    ohh yes I played this game once, found it so diferent to any others board games, at the time all a knew was monopoly or risk. indeed this game is really fun.

      It's a strange game - any idea of tactics or strategy goes out the window, and you just have to lean into the theme. Really good fun, when you want to hang out with friends and don't want to think too hard about what you are doing. Everyone I have introduced this to has really liked it.

    I prefer the darker look of earlier editions to be honest. Not trying to diss your opinions, just wanted to throw that out there. Though I prefer the production quality of this version. Love the videos!

      Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. The tiles are much brighter in this edition, which I think works well for the overall goofiness of the game, but I am sure lots of people prefer the more muted, somber tones of earlier editions.

    I'm not sure how this compares to the older editions of it, but it definitely sounds like fun in the current iteration. I am assuming you have played older editions, and I am curious if you have a preference for a particular edition? In any case, you always have such great content on your channel. Keep up the Great work! Thank you!

      Thanks for the kind words. I don't have a lot of experience with earlier editions of the game, as I never owned them, but from what I know this appears to be the "cleanest" edition. It's a tight system with little clutter. All the art and miniatures are new, but the main difference is the way the haunts are generated. By picking a scenario card, and then having the haunt linked to both the scenario card AND the omen that triggered it, you get more of a sense of story - even if those stories are sometimes ridiculous.
      Apparently the haunts are all new for third edition, and I don't know how they compare to the haunts from previous editions. I should imagine some people will have a preference for a particular set. Of course, in all sets, there will be some that are great, and some that are clunkers, but I have generally enjoyed every haunt I have played so far.

    I always view this game as more of a roleplaying experience rather than an actual board game. Mechanically it can get pretty janky, but if everyone invests into the theme it can be a riot.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  29 дней назад +1

      You definitely have to lean into the theme and not worry about it. It's another one of those games like DungeonQuest where you don't really play to win, you just play to see what story develops.

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring yeah. I ended up Grief-Stricken early on two games in a row. Third game we all agreed to give me an amnesty against getting Grief-Stricken in the first three turns of the game. Guess what happened to me in turn four?

      How are you enjoying the Scooby Doo version? I'd love to get that one as I understand all the haunts are new and based on classic episodes.

    • @RunWilburRun

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Me and my kids love it. It's much more streamlined with the rules set and easier with the handling of the haunts. This also makes it a good introduction for those new to board games. The haunts being based on the classic episodes is the best part, as after the haunts I pull up the episodes for my kids to watch!

    Kinda unrelated I know, but wanted to ask any chance of you making it out to Gen Con this year or in the future? It'd be great to have like a meet and greet or something. Anyway, great content. I'm more of a fan of the HQ stuff, but since I'm already seeing notices of Delthrak being shipped early, I'm sure we'll have more of that soon!

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring

      As I'm based in the UK, Gen Con is a bit too much of a trek. I did do the UK Games Expo this year, though.
      There is more HeroQuest coming - I also have some features coming up for older HeroQuest stuff - but I have lots of other content in the queue for a wide range of other games.

    I own 2e plus Witches Wake. The game can be incredibly uneven. Some play sessions can be super boring and anti-climatic, while others can be some of the greatest gaming experiences ever.
    You never know what you're going to get.

      Exactly. The nature of the game is you never know what you are going to get and sometimes everything will line up brilliantly while other times it can end a bit abruptly or drag out. You just have to roll with it.

    Wow those mini bases for the hero's are a bit thick. wounder why they made the bases so thick

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  29 дней назад +1

      The bases have removable rubber rings on them. The rings are a good quality rubber and add quite a bit of bulk to the bases. I posted a picture on my Instagram (link in video description) to show the difference with and without the rings attached, if you are interested.

    Do you need this if you have mansions of madness?

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  29 дней назад

      They are very different games, really. In this one you randomly generate a house and have random encounters in it, collecting random objects, and then eventually you discover what the haunt is and will usually end up fighting against a traitor. Mansions is much more scripted, with fixed maps and items that progress a narrative, more intricate mechanisms, and a dedicated opponent - player or app.
      I had the first edition of Mansions of Madness but eventually got rid of it. I said at the time it was just too cumbersome and would benefit from an app. Shortly after that the second edition with the app came out, but I had no desire to go back and try it again.
      Ultimately, I see Betrayal being much lighter, more accessible, and sillier.
