  • A video of the woodlands light railway, shot in 1990.
This railway was built by my father (seen narrating the video), and was located near to brands hatch in Kent. The video shows a trip around the track, as well as an open day, and a demonstration of timber hauling.

A lovely film. Poignant though - everyone will have changed so much after all those years. Thanks for sharing.

Looked like a lot of fun! Changing the points as a loco approaches could have gone horribly wrong! Thanks for sharing.

that is fantastic...I really enjoyed it. I especially like the fact that you were able to use the railway for work, not just play...love it.

Excellent, I love it, especially the timber hauling. Did the railway get taken up, or is it still there all overgrown? what happened to the rolling stock and locos?

Excellent video. I'm looking to build a 15" railway around my garden (It's fairly large) and am trying to get info on the tightest usable curve radius versus wheel base. What is the tightest curve you have here, and what is the shortest wheelbase you run on it? I hope this superb railway is still going strong and will continue to do so for many years to come.

There is a Russian language site at irontrack.ru but it takes a while to figure these things out. They would probably call it 500 mm and they seem to specialize in smaller stuff but one is 500 mm shown as "LBZD" I think. I remember radiuses being discussed. Another Russian site is called 750mm.ru

    Thank you.

What I dug up - "The 15" gauge Woodland Railway was located at Rogers Wood, Fawkham Green, New Ash Green in Kent. Length was 600 yards, with a long wooden viaduct.
I have recorded it as being out of use by 1996, and closed and lifted by August 2008. Not sure when opened, but I first visited in April 1991."
