  • Pushing 390hp and 480 ft*lbs TO THE WHEELS from its stock 2.3L Ecoboost, Rome's 2017 Ford Focus RS is modified to tear up the racetracks of California, and look great doing it. But let's see how this purpose-built hot hatch handles a much less forgiving canyon road.

    Loads of other hot hatches but probably just not going to the U.S.
    I30N, Golf R/GTi, A45 AMG, RS3, Renault Megane 280, Peugeot 308GTI and I'm sure there are others. The Focus RS is the most fun though, a shame you did 't get a chance to test the handling much. The way it drifts is something the rest just don't have.

  • @coldlogic800
    @coldlogic800 2 года назад +1

    My RS gets boost steer as well unless I have very new very sticky tires on it. Similar set up. That's why I'm moving up to 265/50/18 or 265/30/19 wheels and tires. Right in the middle of shopping for them now. I cannot say enough about how good these cars perform.

    I am pretty sure these cars are dynoed in FWD mode and the drive train losses are nowhere near 20%, more like 8% in FWD mode. So not 480 crank, more like 430, which is still really good that is 80 HP more than stock for just a tune/fuel and an IC.

    • @ericmichel3857
      @ericmichel3857 3 года назад +1

      @@itchyonion3559 LOL yes it does, in fact you have to put it in FWD mode (even with a AWD dyno) because of how the AWD system is designed for this particular car. Most of the inertial drive train losses is from the wheel/tire, so if you are on a AWD dyno where the front and rear rollers are physically connected it does not make much difference, but if you test it on a two wheel dyno then...
      Absolute dyno numbers are meaningless, this car has been thoroughly tuned and tested many times over and we know more or less what you can get from just a tune, and it is not even close to 480. Also we have seen plenty of these cars tuned doing 1/4 mile acceleration testing, and they are no where near 480 with just a tune.

    2018 RS has limited slip differential, that focus needs it

    Those numbers are really good, but let’s remember you can achieve higher numbers than that WITHOUT being on ethanol, on the Golf R. Then again, you will need to do a clutch upgrade on the R if you start tuning it, so it all equals out.

    • @omkot
      @omkot 5 лет назад +1

      What's your point? It would come down to personal preference at that point. The R is boring af interior wise, it also doesn't have a drift mode. Again, personal preference.
