Over 190 different gangs are engaged in battles across London's poorest areas. And the gang members are getting increasingly younger. Why is a highly developed country losing control of its youth?
"They stabbed me here, here, and here", says Patrick, showing off the scars he got whilst trying to help a friend in Peckham. Growing up in a gangland rap culture and blaming a lack of development and employment opportunities, London youngsters are turning to a life of violence and drugs. "They just pull you in. It is very seductive", explains former gang member Shaun. Mayor Ken Livingstone has granted over £1million for youth projects to help inspire teenagers but the money is taking a long time to filter through. In the meantime, scared parents keep their children locked inside and the police struggle to limit access to weapons and fight the ever-growing teenage body count.

Yes, but we survived before slavery, and colonialism. Mass immigration began in 1948 after a Socialist gov't gave away over 700 million passports. So blacks have only been here since then. The British people would have survived without slavery, and retained their identity. England was not called as such, but the people have been here for thousands of years. World power is unimportant when compared with the tragedy of slavery, colonialism and immigration.

In the final year before any ethnic breakdowns were stopped there were 175,000 mobile phone assaults and 155,000 victims were white females. The perpetrators in 157,000 cases ? As a white person with an extensive Caribbean immigrant step-family both in the UK and North America, I can confirm that you, Margaret Norvell, are a complete moron. There is a spectrum of capability in my step-family, as there is in any family or community. The women tend to do better, they are all in full-time employment and several of them have post-graduate qualifications and work in finance or middle management - but this is typical of British women as a whole. Some of the men steadily knuckle down to provide for their kids but others struggle, drift from job to job and one or two have become despondent drunks. But that, again, is typical of men as a whole. And, like most people, if they are taken out of sink school areas then their behaviour and grades dramatically improve, as has been the case for two primary school age girls who were recently moved from Wood Green in London to leafy Surrey. Ten years later, the only thing that changed less police, reduced funding for the youth, combined with a huge increase of "immigrants" legal and otherwise. Sadiq Khan keeps on going on about more police numbers, others talk about longer sentences, when this documentary proves that the "hard hand" of the police changes nothing. The rap music as certainly had it's role to play in it, plus the financial aspect of 'easy come, easy go'. When I was growing up we would do any job to have some pocket money of our own, and we would save up for weeks to be able to afford what we would like. The American culture of "I want", as certainly impacted upon the UK, although the fact that the black community were pushed back and the Islamic community were elevated is clear for discerning people to see.

I agree discipline definitely starts at home (hence Indian, Nigerian and Chinese kids often succeeding)... but there is also not enough police authority in the streets... these kids are often forced to join gangs because they don't think anyone can protect them if they refuse.

Someone told me that the most deprived areas in London are the black Jamaican areas and that for some reason most of those kids don't have a dad, at least one who takes care of them. I wonder if that is true and if it is, why those families are so broken and why some women have children without having money and a reliable man to help. As I said, this is not what I think, it is something that was reported to me by someone who works in the social services. Other communities , like asian or general European have a much better situation because families are much stronger and kids are not abandoned and undereducated. Statistically speaking, I once read an article saying that the worst performing student in London are black male from the Caribbean islands. Again, this person I talked to, believes it all begins with the fact that they don't have a real family and have not a mature male figure. If that is true, it would be interesting to understand why those dads don't want to have a normal caring family. There must be a reason.
I agree with that but its interesting that the black people that were in the uk for the longest, the jamaicans and carribeans who were here for afew generations are the worst performing. Many first generation africans are doing amazing such as nigerians who are some of the top performers in education. Black people are all grouped together which is not fair, I think jamaicans have had it the toughest with consistently poor areas, instituional racism such as prison sentences, being in prison for drugs whilst white people and black people have been proven to use it at similar rates, having businesses torn down and detryoed for example, and many parents locked up. First generation africans have not had to deal with the same issues, they have been able to settle easier and the parents focus more on education. Just my thoughts

For example West Africans often seem to succeed similarly to Indians, meanwhile Somalis seem to have an even worse record than Caribbean communities. But something we often forget is working class white English neighbourhoods are often as deprived as black Jamaican ones. And I remember when news reporters were interviewing British people about Brexit, many white Jamaicans were as anti-immigrant as the white English interviewed.

Really depends on type of immigration, though. For example all the EU immigrants who came in the 2000s like Poles and Lithuanians will easily assimilate within a generation or two. Other communities like Somalis I think will struggle the hardest to assimilate because they still devoutly follow very different cultural attitudes and a hostility to multiculturalism itself.

They already have regular CCTV the they could pull the same stunt with that.
Regular CCTV is static and has blind spots. There is no guarantee it is actually being watched live by a human at any given moment. You're on about something that follows people around and covers any possible angle, letting criminals know that if it is moving above them it has 100% of the operator's attention.
True but I can't see the Met Police passing up the chance if it's viable costwise and the drones may get smaller and smaller costwise and have night vision cameras. If they get small enough and quiet enough at night, they may be able to sneak up on people and film crimes.
