I have the chronograph version of this watch, it was gifted to me by my dad back in 2016. There was a time when i absolutely hated it and thought about selling it every single day but i kept it because it was the most expensive gift that i have ever received. Then suddenly one fine day i started loving it, i don’t know what happened, but i was absolutely stunned with a changed perspective of how unique this watch actually is and how as a watch lover this watch would increase the charm of my collection. I own tissot , a couple casios and am planning to buy a cartier santos in the near future but i feel this will be my favourite watch ever. Sometimes i just laugh over the fact that how could i hate this piece of art with such rich history.
Rado Diastar used to be (and to some extent still is) a symbol of wealth in india in 80s 90s through 2000s Tourists from india coming to Singapore usually has this model on their purchase list … I’m also a proud owner of this green dial model bought in Jan end 2023 and love wearing it
I’ve been Rocking a Rado Diastar Original Gold Jubilee for 20 years now as a daily wear, My Dad bought it on holiday Qatar 🇶🇦 1991, Sadly RIP 2004, Since dad passed away I’ve been wearing it & loving it, Serviced it twice changed 3 chains all original, Looks new 30 years on serious unbelievable. It’s not my only watch it’s my most worn , Ps I wore my Dads Rado on my wedding, my son hopefully will wear it on his wedding too
The original is one of those timeless beauties. 35 mm specifically. First production model came in 1961 and has remained unchanged till now. The dimensions, material, features essentialy the same even today & Rado says it will remain unchanged for at least another 100 years. It's this timelessness of this piece that appeal to me so much. And ofcouse it's breathtakingly beautiful as well. I own gold model with Champagne dial.
It's not a watch that i like at first glance but it has slowly grow into me, seriously considering purchase one, especially the 60th anniversary edition.
Thank you Teddy for the informative video. I have always been curious about Rado. Here in Malaysia, I observe that the brand is mainly popular amongst the baby boomers generation and foreign workers from South Asia ie. India, Pakistan & Bangladesh, fairly alien to the younger citizens. Now I know the reasons why. Keep up the good work!
Here I am 10 months latter after the release of this video (according to RUclips) rewatching this video cause the day of my wedding my aunt give me my Grand Fathers watch as a wedding present. Which happens to be a Rado DiaStar he bought in 1977
I have the RADO Diastar as a dress watch ⌚ in silver and black dial with diamonds and it's with me for 20 years without any issues. It's very reliable and fashionable.
This brand is for those who have no insecurity issues, tattoos, leased hypercars or lonely nights. Rado is a brand for those with natural class and very comfortable in their own shell.
I am from India, and RADO is the only big luxury brand that has an Indian city on its world timer. Surprisingly no other brands do. They Dhaka and Karachi, but no Mumbai/Bangalore which is strange considering how vast India is in terms of economy and culture when compared to Bangladesh and Pakistan.
I have one Rado Diastar 35 mm from the year 1975 with blue mineral face (Goldstone), have the caliber Rado 309 (ETA 2789) in fantastic condition. It's my daily beater. Amazing watch with a unique and different Style. Love it 😍😍😍😍😍
"Crazy-looking" = gorgeous. I really appreciate that you mention trying it on a NATO. I would, admittedly, have difficulty without any kind of indices. Thanks as always, Teddy.
I have a old Diastar in Yellow . It has diamond hour markers . It was given a gift to my grand father in his first visit to Pakistan in the 1980s by his brother . Still the watch does not have a single scratch on it. But yes the starp is completely worn out. It still works absolutely fine and has not been serviced ever in almost 40 years
I’ve always liked the looks of the Diastar , I can recall being a teenager and seeing the Diastar advertised in some magazines I read and wanting one. It’s still unique timepiece that looks like nothing else out there. It’s not super expensive especially considering the brand heritage but in my opinion carries itself well. The fact that you either love it or hate is what makes it good.
The gold plated diastar was one the most conterfieted model in India. One of the most recognized premimum brand. The chosen one for custom 22K solid gold bracelets. Such an icon and aspriatinal model. Common sight in 3rd party service centers to boast their skill.
Fun Fact I live in Puerto Rico and this watch is usually worn by older people and usually they tend to like Salsa (music genre), they have a white buttoned shirt (Guayabera), kaki’s or chino pants and some Oxford, but most importantly of all, the fedora.
I'm from India and lot of people here love Rado. I really don't get them but the watch is pretty cool and after watching your video I'm starting to like it now.
I recently bought the Skeleton version, it's absolutely stunning and unique. However, that bracelet needs work, these weird push pins make it very difficult to size it.
I recently bought the blue dial version. I liked the marketing pictures, but I wasn't sure on the first look, but was still interested. Tried it on for the second look and it was an instant yes. It looks great, light, extremely comfortable and slips under a sleave really well. Just love it. I like how it sparkles in the light, especially the faceted crystal. Thanks for posting this review. Rado and especially these tend to be overlooked, but I am so tired of the steel bracelet dive style watches / tool / field watches that everyone wears. These aren't for everyone, perhaps, but if they click for you, they are great. :)
The rado model was actually popular in middle east and from there it propagated to subcontinent india pakistan and bangladesh. It is still symbol of wealth after roled here
It's actually pretty versatile, especially with sleeves, jackets, jumpers, etc. Slips under a sleeve easily. The trick is the size, where its small like a dress watch. It's the opposite of the big 43-44 dive watch styles that people wear for all occasions and clothes these days. It's probably not the best shorts and t-shirt watch though. Too dressy.
Nice video. Like always. Hey guys, maybe a bit off topic, I only wanna share the feelilng, they just called me from watch store that my ordered Golden Horse is delivered. 7 weeks waiting and now it s here. Hope i ll like them at least as on pictures, never seen alive. Do You prefer buying watches in classic shop or online? I wanted to enjoy the moment of the sale in person, not through the e-shop. Btw my name is Rado. Like always.
The movement cannot be ETA C07.611. That is a "date only" movement. It must be C07.621, which is a "day-date" movement. By the way, it's what Tissot and Certina call a Powermatic 80 movement.
How peculiar, been looking at vintage Rado watches and The Balboa model used to be the Rado model with the faceted crystal and similarly tungsten case as the Diastar.
Love the design of the case and bracelet but you can’t really tell the time accurately at all that glass distortion of the hands and lack of indices kills it for me as a time piece it’s a retro/contemporary piece of bracelet jewellery for sure.
Am I the only one who thinks they should lose the seconds hand? It would be cleaner. Also, the seconds hand seems kinda useless without the maters. (I guess you can be accurate if you want to time something in 15 seconds intervals.)
If you’re under 50 it would be really hard to pull this off. I thinks this 90’s look is for people who were around their 20’s or early 30’s in the 90’s
Always shown on a 6.5” wrist, what about 7.5”? Too small I bet. Swatch Group continues to disappoint with cheapness in movements. No good reason not to get proper 4 Hz beat rate this high in the SG hierarchy and at this price (for a basic 3-hander).

Beautiful watch

Not just in India also in Pakistan

My dad's first swiss watch was a 2 tone original bought back in the early 90s, he wore it daily and it still looks brand new.
You finally got a Diastar on the channel. Thanks a lot.

Big fan of Rado, my grandfather used to wear his Rado watch, still really big in the middle east as well.

They do offer some sneaky charm.
What about DiaStar Original Skeleton? *_That's_* the watch to do a video on! Just *beautiful* !

I love this model! It’s my favorite Rado by far. And I think reasonably priced for what you get.

Mine is from 1972 and the watch itself looks like new ! Only bracelet is showing its age
In the middle east specifically saudi it's considered as a luxury watch in the middle class of people 👍 my father and grandfather owned one
Love it! Not a Rado fan, but this -in green- is on my wish list!

Evergreen design by Rado.
Just got mine in green, looks great on my wrist, its a beautiful time piece.

Love the design. Just ordered my first Rado: a white ceramic Dia Star quartz pre-owned. I do like a lot of their models. Thanks for the take Teddy!
I'm from India and lot of people here love Rado. I really don't get them but the watch is pretty cool and after watching your video I'm starting to like it now.
This model is very comfortable to wear. I have the XL and love it
Always loved the watch.
This watch is really cool. I would get one if I hadn't just gotten a PSR. I might have to start a three watch 60s-70s collection 😊
I recently bought the Skeleton version, it's absolutely stunning and unique. However, that bracelet needs work, these weird push pins make it very difficult to size it.
Rado is huge in India.
I like this watch. It is different and less conservative. Quite bold design and effort❤️🙏

Absolutely agree. It's nice to have some unique designs on the market, especially when they are well executed like the DiaStar.

On my shopping list
I have a Rado Diastar from 1971👍
During my school age, I only knew Rado. Later, Rolex and Omega for luxury Swiss watches not including Japanese watches such as Seiko and Citizens.
I own the gold version diastar and I love a ton.
I love that design !!! By the way. I,ve seen these Rado's a lot on wrists in Thailand. Seems Rado has a lot of fans in Asia.
In india back in the 70s/80s/90s only swiss watch brand we know are rolex and Rado! Diastar being the most favorite one
I would definitely have a hard time to set the exact time:)
Set on the hour, qtr past, half past, etc. That's the easist and most accurate way.....
This is my first lux watch
How do you wind a Rado watch
A fine watch very vintage appearance Iove green dial and with affordable price love it ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Totally agree!
I need service center info
for this watch around the Michigan area
I wanna look away, but I can't...it's interesting.
I like it. It's unique, but in some ways, it has a conservative look.
I'm trying to thin out the collection but oh my..
I was thinking you would be a perfect Peter Parker
Another cool watch for my wrist
I've always loved this shape but I don't think it's easy to pull off

The only part of this design I can't deal with is the lack of hr/min markers.
Hi, Teddy. You might like to know that RADO means “I scratch” in Latin and MIDO means “I measure”. VOLVO means “I rotate”. Enjoy your watches !

Yes, it's a version of the ETA Powermatic 80 movement, just like the Hamilton H10. The Rado version has all metal components.

wow, that one is exceptionally nice....the only thing with rado is they sell their watches very overpriced.....
Dressy Seiko Turtle.
The DiaStar came before the turtle.
Rado has a lot of nice watches. This is not one of them.
This is rado's most iconic and most sold model ever!
Definitely the ugliest watch ever.
Ugly looking watch
