I am a total hat girl 😊.. There is always a hat on my head when I leave the house.. I have loved wearing hats for many years.. but several eye surgeries forced my to wear hats that have larger brims to shield my eyes from the sun or any bright light.. so most of my hats have a wider brim.. but I do have a few summer menswear inspired hats which I wear if I'm not out in the sun.. and yes I have a large assortment.. summer and winter wear, casual, dressy and of course "sunday" hats 😄

Last week I went over to my brother's house and helped his bride to be sew her wedding dress. They got married on mother's day and it was lovely!!! She used to sew wedding dresses for extra income when her kids were little and she had her dress pattern for a LONG time. It turned out great, but it was a close call. :) Kara
Your pants do look great. I love hats. I'm very fair skin so use hats in the sunshine as do my sisters. They can be fun to make and customize. As far as formal dresses, when I was in college one of the ways that I made a little extra income was to make formal dresses for my friends. I was young so had no fear of fabric or style, I just went for it with my straight stitch old Singer machine. Today with my fancy machine and a few more years of experience I don't want to touch satin or velvet, but back then no problem.

I unpicked the bodice of a dress so many times this weekend that I ended up with a small hole in it but I was so determined to get it right. I did! And despite the hole, I am definitely going to be wearing this blinking dress that I sweated blood over! 🤣. I do like it when you show you wearing your creations- you inspire me to hang in there. Your cargo pants were amazing! And as for hats, I do love a big floppy sun hat or one of my handmade reversible bucket hats that I make for everyone (whether they want one or not!) Thanks again Jen

I have a BIG head. Lol 😆 So, hats that fit me are a rare find. I wear my big floppy gardening hat, to protect my face and shoulders from the sun. I also have a couple of cowgirl hats. Occasionally, I’ll wear my one baseball cap. When I had cancer and lost all my hair, I made myself a whole bunch of newsboy style caps out of flannel and fleece. (Without hair, your head gets Cold!) I love hats, but don’t often wear them…but I am known to wear silk flowers and other large hair adornments!
The cargo pants turned out great and the fit is spot on. I have great news I got my new sewing machine today. It is the Brother HC1850 . It came rather late around 4pm so I basically just got it unpacked & plugged in to see if it had power. I did get to watch the dvd before hubby just had to have his dinner. I can’t wait to get up in morning & try it out.I have about 3 things to finish and then can’t wait to start on some new things. I love hats . I can remember when it was fashionable when women wore hats & beautiful white gloves.
I like the idea of hats, but I have a very small head and the only hats that fit are children's. If i was lucky enough to go to the Kentucky Derby, I would need to get a hat pattern and make it myself. I ❤ the cargo pants.
Well I live in Paducah Kentucky and I only wear a ball cap (even during Derby) when I mow.😂. I think that some people look fantastic in hats and can carry it off. Not me though 😥. Happy sewing!
I love the Facinators but for me I don't wear hats. I'm Catholic and as a child we had to wear a hat in church. I wore chapel veils or paper if I forgot my hat...LOL. Thanks for asking the question because I haven't thought about my chapel veil in years. Love the videos.

Love, love, love hats! I have a good collection of them and usually wear one to church every Sunday. I’m of course in the minority as only 1 or 2 other ladies sometimes wear them; but I don’t care! I’m sometimes referred to as ‘ the hat lady’. When I travel by air, I wear it onto the plane, remove it after take off and replace it when deplaning. Hats of all types are so feminine!

I can't for the life of me understand why they were worn in public. Prince Andrew's daughters (Eugenia and Beatrice) seem to be especially challenged in picking out hats, fascinators and clothing. So glad you had success with your pants. I tried to make a pair this week and it was a learning flop!!! Hahaha. Oh well I keep trying unfortunately as the body gets older it has more fit issues. Hello Jen. Another great Friday Sews. Your parrot fabric is beautiful. I can’t wait to see what you make. I had the best Mother’s Day ever. My kids really went out of their way to make me feel so special and loved. God truly blessed me with each of my children. In response to your questions, I had a sewing business for 1991-2008. I did everything but mostly wedding gowns, bridesmaids dresses, flower girls and all the men’s attire. I loved it. I had to stop when we had adopted a sibling group and went from 3 to 6 kiddo’s overnight. I did still sew for friends and family. I have always loved hats. I wore one at the Kentucky Derby. I don’t know the name of the style I wore. It was very big, navy and white nylon straw and of course the matching bag. What fun that was! I wear so many kinds. I have lost most of my hair due to illness. I wear hats a lot. They’re my go to when I’m in a hurry. I also wear wigs and turbans or scarves. I would love to see you in some. Hi Jen, Love the pants! I have never made a wedding dress but I made my prom dresses. I was also in Job's Daughters and we had formal events. I made all my formals for those events as well. I wear a sun hat with a visor when I go for my daily walk. And occasionally a baseball cap. I think hats look lovely on so many people. My daughter had a hat collection with such a wide variety of hats. It was fun seeing her collect them. Take Care
I’ve sewn one prom outfit that was not traditional prom at all! I’ve sewn one wedding dress and swore I’d never see another unless it was a well written designer pattern! Funny you should ask about hats! I have one or two I love that have a beach feel to them: straw, floppy, but it’s the sea shells that make them beachy! Recently I made two bucket hats! One is sewn and almost have another sewn. The other is knitted. I like my knitted one but I feel it needs a crochet flower! My bucket hats need some decoration too. So I’m back to sewing on second hat…, chow!
Oh, Jen, the cargo pants fit you so perfectly! Love the way they look. The parrot fabric is BEAUTIFUL!. I love hats--can't wear them, but love them. I will tell you a story about an incident with a hat. The day after my younger son graduated from high school (1988), my mother who had flown to Indiana from Washington and I went to our local Walmart when I got off work. (I had rose colored dress pants on.) Well-l-l-l, we were in the hat section and I put one on. It had a price tag hanging down on it. I proceeded to be Minnie Pearl (I assume everyone knows who Minnie Pearl is), and said in true Minnie Pearl fashion "howdy". Well, my dear sweet mother went to another aisle and I proceeded to wet my pants (no, not just a teeny tiny bit)--full on. I said "Mom", she said "little girl don't you know you shouldn't talk to strangers?" I said "Mother, come here". Of course, we were both laughing really hard. When she saw my wet pants, she laughed even harder. So, I had her walk behind me (I had a cart in front), and we headed toward the bathroom. Wouldn't you know it? There was a line. Finally, it was my turn. It was for one person, thankfully. I proceeded to take off my slacks and underwear (oh, pantyhose too, because I ALWAYS wore pantyhose with slacks back then). Over the hand dryer they went, and that is how I dried my clothes enough to get out of Walmart. Lesson for all the ladies who loved Minnie Pearl--don't pretend to be her in Walmart, you might end up wetting your pants. Love ya.
Love your cargo pants. I find hats seem to drowned out my face if they have any brim. However I love the fascinator look and thinkit’s a great look for a smaller sized head as I have.

Yay! A win for the pants! I have problems with sewing pants as well. I am hoping someday to find the perfect pants pattern. I have made wedding dresses and prom dresses and love it as well, but not as a business. I do alter prom dresses occasionally. I love hats, mostly the hats from the 60s Jackie Kennedy wore and a cowboy hat or a beret occasionally. I think it would be fun to wear the fascinators that we see the Brits wear. I am afraid we would look out of place here in WV.

Jen, I like the bubble skirt , the sundress and the cargos (great fit there!). I envy your slender figure. I used to fit a perfect 12-14 pattern, at most, only adding an inch to the hip. Fast forward 30 years after body changes and those days are NO more. Love watching your Friday sews, though! As for hats, can’t wear them, but so wish I could. They just look horrible on me.
I had a similar experience with top 7390. Those directions!! I've been sewing forever, but no way could I do what they asked. Wound up doing it another way. Oh well.
Yes, yes. yes...I have been eyeball deep in the wedding dress, bridesmaid, flower girl, prom and mother of the dresses. I've made them, altered them, reconstructed 2 dresses to fit the upper torso of a bodybuilder bride, cumberbun and bowtie for ringbearer, and almost every prom season I alter 10 - 20 prom dresses. Thank goodness that is over. I love hats...I have 2 hats that are like the hat worn by Olivia on the Waltons. I love those big ribboned and flowers of the Kentucky Derby attendees...but, it is so sad that ladies today have gotten out of wearing hats and gloves. I love in the old movies where people wore suits and ties to a ballgame and the ladies wore dresses, hats and gloves to all events. We've gone so casual that it doesn't matter that some wear pj's to go to the grocery store...!!! It was early a.m. when I went into labor with my babies and I got dressed to go to the hospital only to put on a hospital gown to give birth. 😯

I made my wedding dress. Funny story, my mom and I went to the bridal shop and I tried them on until I found the one I liked. My mom did some sketches and we went looking for fabric and a pattern. We went back so much the store asked us not to come back. I made a pillbox hat with veil to go with it. I also made my youngest daughter 's wedding dress. I bought the largest size in the style she liked them altered it to accommodate Mormon exposure rules, a full bust alteration going from a 44 inch bust to a 52 inch bust.
Hi there I didn't make my wedding dress, as I can always find some thing a bit wrong with many things I make 😢sew I got it made by a professional sewist, ❤. But I did make the two bridesmaids and flower girls dresses, that was way back in 1967 regards Diana 🎉

Your shirt and cargo pants are really nice and look great on you. Carole (From Sew Carole) made some cargo pants and hers were really great too. I went and purchased the pattern that she used, some linen fabric and hopefully mine will turn out wonderful also, but I do plan on making a muslin of the pattern first to make sure that they fit. As you said pants are really hard to make and I agree because no matter how long a person has been sewing, pants are the hardest thing to fit right on your body. Yes, I have made wedding, prom, bridesmaids and every other kind of special occasion dresses and only one bridezilla. When it comes to hats, the bigger the better. In England they are lucky because for many occasions they get to and are required to wear hats. Some women go for beautiful small demur hats while others go for the big bold ostentatious hats. These hats sometimes have crazy things attached to them; real birdcages with live birds in the cages, real fruit arranged beautifully, and even live flowers that they needed to water with a spray bottle right before they put on the hat, so it wouldn't wilt in the sun. Love the capris, they're so cute & look great on you! I currently have a dress waiting for me to "fix" like your skirt,it's been hanging in the sewing room closet for a while but I'm determined to fix it since I love the fabric. Top is ill fitting so l'll probably turn it into a skirt!
I love your cargo pants. I also made a pair from the New Look pattern but they are just slightly too big. Great pattern though. The only hat I love to wear is my western hat but I do wear a straw hat when I'm mowing.🤠🤠🤠

Love the pants! No! Only ball caps when it rains. My head is too BIG and too many years in uniform. I still catch myself checking that the brim is parallel and the right depth when I put on a ball cap. (Put you index and middle finger in your forehead between your eyebrows, your dings should touch the brim.)

My kids really went out of their way to make me feel so special and loved. God truly blessed me with each of my children. In response to your questions, I had a sewing business for 1991-2008. I did everything but mostly wedding gowns, bridesmaids dresses, flower girls and all the men’s attire. I loved it. I had to stop when we had adopted a sibling group and went from 3 to 6 kiddo’s overnight. I did still sew for friends and family. I have always loved hats. I wore one at the Kentucky Derby. I don’t know the name of the style I wore. It was very big, navy and white nylon straw and of course the matching bag. What fun that was! I wear so many kinds. I have lost most of my hair due to illness. I wear hats a lot. They’re my go to when I’m in a hurry. I also wear wigs and turbans or scarves. I would love to see you in some. Hi Jen, Love the pants! I have never made a wedding dress but I made my prom dresses. I was also in Job's Daughters and we had formal events. I made all my formals for those events as well. I wear a sun hat with a visor when I go for my daily walk. And occasionally a baseball cap. I think hats look lovely on so many people. My daughter had a hat collection with such a wide variety of hats. It was fun seeing her collect them. Take Care

I have one or two I love that have a beach feel to them: straw, floppy, but it’s the sea shells that make them beachy! Recently I made two bucket hats! One is sewn and almost have another sewn. The other is knitted. I like my knitted one but I feel it needs a crochet flower! My bucket hats need some decoration too. So I’m back to sewing on second hat…, chow!
Oh, Jen, the cargo pants fit you so perfectly! Love the way they look. The parrot fabric is BEAUTIFUL!. I love hats--can't wear them, but love them. I will tell you a story about an incident with a hat. The day after my younger son graduated from high school (1988), my mother who had flown to Indiana from Washington and I went to our local Walmart when I got off work. (I had rose colored dress pants on.) Well-l-l-l, we were in the hat section and I put one on. It had a price tag hanging down on it. I proceeded to be Minnie Pearl (I assume everyone knows who Minnie Pearl is), and said in true Minnie Pearl fashion "howdy". Well, my dear sweet mother went to another aisle and I proceeded to wet my pants (no, not just a teeny tiny bit)--full on. I said "Mom", she said "little girl don't you know you shouldn't talk to strangers?" I said "Mother, come here". Of course, we were both laughing really hard. When she saw my wet pants, she laughed even harder. So, I had her walk behind me (I had a cart in front), and we headed toward the bathroom. Wouldn't you know it? There was a line. Finally, it was my turn. It was for one person, thankfully. I proceeded to take off my slacks and underwear (oh, pantyhose too, because I ALWAYS wore pantyhose with slacks back then). Over the hand dryer they went, and that is how I dried my clothes enough to get out of Walmart. Lesson for all the ladies who loved Minnie Pearl--don't pretend to be her in Walmart, you might end up wetting your pants. Love ya.

Love your cargo pants. I find hats seem to drowned out my face if they have any brim. However I love the fascinator look and thinkit’s a great look for a smaller sized head as I have.

I have made wedding dresses and prom dresses and love it as well, but not as a business. I do alter prom dresses occasionally.
I love hats, mostly the hats from the 60s Jackie Kennedy wore and a cowboy hat or a beret occasionally. I think it would be fun to wear the fascinators that we see the Brits wear. I am afraid we would look out of place here in WV.

Jen, I like the bubble skirt , the sundress and the cargos (great fit there!). I envy your slender figure. I used to fit a perfect 12-14 pattern, at most, only adding an inch to the hip. Fast forward 30 years after body changes and those days are NO more. Love watching your Friday sews, though! As for hats, can’t wear them, but so wish I could. They just look horrible on me.
I had a similar experience with top 7390. Those directions!! I've been sewing forever, but no way could I do what they asked. Wound up doing it another way. Oh well.
I almost never wear hats…but when I do I usually wear baseball hats. I do have a couple of pretty hats that I wear once in a great time.
Yes, yes. yes...I have been eyeball deep in the wedding dress, bridesmaid, flower girl, prom and mother of the dresses. I've made them, altered them, reconstructed 2 dresses to fit the upper torso of a bodybuilder bride, cumberbun and bowtie for ringbearer, and almost every prom season I alter 10 - 20 prom dresses. Thank goodness that is over. I love hats...I have 2 hats that are like the hat worn by Olivia on the Waltons. I love those big ribboned and flowers of the Kentucky Derby attendees...but, it is so sad that ladies today have gotten out of wearing hats and gloves. I love in the old movies where people wore suits and ties to a ballgame and the ladies wore dresses, hats and gloves to all events. We've gone so casual that it doesn't matter that some wear pj's to go to the grocery store...!!! It was early a.m. when I went into labor with my babies and I got dressed to go to the hospital only to put on a hospital gown to give birth. 😯

Hi Jen, my sewing room is my Haven, I can turn on my music, sew to my heart content💜 Now hats- absolutely love hats but just can't wear them, but as I live in sunny Queensland I wear bucket hats to protect the face and eyes.

I made my wedding dress. Funny story, my mom and I went to the bridal shop and I tried them on until I found the one I liked. My mom did some sketches and we went looking for fabric and a pattern. We went back so much the store asked us not to come back. I made a pillbox hat with veil to go with it. I also made my youngest daughter 's wedding dress. I bought the largest size in the style she liked them altered it to accommodate Mormon exposure rules, a full bust alteration going from a 44 inch bust to a 52 inch bust.

Your shirt and cargo pants are really nice and look great on you. Carole (From Sew Carole) made some cargo pants and hers were really great too. I went and purchased the pattern that she used, some linen fabric and hopefully mine will turn out wonderful also, but I do plan on making a muslin of the pattern first to make sure that they fit. As you said pants are really hard to make and I agree because no matter how long a person has been sewing, pants are the hardest thing to fit right on your body. Yes, I have made wedding, prom, bridesmaids and every other kind of special occasion dresses and only one bridezilla. When it comes to hats, the bigger the better. In England they are lucky because for many occasions they get to and are required to wear hats. Some women go for beautiful small demur hats while others go for the big bold ostentatious hats. These hats sometimes have crazy things attached to them; real birdcages with live birds in the cages, real fruit arranged beautifully, and even live flowers that they needed to water with a spray bottle right before they put on the hat, so it wouldn't wilt in the sun. Hi Jen! I love hats, always have. I have a straw fedora that I wear in the summer. I also like caps. Big floppy hats don't look good on me.
I love your cargo pants. I also made a pair from the New Look pattern but they are just slightly too big. Great pattern though. The only hat I love to wear is my western hat but I do wear a straw hat when I'm mowing.🤠🤠🤠

Love the pants! No! Only ball caps when it rains. My head is too BIG and too many years in uniform. I still catch myself checking that the brim is parallel and the right depth when I put on a ball cap. (Put you index and middle finger in your forehead between your eyebrows, your dings should touch the brim.)
