You can save a lot of time on O&S, there was too much running away during significant enough endlag that you could've gotten in another one or two sets of damage.
In dark souls 1 you can cancel the fall animation by toggling. To do it you have to switch weapon and tap the roll button at the landing. You just have to get used to the timing and you can spam aswell if it helps. However, it can fail too but it is rare.
