Stay with Me is from 1980. A lot of city pip songs were remixed in the late 2000s with extended intros and outros so yhey could be mixed in dance clubs. This is definitely one of the city pop heavy hitters. Othe big songs Platic Love (prob the biggest & the perfect pop song) Flyday Chinatown Bay City Windy Summer
The information that it was released in 1980 is incorrect. The EP was actually released on Monday, November 5, 1979, by Canyon Records (now Pony Canyon)☝
Thank you for reacting to Miki Matsubara's "Stay With Me," one of city pop's legendary hits. This song came out in 1979 and was also her debut single. She had been active from 1977 till 2000 due to illness. Sadly, she passed away 4 yrs after at age 44. I'm glad city pop is getting recognized again by the masses some 30+ yrs later. Lots of great hits from that era. There's another J-Pop genre that I feel needs to be recognized too - Shibuya-kei (1990s).
I'm korean She is citypop legend It is a legend of Japanese city pop that even Koreans know.I don't know about other Japanese singers, but this woman admits it
I’ve never been able to watch this video without crying. Just seeing her beautiful smile and knowing how sad her life was is heartbreaking to me. But this is easily THE quintessential citypop song for me along with Plastic Love.
2:20 every single person thinks they’ve heard this part. How is that possible? How much influence did this song actually have? I just heard this and it sounded familiar too. Thats why im watching any videos related to it. Crazy
This song has such a strange nostalgia to it for sure, and that part is one of the standout moments for me too. I know for a FACT I never heard it before a few years ago, because I didn’t even know citypop existed, but as soon as I heard the song, it felt like I had been listening to it my whole life.
The song is about a breakup, yet it somehow conveys an incredible sense of power and vitality for life. However, the fact that the artist has passed away is displayed at the end of the music video, which grips the heart.
you nailed it... 'sad lyrics deliverd in such an upbeat way' .. is exactly how i felt listening to it the day i had to leave japan after a six week visit 😔
The melody is similar to Michael Jackson’s song Its falling in love recorded in off the wall, version of Carol Bayer Sager song, with same name, David Foster arrangments
City Pop rabbit hole, let's goooooo! If I may recommend something, look up Omega Tribe, a city pop music project that was active from 1983 to 1995, they are amazing. My favourites from them are 1886's Kimi ha 1000% and S. Kiyokata's Never Ending Summer.
She looks soo happy singing, and she is sooo pretty 😢❤
Cervical cancer is pretty terminal… 😪
She wasn't happy. She didn't like her career
@@Twistedツ she loved singing she wasnt happy she wasted a long time to break in to a career doing it bc of her diagnosis
This bass is groovy as f*** OMG

the problem is that, Akina Nakamori completely taken her over lol. That's why Akina is so popular in japan even now
2:25 "I think I've heard that part..."
