Perfect comment!
ONE OF THE THE THE MOST UNDERRATED SONGS THAT EXIST
Wow! Glad I discovered this shiny diamond of a song.
IM HERE AGAIN AFTER 5 YEARS NOW IM 21 YEARS OLD AND THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES SONG EVER I LOVE SYNTHPOP SINCE I WAS 10 YEARS OLD
You have good taste in music,I remember when this was new.
19 years old here and still kicking it hard! Since 2002! Lol.
I love this song, it´s ahead of his time. Greetings
Que bom que essa música chegou aos brasileiros então
Coming of age in the1980s was so much fun! It's worth being older now.❤
Listening to this 5 years later, I cried and cried and they I finally died, I wasn’t water proof, it got inside.
Last night I was looking for another italo diso gem in my collection and this morning I found this amazing fabulous song.
FINALLY FOUND THIS SONG! I’ve been looking for it for a few months now.
Whenever that piercing synth comes in at the "mechanical!" parts/ chorus, i get chills. Such amazing stuff
True, a real tears of joy bringer
One of the best pieces of music ever heard. Artists should make this kind of stuff again.
They are. Search "Synthwave" and "Retrowave"
@@CharlesMichaelSidwell Those tend to come up with campy results. New wave and synthpop are generally better terms to search.
1981, I was 7 Years old ! Never heard of this Band till today ! Cool Music, I would still dance October 2020 to it ! ( If we hadn`t Pandemic , of course ...! ) #TheQuarks1981
it spurred me on to check for more hidden gems from this era - there are many out there to be discovered. this is from 1981 but I discovered it in 2020,
The "Duran Duran parts" are genius!
I love this music😍😍😍😍
Lyrically, this could have been written yesterday. Amazing how little has changed in 45 years.
The producer is Rod Bowkett, he also made software for the ZX Spectrum. Namely Dynamite Dan which is one of the best games on that platform. It's like a forerunner to Howard Jones but somehow slightly better more pure.
thanks for the info. i am a big 8bit lover and didn't know this fact!
The things you learn on RUclips. Dynamite Dan was great.
The delay synth reminds me of "Neverending Story" by Limahl which came out in 1984. The bass line mixed with the overtone synth and also the vocals remind me of songs published by Duran Duran around 1981 - 83. Oh, the chord line beginning at 0:38 sounds very very similar to the one Nik Kershaw used for "Wouldn't it be good" (1984). Also there must be several italo disco songs which were influenced by this. The Quarks were Martin Ansell (toured with Van Morrison, Chris Isaak, Tom Robinson, The Fixx and appeared on Top Of The Pops with Captain Sensible) and Rod Bowkett (London based composer, songwriter, musician and producer, worked with Quincy Jones and Diana Ross). Trivia: the band "President President" is The Quarks under another name. The record company, Magnet, learnt that in Germany the word Quark had some link with cheese, and insisted that a new name be found. Bowkett and Ansell, somewhat ironically, chose President President; which unbeknownst to the label is linked with a brand of cheese in France. They really must have hated cheese, I guess.
Overall, Synth Pop was more influence from Italo after 1982?
Regarding Europe and for some time, definitely yes.
intro/hook section i can hear Ashes to Ashes by Bowie, the drum pattern/bassline. Awesome
true that

Bought this on 12 inch in 81 😜👍.
I would buy a 12 inch of this this year!
Hell yes. Epic Masterpiece right there. A lot like a gem.
Theres something very David Bowie - Ashes to Ashes about the bassline and beat while that vocal hook and sound sounds Duran Duranesque. Awesome tune glad ive stumbled across.
Duran Duranesque... has to be the best term I have ever heard. Ha! Love. And you are right.
Love this song!

When a song can take you back in time... Is it a time machine

Halfaway between ELO and Duran Duran.
c'mon, Ashes to Ashes - David Bowie
Fantastic! Never heard of this band before❤
Martin Ansell's band. Try listening to his record "The Englishman Abroad" great new wave sound. The catchy track "Shine" was in the 80's movie "Better Off Dead" from 1985.
Great stuff. Keep finding and posting these lost gems!
wow, this one is so great !
Synthesizer dreams. Long live the 80"s
Helen F yeah synthezizer dreams especially in the chorus
As an IT professional myself, I have to pronounce that this song was SO AHEAD of it's time. The more you do that work, the more you merge with the machine. By the end of it, you feel like this song. Prophetic on where technology and humanity were headed.
Hi Sean, thanks for the compliments about our song... If you'd like to hear more there's a 'Quarks album' on my Bandcamp site... Best wishes Martin Ansell
@@martinansell3836 I'll check out bandcamp. I look forward to hearing more of your great music. Thank you!

It's like Duran Duran but better. 😊
Fabulous song by today's standards or 80s
Martin, thanks for connecting with all of us! This track and your work was severely unnoticed and underrated. You say there's more to come? YES!
want... more... now
Want...more...NOW
True 80's synthpop here
Such a great song. ❤
1981 was the year of transition from disco to new wave and pop.
Thank the influx of more polysynths, varied samplers, and the ever-glorious DX7
awsome someone should do a station just dedicated to genre
SOMA.FM, Underground 80's.
It's epic.

OMG what a good track!

Sere el unico mexicano que disfruta esta cancion? Great song!!!
Para nada! Todos los que estamos aquí en posteando comentarios amamos este tipo de música! mira! Solo hay 56 dislikes... versus 3.5 mil de puro amor!
Lastima que no esté en Spotify
Incredibly underrated track..
To be perfectly honest, because this song is unknown, it makes it the best. (Controversial opinion)
Max Mercury I get what you mean, like it's more personal to you.
I was listening to some new musik tracks & then this turned up.
Glad it did as it's great.
@Eli Suryana thats an interesting idea. Very much propable, or perhapse the song fell victim of bad luck, that happens a lot. Or maybe it was meant to be alternative
I don't know about that.
Ohhh yesssss
Impressive, love this song. People associate the 80s with many different things, and I know this may sound weird but I associate that time with space, the universe, I guess I am thinking of spaceships, I am thinking of those amazing Sci-Fi arts from the 70s and 80s while the song plays, something cosmic and awesome at the same time going on in this song.
Soooo good! Anyone that disagrees needs a(mechanical)ear transplant
Great song. I wonder what Chino Moreno of The Deftones would think, since this sounds similar to Duran Duran and he was inspired by Duran Duran especially in his vocal sound. You can really hear the inspiration in the cover deftones did of the chauffeur and just his vocal style when singing and not screaming or rapping. But amidst their discography their albums, and sound in general always kept evolving and there were lots more experimentation. Especially when Chino went and did projects like Team Sleep and songs that were more electronic or electronic sounding that would make it to deftones main albums or bsides/extras on special editions of white pony or on singles.
Has a bit of eighties era ELO as well.
Sooo amazing!
WANT MORE NOW!
I think if you have Mechanical as a ringtone you'll never have to worry about not getting laid. Ever.
I will execute your advice Freddy!
It’s a sure fire fanny magnet of a tune
This is President President. If you love this you'll love 'All Good Men' :)
I didn't remember that song....It's a pretty good one, I admit! Brilliant!

Awesome upload!!!…🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖👾👾👾👾👾👾👾👾
I have this single on vinyl; totally underrated.

Anyone else hear a little of Bowie’s Ashes to Ashes on the bassline?
de baul de la ptm 80s new wave forever
Probably one of the most obscure songs from the 1980s particularly from the early 80s. I stumbled across this song in Junior year almost two years ago now.
Duran Duran mixed with space disco 👍😎

I was in Tesco in Oxford, England last week and I saw the mythical Quark cheese from Germany! It's actually some weird vegan cheese which looks deeply terrifying!
Megagood!
MARTIN! Where is more?
Playful music. Light melodies and nice groove.
i missed all this shit in the 80s
Parabéns por estares na Naza ré a venderes o teu peixe...
Brilliant. Lovely chord changes, reminiscent of Nik Kershaw. Lovely mix of instruments, and wry lyrics.
I thought the exact same thing when I first heard this song too. It's very Kershaw. Funnily enough I have the shorter version of this song on my channel.
Had this been Duran Duran in 1984, then we would all be singing: Mechanical! Nice track:)
Think it's too long and and there's too much going on in order to make a chart hit. And the cover art is crap! Shame. But now we have the joy of celbarting this 30 years old undicovered gem.
