I remember a similar situation. I was the Russians and Antioch was one of my greats cities. I had even gotten cannon towers. At the first siege, Timur was killed in the 2nd salvo, and the elephants stampeded his army to pulp. The second siege they had two armies and somehow failed to knock down the gates, their elephants being barbecued by archers. However that battle had its losses as my cavalry were shredded by their ranged units. For the third siege, three armies. They knocked down many walls and towers using rockets. I held the gaps, but my infantry were greatly reduced. I also lost one of the 3 generals in the city. For the fourth siege, they completely surrounded me and flooded the city. I made a valiant last Stand on the Plaza with around 500 troops against 5000. We fought to the last man, and my faction leader was killed. Antioch was sacked, and they proceeded to siege all nearby cities. But they had a phyrric victory. The doomstacks of the tumurids were a memory after the siege of antioch. Around 25 turns later, I marched triumphantly back into Antioch with my new faction leader, avenging his father.
I once had a similar thing happen but in rome 2,basically i was playing with the "Divide Et Impera" mod and was playing as the Romans. i had a very bloody war with Egypt and lost a lot of my veteran units from previous wars and a lot of my generals attacking them in the north and the east. First Invasion Had around 5 full stack armies and an extra 30 units in reserve and around 35 ships for the invasion.went into Egyptian lands near Antioch and got fucked by there Mamelukes(most of my army were auxiliary units at that sector of the front) one of my best generals was there and died in the 3rd battle in the northern sector of the front. the eastern sector had much better time due to the more Roman/standard units there but was halted when they reached the main Egyptian lands and lost a around 15 good units from that stuff. Second Invasion This time i had trained around 150 more units for the invasion and 50 ships since the ships were not used in the previous invasion. i got better progress in the northern sectors and managed to get to Damascus but an army of 6 full stacks got to me and although i fucked a lot of there army, i lost good, veterans and expensive units fighting them. The southern sector had been stagnant and was defensive. Third Invasion final time taking them and i demolished them but at a very heavy cost and my eastern settlements got taken because of the lack of troops. Ilearned a lesson from that invasion.
I had a similar situation in Kiev. I was playing Scottland. They sacked bulgar and another town along the way. But that was part of the plan as I was strengthening Kiev. When they reached Kiev I was waiting for them with a full garrison of noble pikemen and canon towers. They took Kiev after three sieges. On the last siege they broke through and won, but I managed to kill all their family members so they disolved into rebels.
I'm currently in a low place in life. Both my parents passed in the last year and I'm in my mid-20's. Total war has always been my favorite game series and you are my absolute favorite youtuber for it. Seeing you do well and making creative videos has been a silver lining on a very dark chapter of my life. Thank you.
It would be shorter to make and some of "disaster campaigns" could be relegated to it. On the other hand, number of emails sent could be even more overwhelming, as people can view relatively easy battles for experienced players as unwinnable. I'd like it as a side series, taken from "disaster campaigns" that are really just a battle/few from being OK.
The question is not whether you will have enough of these disaster campaigns, it's whether or not you'll have enough of all of this awesome art for these thumbnails! Keep it up man, depending on how things go I might have a Sicily disaster campaign for 2020!
I got a terrible mess out of my sicily vanilla short campaign. somehow I fucked up the pope, kept fucking around for some more years, got excommunicated shortly after by a time I was at war with 3 of my european neigbours. some years later like 6 crusade fullstack armies teared through my italian homelands and two more fullstack armies from the moors, which took all my isles in the mediterranean with that. definitely a fuck up.
i was happy to see this sort of change-of-pace. it was fun to see you just un-fuck a scenario that some people may not be able to resolve easily and cause problems down the road. keep up the good work.
When I first faced the mongols in Medieval 2 I was so damn terrified. Then I figured beating them is easy af. Just entrench yourself in a city and wait for them to assault. Place any spearmen to the left side of the gates and your crossbowmen about 100 feet to the right from them. The mongol cav gets stuck fighting spearmen letting the crossbows to shoot them in the back. It takes about two to three minutes to shred three full stacks to bits and you can basically do it with spear militia and peasant crossbowmen. The AI just mindlessly storms the gates so it works every single time.
3 Years late, but to be honest this don't always work, sometimes Mongols would bring in ladders and siege towers, and if you plays eastern faction or any faction without heavy infantry you basically sucks because Mongol Infantry can always slaughter your units (even Afghan javelinmen with their high melee skills, they hold much longer but were seldom able to defeat their opponents), and the dread also do a great part of damage, in one scenario 2 of my 100 men strong saracen militia were fighting a single rocket crew, and they just decided to rout when there's one enemy left on the walls, but once I got my Hashashims things change drastically, now I can easily slaughter anyone on the walls and thus utilising my archers and naffatun (but that's another sad part, naffatuns are always the prime target of enemy archers and for once I got the entire mongol army shooting at my single naffatun unit, which almost slaughtered them).
You should make a form where people can see the rules clearly, and add fields for giving mod details, descriptions and such. Won't be that hard with google forms. Will 100% sort out a lot of non disaster campaigns
This is an excellent campaign Legend, I love it and I am glad to see that you're enjoying saving these disasters(some of which are really tricky).Keep up with these episodes, you are doing a great job.
As one of those people that came to the channel because of the series, glad to hear that myself and others like me are helping you out; look forward to more content in the future!
Honestly, I've been watching each campaign episode to see how you pick your way out of each situation, and it's been a blast each time because of how you can turn things around.
I really enjoy this series. There is a RUclipsr, who's western roman empire campaign in Attila went to complete shit. He ended up with one settlement in Iberia, I think that would be a good candidate for this series.
Your Boy Mr Mac Nope, completely different person. I was looking for a new Rome campaign to watch on RUclips a few years ago. I think that was his first time playing total war ever.
I just enjoy watching you kick ass on enemies when you are horribly broke, outnumbered and outgunned. It's inspiring to see that no matter how bad things seem, it's always possible to pull your bacon out of the fire.
I had a vh/vh campaign as Russia back when I was moderately in the game, and the Mongols came straight for me. It was a nightmare but I barely managed to pull myself up and beat them back. I still have it saved and I replay it because of how fun it was. no total war game has ever been that fun.
I think that besides the bugginess, ETW is annoying because of how public order works. It's very hard to conquer land, you need to make things slow to not be overwhelmed by rebellions
Legend I have a great one for you, it definitely fits the guidelines cause I was totally listening. It's a Europa Barbarorum campaign (you do mods right?) I still have quite a few settlements and a couple armies but it's totally an epic disaster. It'll probably take like 4 or 5 episodes to fix. You want them to be long right? I was paying really close attention to your guidelines and everything, I think this fits perfectly

Best of luck to you in the future, I respect the fact that you kick ass in this game and that you live up to your name

Hey Legend, I would love to see you do faction overviews (troops, starting positions, opening strategies) for Medieval 2 factions and other Total War series. I think people would like to see that from you. Keep up your videos, we learn so much from you.
I know it's an older video, but dont ever worry about sounding ungrateful; what you do for complete strangers is something most people rely on older siblings for: help them beat video games. I think it makes sense that your mental health improved, what you're doing is a good thing. It's like you're some kind of big brother for hire, but you work for free. It's not the most pressing need anyone has, beating a video game, but getting any kind of help in a time of need can make a big difference in a person's life.
just a point Genghis Khan was known to be occasionally very merciful sparing lives of those whom showed both bravery and honesty at the same time, of course he was brutally merciless to those whom he saw as decievers or greedy.
This battle makes me think of a battle in my venice camp where I was extremely outnumbered and got many kills by using the towers to lure the milanese armies, lost the battle in the end because of a mistake. But I took venice back the next turn because only the milanese general remained alive after that battle.
I played Spanish defending Jerusalem, I swarm their elephants with my jinetes to set them running amok and got victory without further efforts. Unfortunately the general managed to flee.
Do you guys remember his retiring videos, or in general HIM from like 3-4 years ago? Its nice to see that at least his life is changing for the better. I am really glad to see that after all these years of watching legend's uploads, he finally enjoys himself. Good work legend!
I'm just imagining Genghis Khan going through history and saving empires by the "everybody dies!" mentality: "My word, you saved our entire kingdom! What will you do next?" *Genghis turns and stabs the King twelve times through the throat and chest.* "Everybody. Dies."
Same problem here. I tried a new campaign and won before the Mongols even showed up. I wish I was new and could learn the game again. Most fun times I had were struggling trying to figure out how to beat the enemy and deal with the politics and strategy. I can't get that anymore.
Just come up with some horribly restrictive roleplays. One that I use for medieval two is to play as a catholic faction and not piss off the pope. So whenever he tells me to not fight someone for X turns I have to obey. Forces me to slow down
@@sikkableeat5614 I know, right? I played medieval 2 when it first came out. I was around 13/14 I think. Something like that. Until I saw this video I didn't even know timurids existed in that game. 9:59 "medieval 1 are just crushing constantly" I had the same problem. Then just set 2x anti-aliasing in video drivers settings and Medieval1 start running without issues.
Since a couple of patches, battles on DEI have been around 20 minutes average for me (even less with the recent experimental pack) but yes, it's still a mod gearded towards slow expansion
I controlled the whole map by then and was rich so i paid 3 of their armies, they were standing still and if i were to engage it chained 4 of their armies together, quite boring. When I faced them 1v1 I used a battery of 5 basilisks to rout the elephants. rest were spearmen and crossbows. Still challenging since the silver-exp armies do not break easily at all.
Oh yeah, right from the off: this guy is fine. I've fucked up Timurids with cannon towers and a few cannons on the ground hundreds of times. As for canon towers being OP, I think that's an unavoidable compromise, because I don't think Total War can handle the scale of battles and sieges which was imposed by Trace Italienne cannon fortification and the military revolution between 1430 and 1730. Because they aren't going to model city walls on the Trace Italienne scale, with 30ft deep angled bastions and mutually covering wall cannons, they have to make do with easily destroyable towers (assuming the besieger has long range cannon and uses them sensibly). And allowing the late period fortifications to butcher old fashioned armies lacking long range guns and muskets is appropriate historically - modern fortifications could butcher Mongols with ease.
Perhaps you could classify the saves you get. The campaign is build up using 3 important factors: money, land and armies. I'd say if you don't have 2 of these, it's a disaster. Like you could have 5 settlements but no money or armies, or a big army without the money to support it, and so forth. If people judge by these factors before they send it, it might be easier for them to recognise a disaster.
WAIT what, can someone clarify to me. at 4:20 ish do you need troops adjacent to the towers to make them fire? Or are the flags just clipping to the towers or something?
I had a Rome total war save file which was my first ever game. I don't think I pushed far enough into Gaul as the Julii Family and I was broke and owing money. XD.
Tbh I enjoy watching you play the historical (or equivalent) battles in each total war. I'm sure others do too. You could perhaps have a similar series where you focus on only winning a single battle or winning against a single force (e.g. 3/4 full stacks). "Against the odds battles" or something xd
Yeah but what if they have rocket artillery and the rules as well and break the wall right away. Normally I put shitloads of archers on the wall to fire on them inside as they try and reach the center
This may sound really odd coming from a random who enjoys each video you've uploaded so far from your disaster campaign series but I wish I could help filtering all the save files for you since I've literally got nothing else to do right now in my life and I love total war more than pretty much any other game I've owned. That's also really tough to say since I've owned Halo Reach for over 10 years or so
"if you've got 5 settlements but you're like half a million in debt - that's a disaster"
oh boy the foreshadowing

I realy like your videos, i am realy glad that your Channel has took of.
save my disaster mariage next idea send wife
This episode should be called “how to cheese the AI 101”
Love the series and the streams.
“War hammer is outdated”while playing Medieval Total War 2. 😀
Why is it so hard to figure out what legend wants? he's been so clear so many times lmao
9:59
"medieval 1 are just crushing constantly"
I had the same problem. Then just set 2x anti-aliasing in video drivers settings and Medieval1 start running without issues.
I think some shogun 2 disasters are probably the worst you can end up in a situation outnumbered with yari ashigaru vs yari ashigaru. No win situation
Since a couple of patches, battles on DEI have been around 20 minutes average for me (even less with the recent experimental pack) but yes, it's still a mod gearded towards slow expansion
Bought TOB and thought I would love it. I ended up just down right hating it. The ugly cousin TWG hit every branch coming down the stupid tree.
Loving the content mate
Killed 3 birds with this video. enjoying this series Legend
In one of my campaigns the moguls went to Constantinople also
Genghis Khan for hire, everybody dies lol
Now I know how the Maltese order survived the Ottoman invasion - they just hired Legend's ancestor :p
Genghis Khan showed mercy in Baghdad to 20.000 christians. He was asked to not kill them by his wife or daughter can't recall
Bad-ass player man
Great job, Legend
Would love to see a third age total war one tho
That is how I repealed timurds in Prague
This is good this is what we want.
Would be more then happy to help go through the save files and atleast help sort out the ones that are not disasters for you
i just want you to break the 1 hour 2 hour videos into 30 minute videos
You can create 1 more folder for total war with mods and also keep the vanilla
Yeah but what if they have rocket artillery and the rules as well and break the wall right away. Normally I put shitloads of archers on the wall to fire on them inside as they try and reach the center
Very good legend !
Tbh if i had to conquer the whole map in Europa Barbarorum, I would be in a shitty state too.
Fuck now i feel bad for not having any disaster campaings lol
Why did he even send in the save when he got cannon towers haha
This may sound really odd coming from a random who enjoys each video you've uploaded so far from your disaster campaign series but I wish I could help filtering all the save files for you since I've literally got nothing else to do right now in my life and I love total war more than pretty much any other game I've owned. That's also really tough to say since I've owned Halo Reach for over 10 years or so
