Dedede decided to make a space for Meta Knight to store his special snacks after Meta Knight caught him stealing them when he didn't know they were his.
Unfortunately for Meta Knight, Dedede decided he was gonna give him the extra space only so he could sneak some of the best sweets since Meta Knight has refined taste.
This, combined with an ungodly lack of sleep worsened by the sun and moon fighting is what caused Meta Knight to try and take over Dreamland. :/
