  • This is a continuation of my video, "What's inside an electromechanical pinball machine?" where I talk about the different playfield elements and how they work. This video is in essence exploring the different mechanism that you as the player are intended to see, and how they work. The mechanisms that relate to machine operation (for instance the relays and stepper units) will be discussed in a future video.
You can find a link to the original video here:

Dear god thank you. You literally immediately answered the biggest question I had about the electromechanical workings of a pinball machine by addressing how flipper solenoids don't explode. I've only ever dealt with linear solenoids in the nerf modding hobby and rule number 1 has been making sure the solenoid doesn't stay activated because problems WILL happen, fast. So when I have been watching videos of people holding down the left flipper during multi-balls, I have been sitting there in agony wondering if the machinery was being damaged!

Thanks for the in-depth explanation... I had been a sub of your other channel for years, and tripped over this one while researching some pinball, and I was like "is that.... wow he looks young!"

Really enjoy these videos - great introduction to maintaining / repairing these old machines. I recently bought myself a Duotron (I was 13 when the machine was new...) and while it's in great shape I imagine I'll be digging in to tweak, adjust, or repair sooner or later!

Hope you could help me! I'm having trouble identifying a part I need to fix a pinball machine. Very new at this but can't find it in your videos. It's the part that takes the ball after it goes into the ending hole, and brings it back to be shot into the game again with a pull. This part was missing from my smaller sized pinball machine when I got it and I have looked everywhere on the internet to figure out what it is called.
