- What’s happening in this “The Wolfman” movie clip?
When the moon is full, an old man turns into the Beast, a killer werewolf. The inhabitants of the city try to create a trap in order to kill him in the woods. They attached a deer to a pole, and in front of that, they dug a big hole. As expected, the werewolf fell in the hole. However, one of the men fell too and was killed by the werewolf. Trying to see what happened, another man approaches the hole and gets pulled in and also killed by the werewolf. The other villagers are firing into the hole but without luck. The werewolf jumps out of the hole and starts killing all the men that are shooting at him with his big claws. Two men try to escape but are soon met by the beast. One of the men tries to kill himself, but he has no more bullets in the chamber, so the werewolf cuts his head off. Inspector Abberline (Hugo Weaving) arrives, but it’s too late.

What’s the “The Wolfman” movie about?
Lawrence Talbot's (Benicio Del Toro - who also starred in Sicario, Guardians of the Galaxy and Snatch) childhood ended the night his mother died. After he left the sleepy Victorian hamlet of Blackmoor, he spent decades recovering and trying to forget. But when his brother's fiancée, Gwen Conliffe (Emily Blunt from A Quiet Place, The Devil Wears Prada and The Huntsman: Winter's War), tracks him down to help find her missing love, Talbot returns home to join the search. He reunites with his estranged father (Anthony Hopkins - who also starred in The Mask of Zorro, Silence of the Lambs and Meet Joe Black).
He learns that something with brute strength and insatiable bloodlust has been killing the villagers, and that a suspicious Scotland Yard inspector named Abberline (Hugo Weaving) has come to investigate. As he pieces together the gory puzzle, he hears of an ancient curse that turns the afflicted into werewolves when the moon is full. Now, if he has any chance at ending the slaughter and protecting the woman he has grown to love, Talbot must destroy the vicious creature in the woods surrounding Blackmoor. But as he hunts for the nightmarish beast, a simple man with a tortured past will uncover a primal side to himself one he never imagined existed.

This movie was proof that big budget werewolf films *CAN* work, hollywood. But of course everything has to be "what critics want" The Wolfman 2010 was a fantastic reboot and one of the more grittier werewolf movies I've ever seen. With a great cast and more realistic spin on lycanthropy, while also tying into supernatural. But what makes it work more for me is the violence, because it wasn't pg-13. Sometimes "what critics want" is NOT what audiences want.
I completely agree, critics aren't everything and neither are reviews. It's up to the audiences to decide whether a movie is good, or bad
Oh I totally agree. I think though that the transformation could have been more 50/50 CGI/practical rather than just pure CGI. Much like they do when hes fully turned. Mostly because they hired the LEGEND that made the American Werewolf in London effects, specifically the transformation in that film. You can tell they were going for that same thing except full CGI, which to me again was a waste of hiring that guy. CGI and practical if paired correctly are the perfect marriage. Great CGI makes the impossible possible, but great practical effects makes the impossible look real.
So explain why the movie flop then
@@Samuel-wk8vs box office numbers don’t matter. The thing flopped at the box office and it was later a cult movie. This movie made 142.6 million in the box office.

I freaking love this movie. It pains me that it's so heavily criticized. Yes it has flaws but overall it's a pretty damn good horror
Lies again? Balls Of Wolves
It is one of my favorites.
Its a very underrated movie.
@paulie.walnuts2838 I agree, and this movie is one of the best werewolf films from Universal Pictures.
I love it, too.
I like the difference between the two werewolves. The elder Talbot kills anyone just because he’s a sadist. Lawrence on the other hand attacks those that attacked him first
That's not true. He kills several innocent people when he transforms in London.
A small detail I really appreciate about this scene is that the last guy who gets caught in the swamp doesn't fall under the Hollywood revolver curse. If you count his shots, he actually shoots six times before running out of ammo
Omg yesss
straight facts
what the hell is the hollywood revolver curse?
I love how at 2:24 he’s like “You sons of bitches stole my kill!!”
“And now I’ll reap you apart 💀🐺”
Definitely a realistic transformation into werewolf. Even the way Lawrence behaves when he transformed into a werewolf is done well. He is brutal. The make up artist did a great job on designing the beast and deserved that Oscar nomination.
The artist is Rick Baker, one of the best, and he won the academy award that year.
@Brandon Allen thanks for telling the name of the make up artist. It is much appreciated.
it could have been , have Rick Baker been allowed his own way. instead they decided to crap up his efforts by adding CGI and removing some practical effects ( I am a fan of Baker sir for his PEs in movies ) . one of the downsides.
@@brandonallen3289he did makeup for Michael Jackson’s Thriller!
I think Del Toro did Lon Chaney Jr. proud.
Why is this movie so hated? It's probably one of my favourite werewolf portrayals ever. He maintains that classic Universal Wolfman look, but is 100 times more threatening and deadly. He looks like a killing machine, and is, but still manages to have a sliver of humanity.
Well they didn’t give him at least a short muzzle/snout to be a little more wolflike but overall good movie

@@antonio39776 what about Dog Soldiers 2002?
I loved this film, just how it gave the idea that turning into a werewolf wouldn't be as a nice thing as you would expect "oh yeah, I can turn into a human-wolf creature" without acknowledging the fact that your body would actually break bone and meld to form it in the first place. I reckon it would be excruciating. Not just physically, but your mind would be broken too.
Reminds me of a short story I wrote for my creative writing short stories class. I described what was going on as bones cracking, breaking, and stretching, as well as muscle and tendons stretching and popping. Did whatever I could to describe what was going on. I think I mentioned the character spitting up, coughing, or throwing up blood as well.
M
Well that, and becoming a murderous cannibal without any control over it. No; becoming a werewolf is a little over rated.
Just watch “American Werewolf in London” and tell me that wouldn’t be painful.

You mean Skyrim.
@@502nickster Yes I threw a reference in there lol. I mean an actual full on game where you’re the protagonist and a werewolf.
Nobody has ever done that, it would be so awesome. Yes, skyrim has mods that make werewolf even cooler. Still not the same as it should be.
I could work but I think it has to have a little more to it. Maybe you start as a hunter, looking for the werewolf and trying to kill it. You eventually find it but get bit in the process. You do manage to kill it but now you're the werewolf. You terrorize the countryside and now are being hunted. Then like you said, you rampage through people. Maybe you find a secret society of werewolves and now have to serve them for killing on of their own, while another secret society of hunters look for you and your group. Idk just a random idea. Sounds like most werewolf movies jumbled into a game.
or getting chased by it. that would be terrifying.
This movie goes with how painful it would be to change into something else

What I love about this movie is they used prosthetics and makeup for the wolf, sure they used computers for some of the scenes, but I feel like they are paying homage to the original films back in the day 🙂
I believe it was just the transformation scenes where they used CGI. When he's fully transformed its all practical. It's the same thing in the Underworld movies. The werewolf and lycan costumes are all practical. It's only the transformations that are CGI.
Well it could have been better if the werewolves at the very least sported short muzzles
I would love to see this in a game, the wolfman free roam, going on a violent rampage and make the graphics look real, the killing and the blood too. And call this game “The Wolfman”
I would love to play that game 😀

Honestly this is a FUCKING DOPE ass movie
This movie didn’t get any credit and it should have. Just that one part alone where the guy goes into the quicksand and the Wolfman rips his head clean off is awesome 👏🏼
CGI is subtle but not over done, just enough to make it look unsettling. Best werewolf film in the last twenty years. Screw Van Helsing and Underworld
Van Helsing was despicable. Underworld 1 and 2 were not bad IMO, the rest were crap.
No you can’t say Van Helsing and Underworld were bad they all had different storylines but when it comes to a great movie this one delivers so much…
Howbout Van Helsing, this film, Underworld AGAINST TWILIGHT!

I absolutely love the struggling transformation. The human fighting to keep control while the beast slowly and inevitably takes over. Bones being broken and reshaped, teeth being forced out and sharp ones taking their place, fingernails being rip out and claws replacing them.
I love watching the painful transformation. It really plays into the “being cursed” trope. You go through so much pain and it’s not your choice and you have no control over the beast. It’s brutal and I love it 😎

The moment I heard that howling in the movie theater, I had chills and shivers crawling all over my body, like it just got really cold in there.
I was like "holy cow!! That's something new!!" And what I meant by that was there are a number of werewolf movies where they've used the same type of howling sounds that were also used in other werewolf movies.
But of course, the howl you hear when the inspector jumps on his horse and at the the closing end of the movie was also used in VAN HELSING 2004.
The transformation is far more disturbing in the Original Script(not edited yet), they skip some part and dialog while he transforms which makes it shorter.

I loved this movie. I think it’s an amazing reboot and glad we got it. Now when this scene happened I was like wow but my favorite part is when the werewolf kills the last man off screen. You know what’s happening but you don’t see which makes my mind pictures what the werewolf could be doing to him. You see the man terrified and shoots randomly towards a sound he heard only to then realize that the werewolf was right next to him the whole time just waiting in the darkness in the tree just to then pounce and attack. The only thing you hear is the werewolf growling with the man screaming in terror and in pain, then silence for just a moment until you hear the howl of the beast which is just perfect. Again great movie

There is no doubt in my mind this will eventually become a cult classic.
This is one of the best films I've ever had the privilege of seeing. Not a movie for children. Not a werewolf that sparkles and glows in the moonlight and smells like Hugo Boss. How I loathe all those movies that are meant to appeal to an adult audience but have been stripped of all authenticity out of greed for money. Just no gore effect, otherwise the little children won't see the film. Thus, almost every comic film adaptation was destroyed. Yes, no violence, and if so, only very little with a rainbow.
If you like this film then you’ll love the werewolf movie Bad Moon 1996 And in this movie it’s rated R and there’s a sex scene and also the werewolf actually looks like a werewolf and none of that glittering teenage edgy bullshit and matter of fact the German Shepard is the hero of the story and he fights the werewolf and has a happy ending

Quanto vorrei abbracciare questo attore del film che diventa un lupo mannaro the wolfman
The title is wrong, Lawrence didn't transform into a werewolf, he transformed into a wolfman
Same thing
I think what he means is that there are two different types of werewolf. Which includes Wolfmen and werewolves. A Wolfman as shown here is a hybrid of man and wolf. Wolfmen take on a more humanoid appearance while still attaining wolf like features such as wolf like teeth. However, the face of a Wolf Man is much more human like but covered in wolf like hair. While Werewolves on the other hand have a much more wolf like appearance. The best example of a werewolf is the one from An American Werewolf in London.
