What I really like about the song is that it doesn’t depend on the context of the content to convey the story. The voices perfectly capture not just what’s happening, but also the character’s expression. It starts off with “Sonic” and Amy singing a duet. It sounds beautiful, even natural, up until the segment before they’re about to enter the ring. There, Sonic sounds off, and the sounds are not at all something Sonic would make, but Amy doesn’t care because she’s too blinded by her affection to see it. Then there’s the trap. It’s interesting because even after she was attacked, even after being blinded in one eye, and even after understanding that the thing before her isn’t Sonic and that it’s going to do the same thing it did to Knuckles and Tails, her voice isn’t afraid - but betrayed. Like she’s sorrowful about what’s happening and about what already occurred - but most of all that she won’t ever get the chance to be with her soulmate.
