    great video for a gateway into some projects i haven't heard before! and of course the mini mansions love is great, "the great pretenders" is honestly one of my favorite albums that is just all around fun.

    Mini Mansions is painfully underrated... Jon Theodore did play the drums with them during the tour for their last album, so Mikey wasn't still flip-flopping between guitar and drums...
    Even their b-sides were phenomenal.

      Their b-sides were amazing! Would love to have an official collected release of them. (Aside from Flashbacks)

      Death is a Girl is such a great pop song (alt-pop?). Mini Mansions reminds me of how great pop used to actually be. 🎉

    JON THEODORE & ZACH made an album together? Why was I not informed??? 😅 Otherwise, I'm almost totally with you. I'll take Dead Weather over Mini Mansions b/c 1) Allison Mosshart IS rock & roll, 2) the Dean/Jack White fusion hits hard af in an utterly unique way. I love Mikey Shoes's singing voice so much; I just don't... feel the style of music Mini Mansions plays as much as I do other styles.
    Brilliant as always! 💜🔥

    Where would you slot Mondo Generator in if you had to?

    • @doodlereview
      @doodlereview  5 месяцев назад +1

      it's a tough one...I think they are a really cool project, but very inconsistent. Nick is a workhorse though, I love how active he is. At a push I'd probably put it somewhere between Sweethead and Desert Sessions. I might do a Part 2 of this video at some point, expanding it to include the projects of members from different line-ups! I have to address a few gaps in my knowledge first though...What about you? What's your favourite Mondo record?

    • @Andy-lz7kc
      @Andy-lz7kc 5 месяцев назад

      @@doodlereview yeh their output is inconsistent. My fave has changed over the years, initially it was drug problem, which apparently has a few tracks that were earmarked for Songs for the Deaf. Then I changed to Dead Planet. Then I changed to Fuck It but now I think the new one. It’s a short blast of angry desert punk that seems to satisfy.
      I’ve never really gotten on with Hell Comes to your Heart or Shooters Bible and I find the first one average.

    • @Andy-lz7kc
      @Andy-lz7kc 5 месяцев назад

      @@doodlereview It’s interesting reading about that era and the amount of songs Mondo and Queens had in the bag, Nick has gone on record and said that Songs for the Deaf almost had Open Up and Bleed for Me in the place of The Sky is Fallin.
      Some songs earmarked for the follow up to Songs for the Deaf (which we know became Lullabies) were:
      Paper Thin
      So High, So Low
      Sonic Slow Motion Trails (wanted Lanegan for vox)
      I guess that got scrapped when Nick was no longer part of Queens.

      Wait…I’m confused - am I too much of a fan for recommending a B-Side ? Or not enough of a fan for getting the song title wrong? 😂 Vultures are rad btw just wanted to give props to some slightly less well acknowledged projects (especially as TCV only have 1 record). Thanks very much for watching ! 🙏🤘

    Gone Is Gone would have been so much better if the vocals didn't sound like the microphone was in a different room than the singer.

    • @doodlereview
      @doodlereview  6 месяцев назад

      Haha yes I hear you on that. I think that seems to be a bit of a Troy Sanders trademark, they will sometimes apply that same production to his vocals in Mastodon too. Think they might overdo it sometimes…

      Dwarves are sick! They have a new record I’m keen to listen to. They don’t qualify for 2 reasons though, 1: am only ranking the projects of current Queens line-up 2: not sure if Nick is a founding member of Dwarves? If he is they certainly do a lot without him in the band. Either way, I plan to get some Dwarves coverage in at some point. Keep the faith, old boy

      1.) Even if he did include dwarves, it shouldn't be anywhere near the top of the list.
