I'm just happy for Ara to cover for "normal Civ" while Civ experiments with Humankind mechanics. Sounds like a good deal to me, I'm playing ALL these games no matter what anyway.
I played it all, Civ, Humankind, old World, heck even EU4, Anno & Stellaris. Good grand strategy games doesn't come out often, so I figured why waste time hating when you can just enjoy all of em.
I kinda like that they show it's not a sausage fest, as Civ leaned heavily on ignoring likes of Joan of Arc after people kept replacing her with Napoleon in 3... xD I MEAN HOW MORE PINK CAN YOU GO THAN LITERAL SAPPHO FROM LESBOS.
I plan to buy both games, because I utterly LOVE Turn-based Historical Stategy games. I even loved Humankind, regardless of what other people thought of it.
i was in the technical betas and I really really fell in love with it. My only negative was that AI would take in turns to declare war on you for no reason.
I stopped playing Tropico 5 because my niece sabotaged me and took over the empire, without my consent 😂. Im looking for a civ type game where Im always in complete control and can just build and grow without any interruptions.
This is my first time hearing about the simultaneous turns. It sounds a lot like the Dominions games in that aspect, which could give the game its own pvp scene, where everybody takes one turn a day.
the concept was already used in the game Oriental Empires which was released in 2016, its a better mechanic since it mimics total war in a 4x environment.
Thanks for this video. Great to have a closer look at some of the appealing features in this game. I'm excited for both this and Civ 7. I just hope they're not missing magic, a la Humankind.
I am not against deep crafting systems, but usually they end into "craft only this and win the game" as someone will crack it and find the best you can craft, sell, win.
In Ara there is no one way of winning. A dev said, everything is possible, but you need to think clearly and intelligently about your path. There is no better thing to craft than another.
It's in two parts really. 1) As the game progresses players will need to make sure they're doing enough in each act to stay in the game. This will raise the stakes across the game in my opinion. 2) When Civilizations are eliminated their lands become fair game. As I understand it, they also leave behind things that can give you prestige (which is how you win the game) and essentialy independent units that will attack you. I suspect this will lead to competition between the remaining players and add a little life to a part of the game that too often becomes monotonous. Thanks for watching!
I'm really excited for this and Civ 7, I love that this is going for a more 'grounded' Anno style thing while Civ is using this release to be more experimental
I may give it a go but it does look a little cluttered, difficult to see whats going on at a glance. This might be a big problem for a strategy game or something that goes away once you are familiar with it.

Thanks for watching! Ara looks great and, I know not everyone agrees, i think Civ 7 looks fun so far too. I think they said work began on Civ 7 pre-pandemic 🙂
ARA has achieved innovation in a mature game segment. Hard to do. Big achievement. Too bad the price is also big. There will be players who have to wait for sales. This may mean a year or more before it can be picked up.
@@BiNumLi Well, no PC has a Game Pass app and you can directly subscribe to that without the need for a console. Regardless, I doubt this game will do anything new, ground-breaking or innovative. It might be a serviceable clone at best and if it succeeds, it'll do so only because Civilization 7 has shot itself in the head before even being launched.
@@TheGoreforce I was wondering if it'll be the normal edition or the deluxe, because I didn't see anywhere where they mentioned which will be on game pass
It would be great to have skill-based matchmaking... Two purposes: easy to find multiplayer and play with people with similar skills (noobs in my case). This game would shine in Multiplayer...
Simultaneous turns is nothing new and works just fine, pretty much all pvp games played by the multiplayer community in civ use simultaneous turns, at least they did back when I used to play a lot civ V mp (you can play civ with simultaneous turns, there is just no point in singleplayer) Only difference with ARa is that now not only MP but also SP will be played the same way civ MP always have been played
Civ simultaneous turns isn't quite the same tho. You still got first moves and reacting to the opponent there, since you everyone is doing the turn at the same time. Here it's you plan your turn out, then everything is processed at the same time by the game. So neither of you know what the other is doing before the turn plays out.
Anybody else feel the leader model renders need some work? Like everything is good except this one part. Seems like ara and civ 7’s leader modeling are all bad with them looking like renders from ps1 ps2 days. And it’s not like we can look past it because the leaders are presented in your huge screen at the start of each game. Like just spend a few days in blender or UE5 to polish the models and it’s good but these 2 games just seem to not care, at all. Really pushing back on the purchasing decision because of this
YMMV, I like renders in PS1/2, its claymation style models of Civ 6 I had to get used to... I still miss leaders cosplaying as eras from Civilization 3.
Simultaneous turns are far superior to taking turns like on a board game. This feels more realistic, and much more natural: You give your units their orders. When that is done, every move (yours and your opponents) are resolved. Also, this works much better in multiplayer settings, than the traditional style. I was honestly baffled why CIV never took this step. Also, why not do a real globe? It feels like CIV didn't really evolve from 5 to 6 - and definately not 6 to 7, as far as we kan see at this point.
Far too little gamaplay has been released we've seen more of Civ 7's and that's months away. Also anything to do with Brad Wardell is usually overhyped garbage.
Isn't that always the case in grand strategy games? Like name an exception, in Total War, castle-sized giants roam the earth, a power plant is like two tanks in length in C&C, grid-based games have units take same tile size as a city.
I'm quite interested in the game mechanics and I will probably buy it, but I must say the graphics look rather dull and uninspired. They need to take a look at the ANNO franchise and get themselves a better art director.
Thanks for watching! Unfortunately we weren't able to get our hands on the latest footage but I have to say I think it looks very nice. It's worth checking out on their RUclips page 🙂
