I can’t lie your like the big sister I needed. Project management is something I truly want to get into and your videos have helped so much as I didn’t know anything about it. Thank you so much, God bless you in everything you do ❤️
I can completely relate, I am based in the UK and just started a new role as a Software Project Manager, with no past experience in IT or any direct Agile/Prince2 project management experience. The imposter syndrome feeling is really real! But my trust is in God. Thanks for the video!
Hey there! Sounds like we had a very similar start, all I am say is as you keep working, you’ll get better, know more and become more confident. Just keep trusting and running the course x you’re welcome lovely
You’re definitely not alone. In my experience, I let my imposter syndrome go on so long that it really broke me down mentally, significantly. Thank you so much for opening this conversation up for our communities.
Hey lovely ! Thanks for dropping this comment, and this can easily happen to the best of us. I hope you’re in a much better place now x and remember that you deserve to take up room! No matter how you feel or what they say x
Girl, I so hear you on this one! I am a Mechanical Engineer & for some of my past roles it was so intimidating being a female in a male dominated world. Indeed being a Christian has as well helped greatly, knowing that my father in heaven has my back & that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me 🙌🏾💪🏾😁 One thing for sure it gets easier with time. I love the idea of keeping a record of achievements, also helps when you have to update your CV 🤩 Thanks for sharing!
If you are in the flow and things are comming easy, you need to change pasteurs. You allways need to challenge yourself to improve. Have a little bit fear in behind you, driving you forward. Never stagnate.
I just got a Junior Project Manager position yesterday and the impostor syndrome kicked in the second I was done with the interview! It got worse after I received the notice I got the position! On top of feeling like a fraud, I also felt guilty for not feeling joyful after the great news. The feelings of impostor syndrome for me mostly derive from the fact that I feel like my English is never good enough when I speak, especially because I have a slight speech impediment, even though Native English speakers have told me multiple times that I speak eloquently and that they frequently learn new words when we hang out/work together. I just hope that I'm able to rise to this new and exciting challenge that requires lots of communication and presentation skills. I found your tips to be very helpful, especially the one about anchoring yourself in God and trusting that they have put me in this position for a reason. Love your personality and your content so much! Will definitely be watching more of your PM videos! Sending you much love from a Panamanian in the Dominican Republic
Hello Bella! And I’m so happy you’ve taken the time to drop a message 🤍 I totally understand where you are coming from. I can honestly say that your written English is eloquent ! But I also understand how you can still feel a bit nervous about navigating the corporate world with an accent/impediment tbh. People can be mean or act like they don’t understand. But all I can say is . Own it babe! Trust God and own it! Because they do understand you, they are just being lazy. The more you show people that ‘this is me’ I’m not going, so the sooner you understand the better for you! You have everything you need within you to great ! Glad you found the tips helpful. Let me know how you progress. You are in that role for a reason and you are more than capable x
@@pitolinmotion Hi Pitol! I truly appreciate your thoughtful and empowering response. It means a lot! I started training about a week ago, and it's actually going quite well. Most of my coworkers are very kind, and a couple of them are from abroad too, which I love! It's been reassuring to see them perform so well when communicating with the clients and teams during meetings with their beautiful accents! Your tips have been helping me dispel the imposter-syndrome thoughts that sometimes creep back into my system, so I wanted to thank you again for sharing those with us. You are an inspiration! Much love and blessings!
I've just found your videos and you're a life saver, i've been a PM for years and sometimes feel like i've never managed a project before. Thanks for the tips!
@@pitolinmotion I manage different types of prjects waterfall, scrum etc so it feels like i'm starting from scratch when I switch from one to the other. Especislly when it's in a new environment/company.
Ira, thank you. When we are young, colored, and women, norms always make us overthink. You have mentioned the method of applause for ourselves, which is very important and useful for me. Because when we empower ourselves, we can become stronger independently. It is so easy to be forgotten.
Also nice to know that in not alone too. You’re defo not alone... and I don’t think it’s something we have overcome in a day too. slowly but surely 🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾💕 thanks for commenting!
What an important topic! You’re honesty is so amazing - especially about the quota part. From what I’ve seen - even if that was the case initially you have totally proven they made the right decision in choosing you. This is something I deal with all the time. I always feel like people think I’m more capable that I truly am and I feel I am always trying to prove them right because the fear of disappointing them is so strong. Which is a never ending cycle because the more successes I have the more they expect! I’m a Christian too and your encouragement to believe in God’s protection and love is so beautiful. Thank you! I recently updated my resume and I found that it was a great source of encouragement…I’m going to keep that handy for those insecure times.
I love this! And thanks for opening up about your experience too . It is an ongoing battle but I pray we continue to grow in confidence. Because really that’s all we need, like you said . You are already capable. You go on and smash it out there! Gods got us ✨🙌🏾
I was super excited when I was hired as a PM, but then I started feeling that I was not qualified enough and alone. I was the only black person in the department and the only PM. I will do the google PM certificate. Thank God I found your videos it's the guidance that I was looking for ❤ and thanks for your honesty! God bless you 🙏
I am a 52 yo black woman who is looking to transition from a legal admin to project management. Thinking about breaking into PM at this stage brings up many dynamics including the imposter syndrome. Your videos are truly inspiring. Thank you. Continued Blessings to you.
Hey Cindy! Lovely to meet you. And thanks for commenting, nice to know I’m not in this alone, and yeah imposter syndrome is something that can creep in at all stages of life. I say just go for it. The worst you’re gonna hear it no. And as much as I hate rejection, it’s still better then the feeling of ‘what if’ x
As a medica training instructor of many years experience who is no transitioning into Project management, I must ask why you are not a lecturer or teacher? your materiel and presentation is excellent. I am learning such a lot from you and you have greatly assisted my transition to formal project management. Thank You (66 and still learning)
😅😅 thank you for the kindness. Tbh I have started to consider teaching but not now. Maybe later on in life :) it’s never too late for a change, so love it. I wish you the very best !
I used to have the biggest imposter syndrome and always overcompensated by trying to do way beyond my responsibilities. I am in a much better place now. Thanks so much for sharing.
Struggling with Imposter Syndrome right now! I've been working as a PM for about a year and a half and I've just landed a new role as a Software Project Manager. I come from a marketing and business background not tech so it is been hard to accept that I belong especially knowing how hard I work.
Oh! so thats what it's called?!🧐 Thank you for sharing Ire. And so true - positive affirmations helps. I have been using them to cope with my insecurities since I moved to the UK.
I am really learning at lot from you.. I am also in the uk and I can relate to most of the stuff you were talking about.. Keep up the good work. Brilliant video!!
Thank you so much honey. This really means a lot🥰 especially cos you are from the Uk too. And your black and female. It’s a lot to deal with in the environment we are in, but we will come up on top x
Great video! I am moving into a project manager role and suffer a great deal with imposter syndrome. I will definitely use your tips moving forward. Thank you!!
Thanks sharing and being vulnerable! I can relate to this but it fades over time ! I started managing teams at 25 and over time I realized that people feed off the energy you put out!
Hey Folashade, thanks for the comment! And you are totally right. If the energy is good and positive they then do want to work with you and for the project more. It’s a big part of building trust within your team. And learning that also helps the imposter syndrome fade a lot!
This is a syndrome I like to have. You know why? I would have landed myself to have PM role/job before experiencing it. So, IS where are you. However, thank you for thinking about us. I guess it spotlights your ability to think ahead of the game. Thanks IRE of PM Galaxy.
😅 that’s an interesting way to think about it I guess. Defo thinking ahead for all of you, because you can easily get a job and then lose or quickly if you let imposter syndrome cripple you! Your time is coming soon 🙌🏾
