Epica is one of the best "symphonic Metal" Bands out there (in my opinion). They are extremly talented in using the contrust between harsh metal vocals, heavy guitars / drums, Simones angelic voice and classical vibes like choirs. If you are not feeling good with growls, you maybe won't find that many songs of them you like. But this ones are with very small growl-parts for example: - Sancta Terra (live from Retrospect) [no growls] - Universal Death Squad (OFFICIAL Video) [just a bit growls] - Storm the Sorrow (OFFICIAL Video) [just a bit growls] - Unchain Utopia (OMEGA ALIVE) [no growls] - Unleashed (OFFICIAL LIVE) [no growls] - Edge of the Blade (OFFICIAL Video) [just a bit growls] But i really would recommend an few of the heavier ones, this are masterpices: - Consign to Oblivion (live at Zenith) [with growls] - Kingdom of Heaven - Part I [with growls] - Kingdom of Heaven - Part III (OMEGA ALIVE) [with growls] - The Obsessive Devotion (OFFICIAL LIVE VIDEO) [with growls] - The Essence of Silence (OFFICIAL LIVE VIDEO) [with growls]] - Victims of Contingency (OMEGA ALIVE) [just a bit growls] And there is much more worth to discover... 🤘
Hi Sean, Epica are from The Netherlands (Dutch) they formed in 2002 and have made 8 incredible studio albums, Epica's catalogue of work is very eclectic, no two songs are alike, the variety in their music is huge, you would need to listen to 20 songs to get an idea of what they are about, their music ranges from the most beautiful ballads to cinematic vast landscapes of music and everything in between, I hope you decide to dig deeper into Epica you won't be dissapointed
Hello Sean! Welcome to the world of Epica! We are Epicans :) Yes, both Nightwish and Epica are symphonic metal, though Epica is on the heavier side of it. Epica is one of the biggest names in this sub-genre, besides Nightwish. The song you just reacted to is from their latest album Omega (2021). There's another video from their 'online concert' called Omega Alive. And yes, they used real choirs, adult and children choir. Any orchestral instruments you hear, were recorded with a real orchestra in Prague. The gorgeous female lead singer is Simone Simons. She is a classically trained soprano. The growling guy is Mark Jansen, the founder and mastermind of Epica. Simone was his GF when she joined the band. Other band members are: Coen Janssen (keyboards, he is also responsible for orchestral arrangements and choir) Ariën van Weesenbeek (drums, member since 2007) Isaac Delahaye (lead guitar, member since 2009) Rob van der Loo (bass guitar, member since 2012) 4 out of 6 band members have degree in music and, although Mark is the main composer, they all contribute to songwriting. That's why their music is so great and diverse. Song lyrics are written either by Mark or Simone. I think you might want to hear some of their more radio-friendly song first? I'll drop a few suggestions below, if YT don't delete them again.
Are you putting links? I think that RUclips has a thing that if they are two or more links they think its spam. I would suggest just copying and pasting the title as specific as possible and maybe how long the video is. Because videos like The Phantom Agony can get confusing between 2meter sessies and Retrospect. I've even seen one do the shortened music video.
EPICA - Storm The Sorrow (OFFICIAL VIDEO) EPICA - Never Enough (Dark) HQ HD 4K EPICA - Edge Of The Blade (OFFICIAL VIDEO) EPICA - Beyond The Matrix (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)
@@redfielduniverse No mate, I was just watching something else :) Honestly, I'm fed up with this primitive YT algorithm. It sometimes deletes my post even if there's no one single link.
@@cancelled_user I see, yeah, I think it's best to easy him in and not drop him right into CtO or KOH. Yes RUclips does delete for no reason. If they sense any hurtful word or potential hurtful word they'll delete it. But they only do it on the ones they think are rude and the others dont. They others can say you have no brain cells but as soon as you say their comment is du*b, RUclips thinks it the end of the world. Idk, RUclips has changed.
Epica is an amazing band one the best out there, you should check their Omega Alive (Kingdom of Heaven part 3, Unchain Utopia, Skeleton Key & Victims of Contigency) is a masterpiece great production, musicians, stages, sound, everything is on point . 😉👌🏻
Epica is the 2nd unbelievable Symphonic Metal Band next to Nightwish. Epica has a lot of Death and Black Metal influences. If you like the harsh stuff check out "Consign to Oblivion" live from Paris 😊. The difference between NW and Epica? NW is about harmonies (Floor & Marko), Epica is about contrast (Simone & Mark). NW has celtic and folk influences, Epica oriental, Death and Black Metal. They are quite heavy in a lot of their songs. 😂
The main difference between Epica and Nightwish are that Epica are way more heavy while Nightwish isnt. This isnt the best song to be introduced to Epica because Epica are much heavier and has influences from death, black, and progressive metal. Epica typically uses orchestras very well. Mark's growls arent for everyone but I love them. If the switching is the part that gets you a lot of Epica is going to be hard. But the thing is you cannot remove him because he is the leader and Epica works best with the beauty and the beast complex. Also Epica is the ultimate Symphonic Metal band because they actually stay metal and heavy for the most part whereas Nightwish is more and folk now.
it depends.... first song I ever heard from them was storm the sorrow...which is less heavy than this song lol and I immediately bought their discography (physical copies) have been a huge fan since, I enjoy the ballads, the heavy, the strange, instrumentals, etc. good music is good music
@@deminybs Yes but Epica is heavier. My point was to show the differences but I guess I didn't do the best job. Also Storm the Sorrow doesn't have as many changes and is more mainstream while The Skeleton Key has more especially more harsh vocals dispersed rather than in one area like for example Edge of the Blade or Beyond Belief. But yes, I've heard all Epica albums but I'm working on collecting all the albums. TPA, CtO, DYU are harder to find for some reason. I'm also gonna buy Omega when I can because I accidently bought Omega Alive by itself.
@Redfield Universe we're on the same page, and damn even albums are hard to get these days.... rip lol I even bought their 2 meter sessies "we will take you with us" DVD/booklet thing, retrospect DVD, and the classical conspiracy CD with minimal issues. I've had the best luck with them but moral of the story yes Epica>nightwish 😋

FYI, Metallica in the 80s were definitely metal (thrash metal to be exact) not hard rock. Hard Rock is stuff like AC/DC, Kiss, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Def Leppard, Whitesnake, Alice Cooper, etc. and more recently, Ghost. Apart from the difference in the music itself, you never get growling in hard rock, only voice with distortion.

It's hard to say Epica is not metal after listening to just one song. They range from what I can only describe as folk music and Disney Princess stuff (I love it) to Thrash, Black and Death metal. So... you've got to hear more. Poor you. :)
