    I've broken several glencairns which I only use occasionally, but miraculously never broken my Canadian glencairns that I use as my everyday glasses for the past 4 years. I think the glencairn was designed to projectile out of soapy hands in a marketing ploy to make people buy more and have to get more stitches.

      Dan is veeeeeery good at breaking glens while washing them.

    I use a Waterford Crystal Bourbon glass that was my grandfathers. It does the trick. Of the glasses you have here it is closest to the Neat glass. It is just made of crystal instead of glass, and is thicker.

    Gotta agree here! Glencairn is just a perfect all-arounder. Rocks glass is a great staple, especially in the summer when you want an ice ball or stones in there to chill it. I recently got a Stormtrooper double walled glass and it's cool to look at but awkward to drink out of. Cheers, guys!

    Have yet to get a D&L bourbon glass, but I use their regular whisky glass all the time. Good heft, easy to hold, and the widest point provides the perfect fill line for a 60mL pour. Just wish they weren't so damn expensive.

    Great video but I wish you used what is my personal favorite glass - Riedel "Single Malt Whiskey Glass"
    I've gone back and fourth between that and the Glencairn, and consistently find myself going with the Riedel. Seems not many whiskey connoisseurs are familiar with them unfortunately.

    While I enjoy the presentation in a glen and the ability to swirl more easily for nosing purposes...I also have a physical nose issue liken to Sean's...haha! In the end, I LOVE ROCKS GLASSES! I actually have a smaller rocks glass which is my personal favorite. Small rocks glasses for the win in my book! The only one I really want to add to my collection is a Denver & Leily beacuse it looks swanky as hell.

    I feel like the Norlan vapors leave the glass way to fast. I also have the Libbey neat glass which I like to use the most because it seems like you can keep going back and still get the nose. The Libbey also feels great in the hand with nice pour for tasting. The Norlan also is light weight but it does look cool. Rocks glasses are best for just that and for cocktails.

  • @StillLivinginthewoods
    @StillLivinginthewoods 4 года назад

    I have a couple of Schott Zwiesel whiskey nosing glasses that I really like for critical whiskey drinking.
    They're shaped very similarly to a Glencairn but larger so the vapor is not as concentrated, and with a different type of base so no "pinkie out" feeling.
    Quality glasses made in Germany, and not too expensive,... about the same as a Glencairn.
    My favorite casual drinking glass is the Libbey Craft Spirits Tequila Glasses,... just a nice rocks glass.

    Almost all of my glasses came from holiday gift sets.
    In order of liquid capacity design, my favorite glasses to drink from are:
    Glenlivet Rocks - 10oz
    JD SB Crystal Glencairn w/o base - 8oz
    Glenmorangie barrel shaped Rocks - 8oz
    I have a couple traditional Glencairn glasses but prefer to use them for cordials.
    I've been toying with getting a couple of those Norlan glasses but the $$ has been a sticking point. However, after watching and listening to your comments about them, $$ may not be a sticking point any more.
    Leave it to San Francisco to have a glass shaped like a spittoon 🤮
    I'm really liking that Denver glass, too 👍

  • @MrIceman2307
    @MrIceman2307 2 года назад

    Great comparison and video. Neat glass fan here. Got a kick out of the flower pot knock, lol - however, function over form...if it is used by the judges at the annual SF Spirits competition then there must be something good about it. There is another Neat version that has a bigger base with separation like the Denver & Liley glass and it is quite solid / hefty to hold. To me, the glen has way too much ethanol burn up the nose on higher proofs that takes away from the taste and while the rocks glass is classic it doesn't seem to enhance the flavors as much. Cheers! 🥃

      @@mrtomatolord There's nowhere near that much difference in the glassware that there is in the different whiskey's, Ardbeg is gonna be Ardbeg in both a Glen and a plastic cup. its gonna be better in the Glen but a rocks glass won't transform it into Dalwhinnie...
      You'd be better off with tree different Whiskeys and drink it from a milk glass than one Whiskey in 3 different glasses...
      But there's a lot of preference involved in choosing both whiskey and glassware, and if you have a Whiskey you really like then experimenting with different glassware might be a good idea, maybe you really like Ardbeg in a rocks glass even tho you prefer the Glen when you drink Dalwhinnie..
