You're right Yamashita Tatsuro and Mariya Takeuchi are married. They both compose and often play or sing on each other's albums. Again they also sing in English often. Personally l love the jazz influences in Tatsuros music. His album "For you" is a real classic.
You probably learned this by now but Mariya wrote plastic love by herself. She was inspired from tatsuro songs and wrote this tatsuro kind of style music.
Been into city pop since 2014. Such a unique sound. Especially Miki. RIP Miki Matsubara. Such a shame she isn't alive to see her music having a renaissance.

From Japan. It is amazing that you guys are enjoying the music we were listening to 40 years ago. And thank you. Tatsuro Yamashita has respect for street music in the United States. Now it is rap and hip-hop, in the past it was doo-up. Tatsuro has released three albums of doo-up covers recorded multiply by himself, a series titled On The Street Corner. Japanese City Pop from the first time I listened to it, has replaced my night time drives. Straight bangers with a good sound system and people will stop you to ask what song you're playing
It’s always difficult to listen to “stay with me” when you know Miki Matsubara has passed on from this world already. It’s rather haunting to hear her singing it to you…be sure to check out toshiki kadomatsu! He’s the Man! Beaches, babes, sports cars, etc…he’s the man that all other men wanted to be like. And check out minako yoshida…one of the greatest voices I’ve ever heard. TONS of power and presence, really damn impressive
I wanted to add in, be sure to check out Cindy. Sadly, she’s no longer with us, but I feel her Music would have absolutely made urban radio in the US if she was given the chance. She even partnered with Stevie wonder on her music. And I feel her English is by far the best of all city pop artists. It’s nearly flawless and completely fluent
When I first listened to Stay with me it was only joy and happiness, but after knowing her tragic end, I wanted to hug her myself in the flesh and tell her she made priceless masterpieces that nothing can top on. She is a legend
I won't lie. I have discovered city pop just couple of months ago properly and I love it more than kpop or English artists' song. It just feels really soulful.
I really love that more people are getting into Citypop, it’s such a great genre to listen to just chill/vibe with! Love ya reactions, I can really feel your guys’ energy. Personal recommendation for anyone wanting to listen to more of it is “I love you so” by Junko Ohashi!
seeing someone appreciating the world's music rather than sticking to what they've used to listen makes me happy. Being open to different genres from different countries makes one person to be actually called a music enthusiast. Rock on guys ❣️
When i saw that you reacted to magic ways, i was so surprised! Im so glad that you guys reacted to that song… its truly one of my favorite and it holds so much memories for me. You guys get a new sub!
I'm Japanese-American and I've listened to city pop my entire life! I always associate it with the kind of music my parents listened to and old 80s-early 90s anime due to that vintage sound and vibes it gives. It warms my heart that city pop is getting a lot of recognition!
If you want the best Jpop/citypop artist look up an artist named Akina Nakamori, this artist has so much versatility in her songs, albums, and performances. Her songs Jukkai, meu amore, desire, and tango noir, are definitely some songs worth checking out
first time I heard City Pop music was through anime, Yu Yu Hakusho and a lot of 90s anime had that city pop vibe to it so when youtube became a thing in 2006 I found old tracks in a deep dive
I know about City Pop genre in Japan way back like so long time ago. I am very glad that this genre have given a recognition outside Japan. I am happy that you guys are listening those songs :)
I love city pop! The sounds are so refined, with attention to detail. Above all I like that veil of melancholy that always shines through. Have you already listened to Taeko Ohnuki? I recommend Mignonne, a beautiful album
I'm happy to have started on City Pop as a kid in the 90s, it allowed me to own some really rare gems on vinyl and CD that are basically impossible to find these days for any less than several hundred dollars to even over a thousand dollars. I'm happy that the resurgence and new popularity is giving new found wealth to many of these artists or their estates and even some re-releases have come out of it.

But yeah !! Little niche genres like this need more love

Time to cry. Miki was diagnosed with uterine cervic cancer, which she kept a secret for a long time from people and carried on with her music career. she battled cancer for 3 years. 2 months before her death, miki wished nobody would listen to her music and said she had regretted her music career as a whole, because she spent her life being too focused on making music and didn't live her life fully enough. miki spent the last 2 months of her life with her family, and later passed away at the age of 44. she told her husband that she wished she could restart her life again and live it more fully. Live lives that make you feel fulfilled if today was your last day.
It really goes to show that no matter what music youre into, what your specific vibe is; City pop will ALWAYS make you feel good and happy and adds a few minutes of peace into your life
I can’t believe those songs were from 40 years ago!? They sounds very sophisticated and so cool even now. I used to listen them at my teenage years back in high school in Japan.
City Pop has been around for decades and is a deep dive! One of the best at it is Casiopea although they’re an all instrumental band. Influenced many! Been a fan of this genre since the early 2000’s when I was in high school. It transports you to a special place every time
Dude this was so fun to watch, i would 100% recommend airport lady, spacescraper, and City of silver gray for a next video, i'm 100% sure ya'll will love it as they're all amazing songs. Also, from tatsuro yamashita, you could listen to sparkle, loveland island, and daydream. I wish the best for ya'll keep enjoying and increasing this epic genre's reach!
This was a wholesome vibe. Super fun watching you guys just chill to these. They're 3 of my favorite City Pop songs. I recommend Bay City by Junko Yagami. There's an extended version too.
You could/should react to Tatsuro Yamashita's _Let's Kiss the Sun._ It's even more "summer vibes". Also, Anri's _Windy Summer._ Both pretty nice. (Please thumbs up if you'd also like to see it!)
Miki Matsubara is very popular within the Gundam community. Her opening for Gundam 0083, "The Winner", was shown on Adult Swim back in the day in the early 2000's. Sadly she past away shortly after retiring in 2000 due to late state cancer and died in 2004.
I'd always heard of City Pop but never thought to give it listen until more recently. I've started rewatching some of my favorite retro anime from the 80's, where quite a few opening songs are easily inspired by City Pop. I've been listening to Takeuchi Mariya on repeat for a few weeks now and I think I'm in love. Lol Music (as well as other art forms) allows those with the most open of hearts to transcend trivial things like skin color and hate. Take care y'all. 🍍
Man, you really know good shit. Big wave is also my favorite city pop. Because I love that album so I watched the documentary. The music is completely amazing with the visuals. It’s very different than only audio. That music tells the story with the video. Especially the one “your eyes”, that’s one of my favorite songs in the documentary. The first time I heard this song I just thought it’s simply a love song. But when I saw the documentary, I realized it’s a kind of love to something you try so hard and even when you failed a lot of times, but every day when you wake up you will still doing it until you make it. Dude highly recommend this documentary, it’s amazing!
"Plastic Love" probably holds the record for the longest delay of music video release: the song was released on 25 March 1985, the video came out on 12 November 2021.

it’s so wholesome watching y’all vibe and look at each other as y’all are bumping your heads to the music 😂🥰 warms my heart haha

Kingo hamada - midnight cruising

Love seeing more people enjoying the vibe that is city pop
I love Japanese City Pop! Some solid pop-r&b jams for sure. Plastic Love is one of my favorites.
Facts, so soulful. You have any other favorites?

P.S. I just learned that Mariya & Tatsuro are married!
i haven't heard these songs for so long! seeing someone else also enjoying it is so refreshing and it brings back nostalgia
Did you listen to them when you were young?
Toshiki >< I love his music too especially No end summer, maybe it's love affair >
I wished Miki didnt had to be so hard on herself like blaming herself for what happened to her.
本田 美奈子?
I won't lie. I have discovered city pop just couple of months ago properly and I love it more than kpop or English artists' song. It just feels really soulful.
80s Japanese music has always been popular throughout East Asia and Southeast Asia. I grew up hearing these from my mother's cassette collection.
I really love that more people are getting into Citypop, it’s such a great genre to listen to just chill/vibe with! Love ya reactions, I can really feel your guys’ energy. Personal recommendation for anyone wanting to listen to more of it is “I love you so” by Junko Ohashi!
City Pop is the best, it's my favorite genre along with Argentinian Rock
You're god damn right 😊
City Pop gives me nostalgic feelings about the place where I've never come and time when I haven't been born
It's so nice to see young people appreciating this music so many years later.
seeing someone appreciating the world's music rather than sticking to what they've used to listen makes me happy.
It’s such feel good music! I’m a prek teacher and I play Michelle Phan’s city pop playlist for them 🖤
Shout out to you for exposing the kiddies to some quality music 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
I'm Japanese-American and I've listened to city pop my entire life! I always associate it with the kind of music my parents listened to and old 80s-early 90s anime due to that vintage sound and vibes it gives. It warms my heart that city pop is getting a lot of recognition!
If you want the best Jpop/citypop artist look up an artist named Akina Nakamori, this artist has so much versatility in her songs, albums, and performances. Her songs Jukkai, meu amore, desire, and tango noir, are definitely some songs worth checking out
What I see is that you aren't a rap fans. You are a real music fans. Bravo 👐🏽
first time I heard City Pop music was through anime, Yu Yu Hakusho and a lot of 90s anime had that city pop vibe to it so when youtube became a thing in 2006 I found old tracks in a deep dive
I know about City Pop genre in Japan way back like so long time ago. I am very glad that this genre have given a recognition outside Japan. I am happy that you guys are listening those songs :)
Amo el "City Pop" y a toda la música de "Tatsuro Yamashita" Es una musica súper hermosa y con una atmósfera increíble. Saludos desde México!
I love it so much “City Pop” the vibe is Amazing ❤️✨
I've been listening to this kinda music for a long time. This 80's japanese pop, is awesome.
Loved this video
City pop is one of those genres that just always brings you up whenever you listen, especially Tatsuro catalogue, his albums go crazy
City pop deserve more recognition
I will recommend for you guy to dive more into Miki's Music it's so beautiful
And for those who can't understand Japanese..., Its a Sad song 😹
It’s top tier music, I thoroughly enjoy it. I’m definitely down to do a part 2 to this series
@@WM20s i would love to see you guys react to her " Cryin' and Manhattan Wind" live performance

can you recommend me some of your favorite Mitski's songs? :)
Ahhhhh my favorite genre of music !!! Genuine gems through and through, citypop really is just so amazing !!! About these songs being sampled/used, you are right !! Known for “vaporwave” sounds, y’all should check out future funk music !! Like macross, nanidato, and many others !! Some songs I recommend are talk about love by naito, fun tonight by macross, and it’s good to see you again by adrianwave !! Ofc if you’re all able to, as I’m not sure how the whole process is like. But yeah !! Little niche genres like this need more love
Agreed! Future Funk is pretty sick too! Thank you for watching. If you're not subbed, definitely sub because we have more City Pop on the way for sure
This vibe perfectly captures the essence of city pop in 1 song
We love old school anime and city pop. Happy to know that more people are listening to it.
Thanks for reacting to City Pop!! My youngest daughter turned me on to it and that's all I listen to!!🔥🔥🔥It's a Whole Vibe 💓💓💓and Plastic Love is my favorite as well.
YES! City pop is vibes to the MAX, and we got a lot more of these on the way there are so many bangers 🔥

The vibes you guys have are insane! love it ✨
When you’re genuinely enjoying yourself, the vibes hit different 💫💫
Makes me feel good to see people loving this. I got all kinds of flak for listening to this when I was young.
City pop just hits so good when your just cruising in your car.
Awesome video! Love city pop. Definitely recommend the entirety of Takako Mamiya's "Love Trip" album. Anything by Tatsuro, Meiko Nakahara, and Taeko Ohnuki is great as well. There's soooo much more too haha

I swear more people need to find this amazing music. It's literally what I hear when I'm depressed to lift myself up.
So cool to see city pop getting some love from all over the musical spectrum. Great stuff lads🍻
Magic Ways is legit my favorite song ever. It just makes me so happy and I sing it loudly cause I love it. The best song of my life indeed
tatsuro yamashita helped record and produce some of mariya's songs and he even made his own version of plastic love filled with lots of guitar 🎸
I absolutely love Tatsuro Yamashita so this reaction makes me very happy ^^
10:33 LOVE that white headphone man. he real love that music and enjoy it
It’s music I’m very glad I discovered!
This week, I learned about the existence of "city pop."
What a week 🤯
気持ち良さそうに聞いてもらえて、この曲が好きな一人として、嬉しいです
英語は全然分からなかったけど、笑顔で伝わりました( ´ ▽ ` )
I appreciate you respect city pop. I grew up in Japan and my dad used to listen to city pop. These music bring back to so much memories. Thanks!
I had lived in Japan for 19 years and not known the second song at all
How could I have missed this great song😂
10:33 hell yea, thats not just some guitar solo, that's Tatsuro. Felt it
Really glad to see the younger generation enjoying this music!!
This was a wholesome vibe. Super fun watching you guys just chill to these. They're 3 of my favorite City Pop songs.
I recommend Bay City by Junko Yagami. There's an extended version too.
BAY CITY OMG I FORGOT ABT THAT ONE💕💕
You could/should react to Tatsuro Yamashita's _Let's Kiss the Sun._ It's even more "summer vibes". Also, Anri's _Windy Summer._ Both pretty nice.
(Please thumbs up if you'd also like to see it!)
Seeing city pop blow up like this is still shocking to me. Awesome
es inevitable sonreir cuando suena Stay with me, que canción mas hermosa madre mia
Miki Matsubara is very popular within the Gundam community. Her opening for Gundam 0083, "The Winner", was shown on Adult Swim back in the day in the early 2000's. Sadly she past away shortly after retiring in 2000 due to late state cancer and died in 2004.
Oh SHit, that was her?? Wow. Didn't even put that together that she did that OP.
Magic Ways is from the soundtrack to Big Wave movie. It is the most 80s movie I've ever seen. The soundtrack is entirely in English and is epic.
You should check out summer breeze by piper. It has a nice summer vibe to it, also loved the video dude🤙
Will Do, we appreciate brother 🙏
I LOVE CITY POP.
It’s sooo goood!!!!
Lol
Music (as well as other art forms) allows those with the most open of hearts to transcend trivial things like skin color and hate. Take care y'all. 🍍
I’m a musician I’m tell you this is the best genre in history composed very well
I feel like everyone can get behind city pop, it doesn’t matter what genre you’re into
Tatsuro Yamashita the Holy Ghost! Greatest Japanese composer of the twentieth century
Not what I was expecting lol I'm happy☺️ plastic love is a bop(≧▽≦)
City Pop is one of the greatest genres of all time!!!
Plastic Love is absolutely amazing!!!!
"Plastic Love" probably holds the record for the longest delay of music video release: the song was released on 25 March 1985, the video came out on 12 November 2021.
Love how you guys just be feeling the music
It's impossible to not vibe with such beautiful melodies!
