plugs. No codes. Any ideas? Thanks
@@rigomartinez8851 possibly the camhaft sensors. That symptom is synonymous with bad sensors. Possibly the air filter needs to be cleaned or the injectors or a bit clogged as well (or the only issue).
Change out the air filter if it's been a while. On your next fill up, add Seafoam to the gas tank. (however many ounces be gallons of gas). This might possibly speed up the crank time.
Did you have any issues starting the car after changing them out? We did it on my buddies car and now when we start up the car it idles for a few seconds and then dies
Did u every get that problem fixed because mines is doing the same thing.
Sounds like is a variable timing solenoid. Had a problem like that with a friend's car. Thought it was the camshaft and ended up being the VT Solenoid.
Hi, I have been looking for a video for crankshaft position sensor on a 2016 Rogue 2.5. This is the closest year I've found for the 2.5 but is that sensor in the same spot on the Rogue?? I've had people say the CPS is on back of motor - and just remove air box and hose and access it from top. I had been looking underneath.
If it's the same 2.5 it should be on the bottom. You can Google engine diagram and might find it that way or look up the part by year and model on the parts section on Nissan's website
@@pcolasoldier31 okay, thanks for your reply.
From under driver's side I see a couple of plug that look similar, and one is on the side and I can see it, and also reach it by reaching up over the A arm structure ( not sure that's the right term ) -part of left front wheel assembly. That sound right to you?
Where is it located on a 2013 Altima? Thank you
I believe it's on the bottom close to the crankcase. I think there is a RUclips video for that model Altima
I got an issue with bank 1 camshaft but the only thing I found was the crankshaft is that it?
If it says Camshaft, then it is the camshaft. Each sensor monitors a different task w/ in the engine.
Saw your video. I may have the same issue. My 2015 Altima has 55k miles. Should this happen?
Possibly. This gen Altima had systemic issues with camshaft, crankshaft sensors and CVVT solenoids

Ok so i located the camshaft sensor im trying to discinect by squeezing the clip but it not budging, was it simple or you have to squeeze hard?i dont want to break it thanks
it was a chore to remove but not too difficult. Just make sure you have a firm grip and if pulling straight back, try wiggling back and forth.
I have a 2014 Altima and I'm having an issue with -occasional- increased crank time prior to start (like maybe 1 in ~40 starts). Could the camshaft position sensors potentially be the issue? (There are no check engine lights). Thanks for the video!!
As I'm not a mechanic, it sounds like an ECM/PCM issue. The camshaft is more for when the engine is running.
Try the crankshaft position sensor instead

Took my 2015 Nissan Altima 2.5L to O'rielly for the free diagnostics test because the check engine light was on. The code reading it gave was p0014 and the probable cause was the camshaft position sensor. I'm confused on which OEM part to get, there's a part #23731=JA11A and 23731JA11B. When I put my VIN# on the Nissan parts website it calls for part # 23731JA11B.
23731-JA11B should be the part number
